An old friend of mine said this to me after he came to see us for the first time: "I only have 15 suggestions - but I wouldn't have any if you guys were crap". Don't know how that might help you but this discussion did bring that to mind.
we had a simlar thing at a recent gig "you guys were brilliant, just one suggestion loose the singer"
2.
You could always quietly find a replacement for the 'weak link', then tell the 'weak link' that the band are splitting up. A couple of weeks later you can then 'reform' with the new member....
hehe, slight problem is that the rythmn guitarist is the singers brother and as its the singer i think it could cause problems. to be honest the band is kind of a fun thing, well thats how it started out but between the lead drums and me we want to do a bit better. might just have to bite it and go down the new band route. though i feel a bit bad as they gave me the chance to start playing again in the first place. oh the humanity!
3. and what to do if the band has built up quite a bit of equipment?
4. like the title says how do you break the news, do you tell them, yourself, get a band mate to do it, bribe someone at a gig to let em down gently? is it easier to ditch a particular part of the band? singer, guitar drummer etc. whats your views, not like i need to know or anything oh quick edit or do you leave taking the parts of the band with you that you like and start fresh, or lump it and carry on?
5. a ba coversd band like others said at least its familiar. on another note how would you go about telling someone in the band you are in they are sh*te? (maybe i should start a post on this)
6. go for it, i was in the same position about a year ago except i hadn't picked up a bass in 8 years, i'm still in the same band, yeah bit nervy to start with but if they are an ok bunch then they should give you time to bed in. and yeah you'll learn so much playing in a band situation.
7. natural 2 band MM stingray, maple neck and fret board, black scratch plate and it had the old style bridge with mute pads loved it, classic stingray sound. think i had to sell it to get a washing machine or something like that for the house as we were broke. if i had the money i'd hunt another one down.
8. i'd be down there on friday to see exactly what she's up to, sounds dead shifty.
9.
As a man on a third marriage - albeit for 21 years this time, I speak from experience - to all those who are not married remember:- Once you're married IT'S YOUR FAULT. Is she drops a plate when washing up - it's because you didn't buy a dishwasher If she decides we go on holiday to the Dominican Republic and we all get food poisoning - it is because you didn't talk her out of it. If your luggage gets lost as well, it's because you picked a crap airline. (even though she picked the holiday). If son's room looks like a landfill - it's your fault If son get's a cob on because mother is on his case - it's your fault If it rains when the washing is out (like now) - it's your fault (even more if she gets wet bringing it in) If she has an accident in the car - it's because you washed the car and the sunshine reflecting off the bonnet dazzled her. They are a million more - but the principal is the same. Having said all that we almost never argue, but then I'm used to everything being my fault, so now I get selective deafness when she starts.
couldn't have put it better. also if she can't find her bank card/ make up/ contact lenses, it's your fault, even if you are not even in the house the make one could be blamed on cetera
10.
As several people have said, its all about compromise and negotiation.
whats that then?
11. to who? after reading al your replies i kinda feel like a lump of silly putty sorry gotta go and lick floor clean wit tongue
12.
BUT the truth is that they have all of the rest of the house to do whatever they want with! [edited]
actually that should read BUT the truth is that they have all of the rest of the house FOR YOU to do whatever they want with!
13.
As a married man you get one room in the house for your stuff (always the smallest room, and one that you have to do some DIY on to make usable). The wife will always complain about you getting this room (after she assigned it to you and you brought it up to spec) BUT the truth is that they have all of the rest of the house to do whatever they want with!
so thats why all my stuff is in the loft
14. not sure if i am of the majority or minority, but, i would consider myself to be massively under the thumb. i never have been a confrontational person and when i first met my wife it was the usual doiung things to get certain favors etc and then moved in etc and i think i carried it on too long to the point where after the wife, kids, father inlaw, cat, hamster, rabbits, shoes, i finally make it into the priority list. i think it is proabaly my fault and as such i don't buy anything much (i even sold my stingray to get some money for us years back), i have recently bought my ibby and finally 10months later got an amp but since then i've bought nowt. i have tried 'putting my foot down' but it doesn't work. i guess its what i am used to now. and i've given up trying btw i don't recommend anyone else doing it this way, waas ok in the early days now i'm just a doormat.
15. suprised you didn't launch said jack russell at her well at least you didn't all turn up on friday with your kit to find that one out.
16. they look like a prestige version of the SR range, yes they already do a prestige SR but these ones have what looks like the Bartolini MK1 pups and active electrics same as is on the standard mahogany SR's, so these will sound great and i'm sure those exotic woods will just add too the sound, very nice indeed, i'll just have to pretend my SR is one of them.
17. doesn't amtter wether i'm straight or smashed i'm still sh*te i think i have a very low self confidence and as such a few bevies to make the crowd (one man and his dog) less in focus does wonders for the confidences. i dont really have an edge to loose so thatsh ok. but in general i don't take any drink on stage and jusht have em lined up in time for the finish. but with the no smoking ban i'll probably drink less as i like to have a fag with me beer so it'll make a cheaper night. i'll stop rambling.
18. aww, that sucks. we had been told on several occasions of limiters being in place but they have fortunately never gone off and we aint exactly quiet. know what you mean about playing to a room of corpses, for some reason we get alot of people thre but it takes ages for anyone to actually get into it or they just stand or sit there and stare. which is odd cos at the end of the night we get people saying "that was fantastic" etc. so what to do to get them moving, i have no idea. the only time they did get moving was at our own gig that we set up, maybe we need to supply cans of red bull on the door. you could always take up fishing as that along with the equipment you can get would easily replace you bass GAS.
19. hmm, if you are lucky you might be able to find a ray for about that second hand, i picked mine up in manchester for 650 (years ago now) or possibly a sub as they have been discontinued so you might get a bargin.
20.
I have NEVER seen such spectacularly bad reviews and personal experiences: http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews...er/BTR2000/10/1 I'm sure you can get a used Korg for similar money if you're patient. Alex
wow, nearly bought one of these the other day, glad i didn't.
21. the ray looks lovely, always will have a soft spot for a ray, but i just dont get those bongos, sorry, they could have done a slightly differnt shape to the ray, like the color though, but then if it sounds the nuts who cares.
22. can't beleive no one has said Donald 'Duck' Dunn. epitomy of cool.
