  1. They making them in the Cort factory so with a retail of £3,000+ there's plenty of margin there. We're paying for the design in this case, not the say, Alembic build quality. Quite fancy a six. Have they done one yet? Have any BCers pulled the trigger on these current models? What are they like? Worth the price?
  2. It appears you are correct - I stand corrected. This from a Talkbass poster, who sounds like they know what they're talking about - no guarantee I know! Also an earlier thread from BC too. Bunny Brunel might have had a hand in testing the Yamaha BB series, along with the likes of Abe Laboriel, Nathan East, Lee Sklar, and a bunch of other session guys, but as I've understood it, John Carruthers developed the "Big Body" series basses for Yamaha, with input from all those early testers. It was not Bunny's design, or named for Bunny Brunel.
  3. "Hope you enjoy our new direction..."
  4. Do we not do 'Bass Guitars' thread any more?
  5. Loving that neck joint. Appreciate that's pretty specific but I assume the rest of the bass is top-notch too!
  6. Agreed re. integrity of the instruments. Bass Direct have a couple of beauties. Don't you think it's weird that that acronym actually represents 'Bunnel Brunnel Nathan East' which is a hybrid signature model of two people. P.S. Also unusual is the valid conjunction of 'that that'.
  7. Good luck - let us know how it sounds. All the demos I've heard of the Darkglass pedals have variations on an essentially musical distortion so you have grounds for optimism. P.S. I love that Suffolk has its own sub-genre of Folk-Rock. Makes me feel like it's 1974 again...
  8. Has NE played much with Phil Collins with his latest signature? I though Leland Sklar has done most of his bass?
  9. Triton you derrière! God! I bet you play a... Gibson. Oh you're right 'Titan'... Everything I know is lie..
  10. Man! Is that a Chinese knock-off? - the eyes are all wrong, the colour too - it's neon green! (Percy) and the body proportion is all mushed up.
  11. The '6' above looks wonderful but with the '7' it looks squashed and I suspect we're getting diminishing returns as an instrument. PS Still want one for some irrational reason...
  12. I think in the late 70s and 80s Alembics made huge strides in tone and build simultaneously which made for a potent combination. However, their designs are quirky and some have balance issues. Also they're heavy and some of the bodies are little more than nicely laminated slabs. In short, the industry has caught up and frankly the 'bics are looking a bit anachronistic against say a Stranberg with its Darkglass electronics, ergonomic body & neck, super-lightweight body, multi-scale and compound radius neck. You might also consider the current obsession with Fodera and similarly if they're value for money. For the record, an early call post-lottery win for me would be to Mica Wickersham... And there still Alembic craziness out there as evidenced by this post about the £20k build due in at Bass Direct:
  13. Dolphins have acquired a near mythical status... (No I'm not thinking of mermaids.) I'd love to try a 5 or a 6... Are they as comfortable as they look?
  14. Sorry to be negative but I don't enjoy any of it... It's awful. I mean I'd love to go for a massive campsite bender but don't count it as good music. Stormzy - don't know him - sure he's a nice chap but never heard a semiquaver of his music.
  15. Well that action looks good... Probably an easy player?
  16. So can you hear the difference of a Thumpinator or LPF on say a B3n directly? I get it that your amp won't have to work as hard amplifying non-audible frequencies but can you hear it directly or do you just get a bit more head-room from your amp working more efficiently?
  17. Good heavens! What a lovely bass. And in Fodera terms what appears to be a reasonable price. GLWTS
  18. WHY ARE YOU SHOUTING? Also very comprehensive post from EBS_Freak on Bernie's output here:
  19. Indeed but I find this sub-genre is quite gear specific - like gospel favouring MTB basses, Math metal seems to thrive on slant frets multi-string so Dingwall, Boden and Kiesel. All lovely basses but not old-world boutique...
  20. I have one of these and they sound great... Parallel or series options give loads of flexibility... GLWTS
  21. Jinkies! That will do the job!
  22. The courier of my basses is not a factor in my enjoyment of them. Actually nor is the money although we all love a bargain. This Ritter is certainly a spicy enchilada - GLWTS
  23. That's some horn!
  24. Oh yeah! When Sandberg were good! New shapes are very 'Chad Valley'...
