1. previously i never used any drive at all, liked the clean sound but for certain songs where i need to up the ante on certain parts it required really digging in. Now with my RM800 and footswitch i can bring in a bit of dirt when needed and requires less aggression on the strings. Been slowly incorporating it into more songs and it sounds great but i still like it clean. horses for courses.
2. yep definately, just as much as a bass has to float me boat visually. Theres that assumption that if it looks good quality then it is. If it looks like 90s cheap tat then...
3. i only have 3 basses but the recent addition of an Ibanez SR1805 is my go to, probably because its a 5ver but also it plays like a dream the tones are nice and its dead light and comfy. thought i'd keep switching back to my sr500 but i've barely touched it and the jazz doesnt even get a look in
4.
Are there any real differences?
(engage smart arse remark) they are spelt differently
5. the vertuoso pedal, bit like a wah/volume pedal, the more you increase it the more elaborate your playing becomes. Base setting being dullard which is my standard playing
6. love it, looks very pro and nice to be able to have your own built stuff still as much as i like seeing this stuff it does make me realise just how thick i am
7.
It really depends what style of music you're playing, your audience and the size of the venue. The clue is always in the word 'appropriate' volume. That's the hard thing to get across to a lot of bands. Nothing wrong with ear destroying volume in the right scenario, but as some people have said; they're staying away because it's too loud. No one has ever complained that a band has been too quiet.
actually we have had it a couple of times where we have been asked to turn it up a bit and i always thought we were generally loud
8. are you mad, coming in here thinking of using less watts? if you were a true man you'd use as much as you could afford and gloat at the fact you dont have to crank it, i know i do seriously i've gigged with 90 watts and struggled with a farting amp, i've gigged comfortably for years with a 300watt amp running at 2/3rds power (8ohm) and coped fine, and have now bought and 800watt amp just because, give in to the gas
9. my bass isnt high end but to me it is, i certainly couldnt replace it so its a keeper, as to the why? cos at the time i could and fancied a 5ver no other reason. and yes i play mustang sally on it and sweet home chicago etc and it sounds fab. but then to me a fender is a waste of money so what do i know?
10. yep very light, i could play mine for hours, hope its not too serious
11. nice review and lovely bass, and i have had similar problems getting used to the B string and have ended up playing on that thinking its the E, quickly realise though
12.
Cheers Mike! Wonder who Mr. X is?
did a little bit of digging and there is speculation over who it could be but nothing concrete, JK apparently said that whoever did play on it was arrogant and annoying to deal with which is a bit rich
13. i love metal, but is my bass good for metal, ive no idea as i play in a rock covers band, yes i would like to play heavier stuff but if im honest i proabably dont have the ability to play the stuff i like, so i geuss i'm just happy to be playing. not necessarily musiclly fullfilled but content
14. i'm more ove a slim neck type being that i have a couple of ibanez SR's though i have previously owned a Stingray and was comfortable on that too
15.
All Music has the credits listing Zender as the only bass player on the album? As for my personal favourite bass line, that's a sodding tough one, and I'll have to have a think! Are we choosing one song, or one entire album? We have had the Spotify playlist where users were adding songs to it all the time, Best Bass Lines Evaaaaar! That MIGHT work, if not then let me know and I'll try to add it another way!
stuart zender played on the Stoned Again mix (original version) with the slap style chorus, where as the album version has a different feel and different bassline creadited to a Mr. X
16. been putting my active bass into the passive input of my amps for years now, ashdown btw, and tweaked the input gain on the VU meter to suit. A good example is the ashdown rootmaster that i recently bought had just the one input and you control it with the gain knob, the new evo version has the two inputs again, must have been user feedback (not distortion, opinions) i have a Squire Affinity jazz bass that has a montrous output and had to go in the active input of my mag. as others have said let your ears decide
17. we've just gone to the behringer X32 rack ands its awesome, not really delved into it much yet having only done 1 gig with it but set up on ipad was quick and easy (probably cos i wasnt doing it) volcals were super clean
18. ah, thats better, looks a beast indeed
19. the mag combo i had was pretty weighty, should have mentioned that but then my mag 4x10 is no featherweight either. rootmaster would be the option, think i already said that
20.
Hey Mike, i dont know how loud your guitarists are but ours are painfully loud, along with the drummer.
the loudest i had to crank my MAG300 was about 2 o'clock as we were playing outside but it still had power to spare. The RM800 is a different beast, bodaciously loud and a bit more girth (resisting using the 'h' word)
21.
The one thing i noticed about the EB was it had a fair old output for its size. I'm wondering if Ashdown's figures for amp volume are conservative ?
the ones ive owned have put out plenty of volume even when 'only' running at 8ohms. the mag 300 i had which would have been putting out at most 200watts at 8ohms but was plenty loud enough to gig with 2 guitarists and loud drummer. but i cant say for sure about how conservative they are/arent
