1. four string fore skin i'll get me coat
2. its the kind of song i'd love to play, in fact most of RATM makes my hairs stand on end. just can't see some of my band doing it. though i'd love to do take the power back too.
3. hopefully they will fix the problem, can't think of anything else in the chain of things that would cause it to make anoise like that. theres nothing loose inside the cab so it logically points to the coils, i had a set of car speakers that did that, kinda of dropped off line and made a scratchy noise but you could hear them scratching when you moved the cone.
4. theres also the gamma 10 which has a wider frequency, if thats any good though i know not. its also in a 16ohm. wonder wether they are better than what comes in the ashdown mag stuff and wether they would change the tone alot? merton i would have thought if the coils were having problems then you would hear a scratching noise from the driver when you move the cone, maybe you need to move the cone more than you are to reach the problem point.
5.
Tony For your own health, I'd avoid reading ANYTHING on this Forum that has Ashdown in the Title!!
i'll second that, seems every time it mentioned the baseball bats come out. love mine though and no trouble
6. guess i like marmite and wool then
7. dood sweeeet! wasn't sure when i first saw the gold hardware but that is one nice bass. wonder what the east pre sounds like on that.
8. i've found other brands woolier than ashdown, though to be fair i haven't tried the ABM's and their tone is supposedly less bright than the MAG's. i love mine and yeah i can get muddy if i want but i can also get harsh too (and the tone i like which is in between). can't be that bad cos everytime (well nearly) i see a band on TV they are using ashdowns. good job i like marmite
9. Gear Aquisition Syndrome, in other words stuff you have seen that you really want to buy, you'll soon know what it is.
10. elom, i am kinda in exactly the same position aas you, i only came back to it around this time last year, maybe a month or two earlier after an 8 year break, joined a band straight away borrowed a bass and amp for a while then bought one for myself. and yeah it just felt right. just had one gig got another next weekend then we have a bit of a break so new stuff to do. feels good dunnit!
11. we all liked this one but decided taste should make us choose another Shaven Smooch made us smile
12. there is always going to be a certain amount of natural talent and dexterity that these top players have always had and have then built on. us mere mortals have to practice hard to get to a certain standard and as long as that standard fit into what you play then thats good. I used to play alot when i was at uni but not in a band and used to play around 3 hrs a day playing along to my favourite bands but always got stuck on certain songs. when i came back and started playing in a band i found some of those early songs i struggled with i can now play but i practice alot less so no idea why that works. the terminal velocity thing is probably true for me to a certain extent but i suppose if i put the time in anything would be possible but the terminal velocity is caused by outside things stopping me from practicing in fact i cant rememebr the last time i actually made time t practice at home and only play at rehersals once a week so i've hit a flat spot.
13.
Man thats bad. Thats not even half our possible set list and I cant remember any more
wouldn't worry about it, as long as you can remember how to play them, i forget the song names all the time
14. sounds like he needs a boost of confidence and recent things are obviously not helping the situation. our guitarist can be a right nightmare to get to play certain songs cos he thinks he can't do it even though we know he can. but us telling him he can do it just seems to make him dig his heels in. i think in this kind of situation it needs to come from someone outside the band but can be recognised as really knowing what they are talking about. that would put some force behind the comment. maybe a day in a recording studio might help as he can then here exactly what he is doing. or maybe its a case of riding it out for a while till he gets his mojo back.
15.
+1 for that. If you don't like a band you do what my mate Paul did - stand at the front and shout "You're s*it". Now, to put this in context, he had been, until 5 minutes earlier, the guitarist in said band. He had however got so pi**ed off with the singer during a gig that he left his axe - plus screaming feedback - against his amp, walked off stage, went to the bar, got a pint, walked back through the crowd to the front and hurled abuse at the singer. Not great team spirit I'll admit, but proper rock and roll! Chris
there have been a few times i have felt like doing that, though i find trying to get feed back through my amp a little tricky
16. erm gonna try and remember these and they may not be quite in order. Set 1 Born to be wild Proud Mary Bad moon Rising You really got me All day and all of the night Shakin all over Gimmie Some Lovin No Other Baby Wishing well Come Together Crazy little thing called Love Set 2 Sweet Home Chicago Walking Get It On Mustang Sally Natural Born Boogie Sharp Dressed Man Whole lotta Rosie Hard to Handle Road to hell Keep on Running My Generation Wipeout Dizzy Miss Lizzy Johnny be Good think there might be 1 or 2 more i struggled to remember that lot oh and i didn't choose any of them so go easy and i wanna change quite a few of these so at least practice won't get so repetetive many edits cos i kept remembering things
17. higher ground, naked in the rain, sweet home chicago, the awakening (well the first half anyway), number of the beast, wishing well, small sections out of other songs too. i was in SC on oxford street a while back trying out amps and started playing Keep on Running and then an old guy near buy started singing it, thats the only time anyone has stopped to look /listen to what i was doing, there was a small group in the end. but i prefer booths for that reason. and alot of the time my mind tends to go completely blank the second i walk in a shop.
18. ibanez SR 505 is very good indeed, GAK have it for £389, seems the price has dropped since i bought my SR500
19. at practice last night our drummer said that someone had suggested we put a suggestion box by the door when we do a gig though i think that may just be asking for trouble
20. you could always go down this route, gets some ideas going http://www.bandnamemaker.com/
21. nice and why not and i thought that was played on bass anyway.
22. maybe i should get him to come see my band then he'd really have something to moan about, what a knob! i'd love to be in a band like that
23.
I used to always forget that the people who know the structure and parts of a song most is of course the band themselves. If you do a mistake most punters won't know at all, I think most gigging musicians have had an experience where they have got off stage cussing about how awful a set was then someone's come up and disagreed completely.
last gig that we had was exactly that, i came off from the ssecond set which is normally the one that goes well and had a right strop on, really pissed off, but everyone that came up to me said it was really good. guess you'll have good nights and bad ones but there usually seem to be more good than bad.
24. have a similar problem, moving when playing can lead to all sorts of mess ups for me, but then occasionally i'll find my foot tapping along in time but once i've noticed i have to stop it or all my concentration goes to the ground floor department, that said i can't dance and my wife will regularly tell me not too if i get a bit carried away (see" drunk") but moving when playing rarely happens. good job our drummer is a bloke or i'd have no chance keeping concentration. maybe thats why you can't do the feet thing.
25. we do mustang sally too, though be be honest i don't enjoy playing that one but it always seems to go down well
