1.
I've heard other people question their reliability. However I know several people who heavily gig their MAG's and have no issues what so ever, my EB also hasn't given my any issues.
my mag is fine, is run quite high and has no complaints, i'm happy
2.
Wonder Stuff - Rob "Bass Thing" Jones & Paul Clifford
+1 on them 2 but prefered Paul. anyhoo my fav that i always seem to return too is Faith no More, bassist is Billy Gould very talented and they kinda started that alt rock stuff way back but thta wasn't all they played such a mix of styles it shouldn't work but so does.
3. yeah that trace does look a bargain, just to give you some iea of volume i play in a 60's70's80's rock cover band with 2 guitarists both running about 120watts and a pretty loud drummer adn i'm using the mag 210 combo, (worth a look i might add) and even without the extension cab so it's running around 200watts it's plenty loud enough even without going through the PA i a fairly large hall. i'm only geussing but i would imagine 300watts to be kinda the range you need to look at as 200 is enough for me and you are saying you're lot aint too loud. but like everyone else has said go and try them, you won't get to test the loudness in a band situation in the shop but if you like the sound and it's got the head room you should be fine.
4. sorry to jump in here, but appart from looking a little odd would i get better response from my mag 2x10 combo by sticking it on its side?
5. opened up my mag combo last night (just took the handle off the side and had a look, will post some pics later if you are interested. what worried me was that the drivers just say they are 100 watts and arew 16 ohms each (2x10) so are they ok handling the 200 or so watts that the amp chucks out at 8ohms and the 307watts when you add another cab? i would have thought the rating would need to be 200watts per driver or do the 2 drivers add up to 200watts? i'm a numpty in this area.
6. no other baby by wings, it's just durge, odd really as sir paul could really do better with that.
7. cool i didn't realise he was in gorillaz, wou;d explain that style of bass though. he really made me want to get a status. sensless were ace, john peel really liked them, shame they never really got anywhere but their music was cool, miles hunt was also in that video i posted earlier, i was also a big fan of the wondwer stuff's second bassist can't remember his name right now.
8. hmm, soo glad i got rid of mine a while ago, no i didn't line em up an shoot em, they now reside in the pleasant surrounding at my folks house. though i had to stop the wife and kids bringing the rabbits in the house cos they kept chewing everything, chair legs, clothes you name it and i can only imagine the damage they would do to my bass and amp, oh the horrors...
9. i would be interested to know the specs of the speakers in the ashdown stuff, particularly the mag stuff. i might be wrong but i heard or read somewhere that the blueline stuff was jensen, that may have just been a loose link cos jensen did make blue speakers at one point (maybe still do). but the original speakers in the ashdown stuff were standard black. oh and is it right that the abm bluelines are different to the mag blues? the center dome certainly looks bigger on the abms.
10. mine's on a stand in the living room (all 1 of them) though it does explain why it keeps going out of tune what with having three kids an all.
11.
I'm another big fan of Good Times. Another one that jumped out and clubbed me over the head first time I heard it was RHCP's Higher ground.
i'll see your higher ground and raise you with Naked in the rain. oh just remembered some old indie stuff, anyone remember a band called Sensless things? they had some really good bass lines in there, Bassist was Morgan Nicholls, most notable songs were Got it at the delmar and It's Cool to hang out with your Ex. couldn't find them on youtube but found this which has quite a cool line too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3YUFhjR3wM a few nice cameos in there most notable is John Peel.
12.
I don't know about you guys but I tend to play differently on different basses.
i know what you mean, when i used to have the ray i played back over the pickup, but now with my ibanez i play over the neck pickup but do move around more on this bass because of the range of tones i can get, with the ray it was really used just as the ray sound.
13.
Nope - pretty sure you're in a minority of one there! "Basses" would be my guess as far as innovations go, I'd like to be able to recall preprogrammed preamp settings, though I'm sure someone's though of that already.
seems to go down the route of alan partridge's term "lexi" (more than one lexus) is that an association we want to make?
14. the ones that i used to like (maybe theyve been replaced by the precision special) were the Jazz Bass Special with the matching headstock, same pickup layout jazz neck , did they have a slightly smaller P body?
15. still gutted they split up and that was nearly 10 years ago
16. sell the lyte and if you need more more money then sell the schecter too. what to get from there, well you could go for a ray, or a precision special for that active sound,. the choice as they say is yours.
17.
I'm sorry but I don't understand the idea that playing covers means you have to carry several basses around. Is this to get the "correct" sound of the original record? I have played in original and cover bands for many years and as it's me playing they get "my" bass sound, currently a Lakland 55-94, trying to sound like me. To date I have never been asked to sound like someone else.
i actually agree,i play in a covers band and i don't see it as necessary to get the exact same sound as the original, i do however try and get somewhere close but with my own sound on it, but also i can't afford any more than 1 bass so thats what i have to use so be it. if people have expected to see an exact copy of the original band then they should go and see them, tribute acts then yeah you need to replicate it but in a covers band you could be playing 30 different bands songs so then theres 30 different sounds, frightening.
18. my favourite to play at the mo is Keep on running also travelling without moving - jamiroquai crazy little thing called love - queen won't be fooled again - the who
19. we currently use the hall at the back of a CIU club, it may be worth having a scout around these places as during the week at evening they tend to be fairly quiet and may be useful. ours has a pretty big hall with a stage not all will have that but you may get lucky.
20. or these they have 1 instock, not sure what colour though £435 http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product~name~F...ood~ID~3944.asp
21. yep can't go far wrong with them, gutted i had to sell mine and if i had the cash would deffinately buy another one.
22. Andrew Stewardson - mock turtles, played some really melodic and groovy lines, i only every had their album Two Sides but great stuff. just wiki'd the turtles to find out the bassists name and also found out that the singer is steve coogans older brother.
23. A jazz, never really liked the P sound, though i do like the P bass special, i beleive my first bass was a copy of those (god i hope it wasn't actually one of those, i knew nothing back then) which i then sold to get a stingray 4. so out of the jazz and the SR i think it would be the ray but i would love a ray with a jazz neck on it, now that would be some bass.
24. ok here's another tab to the awakening http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/l/les_...g_ver2_btab.htm this was the one i was looking for, pretty much spot on really struggle with all those hammerons and pulloffs
