1. i also sometimes pluck along to the bassline of a song with my right hand, been trying to bring in three finger plucking, other than that i have zero theory training so i cant really do much else
2.
Despite falling in lurve with the 180, its not going to cut it volume wise with our band
Di is an option as i did that at a gig in febuary when my Mag 300 had a hissy fit and went all quiet on me but still gave a signal to FOH, but you'd be better off looking into the MAG series stuff which is still hanging around in some places and perfectly giggable
3. i know and dont call me shirley
4.
Only a 5kg difference .. think i'd prefer 17.5kg
i think the speaking option is only on the cab
5.
Oh Em Gee Rootmaster C115T 500 EVO combo ...17.5kg ? I bet you have to cable up another cab for the 500 watts though
hmm PMT it says 22kg but still not bad
6. haha ok, imho the tone is still the same as the first Mag 2x10 combo that i owned and the rootmaster that i have (which is digital) still sounds as smooth and warm as the older versions, i think ashdown have their tone and they improve the spec of their equipment (i'm not an ashdown fanboy btw ) i just like the way it sounds
7. no problem but i would still recommend you get out and try some to make sure the tone is still what you were after and dont look just at combos, look at the seperate heads and cabs too, the new rootmaster range looks really good and from what i've heard the cabs are pretty light and the heads are pretty small and light too. really depends on your budget had a quick look in Ashdowns legacy stuff and found this head http://ashdownmusic.com/products/1/Bass-Amplification/18/Legacy/93/EB-180-Head/ which would probably have been the same as the amp in the combo you tried. The spec is very similar to the Mag Evo range except you didnt get the classic VU meter, compressor and lowerpower rating and cheaper cabinet build.
8. the electric blue stuff was a bargin version of the Mag series i believe which was the bargin version of the ABM range. have a look at the current AAA range and the Rootmaster range. I have the Rootmaster RM 800 and the Ashdown tone is definately there, the Rootmaster is the update of the Mag series (i think) but some stores also still have the older Mag products in stock
9. [s]ah a quick search says the Stage Clix has a built in NiMh battery, should have done a search to start with i guess[/s] hmm another search says its a LiPo, so ignore what i said
10. ok cool, i only have experiance with nicd and nimh, should have mentioned that and the op didnt mention battery type so i assumed rechargable duracell or similar. yeah i am aware of correcting the memory effect but ive never got back to full capacity and thats even with matched battery packs and thats using a discharge board
11. cant say much about the wireless but batteries do tend to suffer from "memory". You should try not to recherge before the battery reaches flat as over time if you, for example, kept recharging when the battery reached 30% eventually the device would switch off when the battery reached 30%, also having batteries connected to a charger for too long (smart phones suffer from this as alot of people leave them plugged in all day at work). Basically batteries should be cycled, full charge then full discharge, this isnt always possible but try and do it regularly. But batteries will eventually need to be replaced, as they will have a maximum charge/ discharge amount so if you use them alot they wont last as long as if you use them once a week.
12. well i got a run out at the weekend at a gig, handled it comfortably, gain set to bass's input leveleq'd and volume set at around 11 o'clock (any more was just too loud for the smallish room), didnt even get warm. drive worked really well through the footswitch and even added the sub occasionally. All in all an excellent very powerfull amp even at 8ohms well chuffed
13. not read the whole thread but i got pretty much this on saturday. Now i dont move much as quite often space is at a premium but i still nod my head and move a little with the music but near the end of the gig some said why did i look so miserable. Takes me a fair bit of concentration playing especially as ive just switched to 5 strings. but i'm also not a smiley person so i dont let comments bother me but i'll try and smile a bit more but i tend to look like a nutter
14.
The biggest aid for me is the lyrics. I learn my parts, intro, verse, chorus, any variations, etc, then I learn the song as if I was a singer and take my cues from that... god knows what I'd do for an instrumental!
^^this but as the band tend to follow my lead quite alot it just seems to happen, when i'm learning a song i use a combination of tab and play by ear, i cant read music at all and have zero training geuss i'm winging it
15. the manual for the Rumble 15/30/75 says this "LINE OUT Balanced output to connect to external devices such as PA systems and recording consoles. Use a balanced stereo cable (TRS→XLR or TRS→TRS) to reduce noise and hum. Mono (unbalanced) cables can also be used, but may be noisier. The level and tone of the LINE OUT signal is affected by all pre-amp controls, including Volume." so in a word yes
16.
The one thing I wish the original had was the second Speakon socket. All other things I can take or leave really as you say
yeah that is true, though i spoke to OBBM about this and can make up a little box that fixes the issue though ashdown cabs can be daisy chained to get 4ohm so its not really a problem as long as you dont mind using speakon for one cab and jack to the other (really should use punctuation)
17.
Just gentle upgrades, really. The EVO ones have dual inputs (active/passive), two Speakon outputs, switchable compressor and a mute switch.
i actually prefer the single input and use the gain, i always plugged into the passive input on my mag even though my basses are active, found the pad too much. the mute is a nice touch and i have the compressor always on so a switch seems a bit point less. Suppose they had to upgrade it somehow but i think they hit the nail on the head first time round
18. wouldnt say there are any that make me blub but one that does get me every time is Mother of Violence by Peter Gabriel
19.
Conversely though I absolutely definitely would buy this...
looks like something walt disney would have barfed up, and it has a gloss neck, so no no no
20. Bought one of these to replace my poorly Mag 300 EVOII bassed quite alot on mertons review. It is everything he says too, rich warm with a nice bite. a nice improvement over the old mag stuff. and boy is it loud even just running it at 8ohm. You can really 'feel' this amp, no lack of 'heft'. as for the no switchable octave i bought the FS-2 footswitch which get round this problem so the drive and sub harmonics become fully switchable and it works very well. Got a gig with it this saturday so i'll learn a bit more about it then.
21. Squire Jazz bass starter kit, the bass is an Affinity and it is actually pretty amazing for the price, the pick ups have a pretty high output and it sounds lovely, i do occasionally use it for gigs its just a little heavy. Bought it for my daughter to learn on but she never really got into it unfortunately.
22.
That is VERY interesting... Anyone know if there are any of the pre-E RM800s still going cheap anywhere?
just checked the place i got mine and they havent got any left, gear4music, pmt and dolphin have got them in stock but not many but they are only 50quid cheaper than the evos, i got mine for silly money though so they dont seem that cheap but still worth it i reckon.
23. ive been eyeing up the RM 610 too, but i cant justify the cost, but i bet it sounds good
24. wow really nice, the bass dont sound bad either looks wise its not my thing but like the sound, not that it would fit my band though
25.
Excellent, glad you like All your comments are exactly the same as my experiences which is nice!
you are partly to blame why i have it merton was a little cautious of it being class D and not having that 'heft' but it had more than the Mag300. Very very impressed, made my ibby sing
