1. seems you were very lucky indeed, i've nearly done the same thing a couple of times recently just caught myself in time though, and yeah broken cups are very sharp the missus dropped one in our kitchen and one of the bits flew off and embedded itself in my shin, nice. trying not to think about the injections, urgh! hope it fixes quick
2. just found this, the second one is pretty close http://www.ram.org/music/primus/tabs/awakening.btab.html the one that was one bassmasta was spot on but they have closed all that down now, boo
3. been listening to primus since frizzle fry, truly one of the greats, the thing that really gets me goat is that he wasn't a bass player in the first place but a drummer, but they had a drummer so they said why don't you play bass. luke i've got that tab somewhere so i'll have to dig it out, the first part is pretty simple it's the middle fast part that gets me everytime. still suprises me how 3 people can sound like so much more
4.
i saw those in their mailer - looks like it's been made exclusively for them
yeah, looks like a slightly lower power version of the mag 115
5. the drummer the lead and myself in the band we are in have thought about doing another band just cos even though we enjoy the stuff we currently do we would love to do some more funky stuff. not sure of the logistics of it but it sure would increase our gig rate (been together about 8 months now and only done 4 gigs, not enough)
6. just saw this on thomann http://www.thomann.de/gb/ashdown_t15_180s.htm looks like a halfway house between the electric blue and the mag range, plenty o volume and the di that you want and under 200 as it has 40% off, nice
7. ah i see what you want to do, i feel a fool (and she feels nice ) the 25watt one you have would be fine for that as you are only joining the 2 wires together to go in the connection, just make sure the solder you have has got a flux core and that should be all you need to do as the solder should just flow into the wire. i thought you wanted to solder the wire to the connectors in which case the 50 would have been better, i'm just waffling now so i'll ssshhh!. edit just to say sorry if i'm telling you to suck eggs.
8. i can't recommend playing in a band or just practicing with some friends enough, the learning curve gained by this is really astonishing i've found, in risk of repeating myself i used to play about 8 years ago and had been playing for about 6 years and then i stopped, i've only being playing since last september or thereabouts again but i've found from playing in a band i can now play stuff i really struggled with before it really helps your ear your timing , feel and above all confidence which makes tackling harder stuff that little bit easier. geuss i better go look up that bass website with all the scales on it.
9. mhuk, i think i'm kinda in the same boat as you, though i'm not having lessons either. i can play pretty much anything if i put my mind to it but i really really struggle to jam, i put this down to not knowing my scales, i understand the root fith third thing but thats no use without the scales. and i think i can groove once i have something set but it's the free bit i struggle with so is there any tips on learning the scales that aren't ultimately dull or is it just a case of thats the boring bit that makes it all interesting? so just shud up and do it?
10. been reading this dave and your patience is amazing, glad it's nearly there. i'll certainly stay well clear of cabs in that price range as to be honest i could get someone to build me a BFM cab for alot less (oh yeah and i can't afford em ) anyway in regards to soldering i would recommend no less than a 50watt iron, and use plenty of flux this way you should get a nice shiny join which is what you want. also lay a nice thick towel (an old one mind) doubled over (or a bit of old carpet) to stop any rogue solder.
11.
REALLY? thats one of the ones I had my eye on. Wouldnt mind trying it out somewhere but I doubt anywhere will have one in. p.s. I would never go to the Bass Celler They are a miserable bunch of w@nkers that work there
yeah i know what ya mean, if the young lady is still there then she's cool but the others, phff we've been there before so i won't go over old ground. it's good to look in but too expensive to buy from
12. i was in the bass cellar the other day (on denmark street) and they have the new ashdown stuff in there plus mark bass and all the usual suspects, worth a look.
13. that sucks, but ashdown are very willing to just repolace it. i had similar concerns when i bought my ashdown but i just loved the sound and price, and it's been though several loud practices and gigged now and all is fine, in fact it just seems to sound better the more i use it, and verything works fine on it so go figure. but to be honest every amp manufacturer is going to ship a dud and from the great reduction in complaints on forums (that i have seen) about ashdown i think they are getting things sorted.
14. i usually set up to the right of the drummer (left side of stage as you look at it) with the amp face within 2.8feet of the wall behind it if possible, this was a tip from BFM to stop phase cancelation or something and increases dB. the amp ins normally on 2 crates one crate high, this way i can hear it and so can the drummer, the 2 guitarists can hear what they need. it is also run through the pa on a low mix with the bass drum. i've never actuall yheard what it sounds like (cos i'm paying) but the singer and anyone else htere have always said it sounds very good and clear. at the weekend though i had to set up next to the drummer on the other side and it all sounded odd, no real reason why it should though, geuss you just get used to things.
15. would be good to know what budget you have.
16. i went for the ibanez, albeit the lower model in the sr500, but the sounds available are extensive. plays really well, comes with elixirs so they strings last for ages and they look cool. nuff said, would have gone for the higher end if i had the wedge.
17. oh and warickhunt, my nickname at college was hunt due to my first name. did consider it as my user name but figured it wouldn't go down well
18. i kinda assumed that that amount of gear would not just be bought, with him writing for a magazine and all so surely he gets sent stuff to test review etc and doesn't have to send back. jealous, hell yeah. impressed, hell yeah. oh and thanks for clearing up the cockney rhyming slang thing, i thought people had just strated writing in some new code and i'd missed out on what was going on.
19.
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah EpicFanny hahahahahahahahahahahaha etc Si
sweaty betty
20. i must be odd, cos i say twoten, and four-by-ten and one-one-five though i always struggle with decisions
21. the ABM's as has been said elsewhere do have a warm sound, if you are looking for something a bit more edgey then have a look at the MAG range (yes i know i bought one so i should be happy with it ) when i was looking at amps i was very keen on the rumble but was worried by the 100watt max (think it was the one with the 15" driver) but liked the sound and they are very expensive for what you get IMHO. i got as good if not better sounds out of the mag and there seems to be more available sounds in it too and a 307watt 210 combo for 300 quid can't be beat really. but like they say it may not be for you but defo worth a listen.
22. spot on merton, i think the thing with ashdown was that they went through a stage where the china plant was going through a learning curve, it certainly seems as if the complaints about reliability and breakdowns have dropped off if not stopped all together as i haven't seen any. It certainly was a worry when i was shortlisting amps but as that took quite a while and the revision of the mag and EB range came out during that time things seem good (though you also need to bare in mind that there may be the odd one or two that slip the net). am i right in thinking (i'm sure i read it somewhere) that ashdown test all the amps that come into their essex wharehouse before they ship them out?
23. i'd imagine trying to play YYZ with a pick would be an absolute nightmare.
