  1. i would actually disagree bassbloke as to people who know the songs then the lines would be recognisable and therefore relevent to the OP, but not necessarily to everyone, for example i have no idea how For the love of money goes.
  2. its not even well painted. that truely looks awful
  3. i'd like a god quality circuit. that would be awsome
  4. and isnt the inherent lack of an onboard power system countered by the fact that a passive bass requires more from the amp, by that i mean the fact that amps have an active and passive input (or auto switch) and the rating from the passive side is higher. i prefer active by the fact i can boost as well as cut, i can leave the amp well alone once it is set and noodle on the onboard EQ (not much just a little) there is a certain feel to a passive but i can see the similarity in the fact that yes they are effectively both active just one with more stages.

  6. love my mag210, no problems and its been a year now, though still not sure if the sub harmonic thingy works but maybe thats just me and the sound is spot on. though there is that little voice in the back of my head.
  7. my god thats just ludicrous. i wonder what the builders were sayin? "what a fookin bell end" or something along those lines. i would like to see the results of tying someone to a chair and then setting it on full (and on a timer so you could get out) if the house could stand it would you just be left with a pile of mush? i want one
  8. hmmm, i have been thinking alot about either a precision (though there is a part of me that screams no) or a Jazz Special coz i used to have a copy of those and it was nice, would certainly be a change from the ibanez.
  9. my old all natural 2band stingray, sold when skint and regretted it ever since. now i have my ibanez sr500, not quite in the same league but i doubt i'll ever sell it (famous last words)
  10. adding an 8ohm 2x10 will certainly add the higher end you are looking for wether you choose one with or without a horn, i am currently in the reverse position to you with a 2x10 combo and NEED to get a 1x15 to add more low end. one thing i have metioned before and has been mentioned by alex and BFM is to put the 2x10 extension cab on its side so that the speakers are vertically stacked, this will add to projection quite alot, there are technical reasons why but the simple explantion is it works, it might look a bit odd as the cabs might not match in width in this configuration but its worth the weirdness for the sound.
  11. right hand side of the drummer its just the way it worked out to start with and its stayted that way. tried playing on the other side but it felt weird
  12. also pay attention to where you cab is in relation to the wall, if you can't get it on the wall then you need it about 7 feet away from the walls otherwise you get phase cancelation (or something like that) and it will seem to cut you volume. mids are your friend but set up your sound how you like it without anyone playing and then while all playing tweek the mids on your bass (if you have them) or boost the mid and mid high but not too much, little at a time. we are fortunate to have a very large rehearsal room (its actually a hall) and we set up in the middle of the hall in a circle so we can all hear each other without being too loud or suffering from wall reflection problems. although after buying a new kit for our drummer we have had to up the volume a bit as the new kit is alot louder. +1 on feeling the bass not just hearing it
  13. might be interested in the peavey mixer desk and possible the PA stuff but i'll have to check with the rest of the band as they hold the money. personally i'd love the sting ray but no money for that sorry.
  14. cheers machines, i think i could narrow down what i had to give an idea for that time. based on that site i would imagine i had an '87-91 SR4. based on the fact it had top loaded bridge with offset string alignment, and mutes, 6 bolt neck plate (i could have swarn it was 4 but it did have the neck wheel at the body end) and the 'obispo' logo on the back of the headstock with the revised front logo. it was ALL maple with no stripe down the back of the neck. front access pre amp 2 band. sound was massive and that true stingray sound. i paid £650 for mine which in reflection was a bit of a bargin as it was totally mint. think i sold it to a shop for £300 cos i was massively skint (yeah i know what an idiot) and probably the single worst thing i have ever done in my musical life, wish i still had it. moral get one and keep it cos you'll regret it if you sell it.
  15. yeah the output on mine is rediculous, i never have it on full other wise i have to reduce the input on my amp considerably, it ramps up very quickly in the last part of the volume control on the bass. also i don't find the sound on mine thin at all with eq flat, very full, i can only add a touch of bass before the amp complains. its great for a covers band as i can tweak the sound more to the original right in the bass.
  16. yes i do, looks odd but sounds good, as recommended by alex clabber and BFM.
  17. very nice basses, love the sound feel and punch of mine and the variety of tones on offer. top value too
  18. yeah they do, can't imagine why anyone would want them off. glad it helped.
  19. the mag on the other hand i find anything but wooly
  20. i'll remember best i can as my amp is at our rehersal place. i get a fairly nice zingy sound from mine and then tweek it around with the onboard eq on me bass. Input set about 3 0clock deep switch on, bright switch on eq on (obviously) bass about 3oclockish mid bass 2oclock mid half1 high mid half3 treble 3 (though i do change that one occasionally) subgen on dial at about 11-12 oclock and just change you output to suit my bass is quite zingy anyway and i like a brightish sound but this is also quite punchy and bassy without being muddy. with this setting the VU meter does dance quite a bit on mine but it doesn't distort. hope that helps. oh and try it without any of your pedals attached first, get your sound that way then start adding them in
  21. yep we had about the same amount, about 20 odd, half arse round of applause at the end of songs wish they didn't even bother. got a bit smashed by the second half (we were off stage for an hour while they did the bingo) and figured it didn't really matter that much anyway lost me rag at the end of the gig and later text'd the band and told em i wanted out, hehe. not sure if i'll go back.
  22. sounds good, i would imagine just from you saying 'garage' that alot of what you were hearing was down to the un damped sound, played in a better environment it should sound fine. we had a practice a while ago in a scout hut that was bare brick walls, man did my ears hurt after that, sound bouncing around like a monkey on crack and the bass sounded awful. back in a normal setting and it sounded fine. let us know how you get on.
  23. this is one thing that has always confused me and i have seen it said alot. but if you are judging an amp on its sound flat then what is the point of teh EQ? yeah i'll agree my mag doesn't sound great (to me) set flat, but use the pre shapes and the eq and it comes alive, does that make it crap? not to me i played my bass through it flat and then messed with the tone options available to get my sound, throwing an amp out on its flat sound just seems wrong, though horses for courses i suppose.
  24. i was thinking of getting a 15 cab to get more low end grunt but i wonder if i would be better getting another 2x10 and stacking vertically. hmm just want to get the full output from the combo and some low end whackola
  25. yep, we got a gig, start at 8 for an hour, then a break while they do the bingo (yeah i said feckin bingo!!!)then back on again for another hour and half. its at a social club but i reckon it's gonna be dead, or they will be in the other bar watching the rugby, just looking at it like a paid practice. thing is i went of rugby a while ago and this now gets on me bristols.
