Help with buzz from Tonerider pickup on Ibanez SRMD200 bass
shoulderpet replied to Brim Taika's topic in Bass Guitars
I ordered an Artec but it seems it was dead on arrival, hopefully you have better luck than me. The preamp on the mezzo is pretty hot but I am sceptical that the pickup was too hot for the preamp as a I had a Seymour Duncan hot Spb2 in one a while back and no issues, I actually chose the SPB-2 to counter the mid scoop in the preamp and it was a great match and did exactly that. -
It conflates a number of things: age, marital status, skin colour, disabilities into one overarching law. But, as you hint with your "wordy legalise" comment, it is imprecise and so does not define the term. As with most/all UK laws, items are open to interpretation and I would certainly say that the Act can be efficacious in providing the desired results. However, the term "racism" it is not defined. Therefore its meaning is open to interpretation.

I believe two parts of the Act are relevant here. 1. the Introduction - An Act to make provision to require Ministers of the Crown and others when making strategic decisions about the exercise of their functions to have regard to the desirability of reducing socio-economic inequalities; to reform and harmonise equality law and restate the greater part of the enactments relating to discrimination and harassment related to certain personal characteristics; to enable certain employers to be required to publish information about the differences in pay between male and female employees; to prohibit victimisation in certain circumstances; to require the exercise of certain functions to be with regard to the need to eliminate discrimination and other prohibited conduct; to enable duties to be imposed in relation to the exercise of public procurement functions; to increase equality of opportunity; to amend the law relating to rights and responsibilities in family relationships; and for connected purposes. This outlaws "discrimination and harassment" base on a number of personal characteristics, 2. the definition of race (at Setion 9) - Race (1)Race includes— (a)colour; (b)nationality; (c)ethnic or national origins. (2)In relation to the protected characteristic of race— (a)a reference to a person who has a particular protected characteristic is a reference to a person of a particular racial group; (b)a reference to persons who share a protected characteristic is a reference to persons of the same racial group. (3)A racial group is a group of persons defined by reference to race; and a reference to a person's racial group is a reference to a racial group into which the person falls. (4)The fact that a racial group comprises two or more distinct racial groups does not prevent it from constituting a particular racial group. Therefore to discriminate or harass based on these characteristics is outlawed. Is not racism being defined here, for the purposes of the Law? The word itself may be missing but the man on the Clapham omnibus will know what is being defined here.

If your need is one session, loan one from a friend. Constant use, go for something good. I've had my Countryman 85 maybe 15 years, and I bought it used. It is maybe +25 years old, but sturdy, uncoloured, and works on a 9 V battery or Phantom.

Agree @danbanbass, I think they look great

I'd say there is a difference between a fan-fret and a copy of a specific instrument.

Anyone still got this? Would love to hear it

I think it's really important that we talk about stuff like this here, at work, in the pub and anywhere else possible. If we don't, a vacuum forms and only the most vociferous and cynical voices fill it. And in a world in which unmoderated, unchecked, unleavened info comes at us non-stop (and frequently via channels with opaque motives and intetests) we owe it to ourselves to ensure that moderate voices and quiet wisdom are not drowned out. I'm fairly certain there are people who are currently being led down a particular path who would be easily swayed if real data and logic were presented to them in a digestible way. I fear for what may come to pass ultimately on a wave of populism fired up by ignorance, fear and half-truths. Bickering and semantics are a sure fire way to get discussion shutdown.

I heard that's why they decommissioned the Royal Train, so that @neepheid could use it to travel to bass bashes.
-
While I don’t disagree, these look to be affordable and decent quality but then you don’t hear me going round saying “another fan fret, multi string pile of metal/funk junk either” One man’s junk is another man’s treasure. I just despise paying ridiculous money for a Fender custom shop bass. Also the fact that I can order exactly what I want rather than having something off the shelf is appealing.

I have the thomann cheapo di box. It's passive, and other than the signal being reduced slightly, I've no complaints!

Never worked with my Etherwave Theremin. If we plugged it into the PA and there was no signal at the desk the culprit was always the PA's DI100 box. Swapping it for the EMO DI box we carried would sort out the problem every single time. AFAICS the way that the earths of both devices were wired would cause the DI100 to effectively short the output of the Theremin.

Piezo electric tweets 1016's - Any interest in a larger order?

Hi Rob, I have found an honest politician for you! Let me tell you a story. A few years ago I built a few wedgehorn 6s and like you I needed Goldwood 1016's for the build and like you I found that the UK price was unbelievable considering that the price in the US was only about a $1 each. Fortunately my lady and I were holidaying in Vegas for a few days so to cut the story short, I ordered a load of Goldwood 1016's and had them delivered to our hotel and brought them back with me in my suitcase. Finished the wedgehorns and they were and still are, great. I bought more piezos than I needed just in case and the unused ones are just sitting on a shelf waiting for a use. It would seem that you have a use for them. If you'd care to message me with your address, I'll get them in the post to you FOC. Terry -

With more shiny things acquired or heading my way, it's time to clear some space on my pedal shelf. Maxon AD999 Analog Delay This is a stellar analog delay that I've owned for 20 years and never thought I'd sell. In my country band it was always on, either as a slapback or a longer atmospheric delay. In recent years I have come to want modulation and preferably tap tempo, and sadly this has neither. Maxon developed their own BBD chips, of which this has eight (8), giving a maximum delay time of 900ms. The delay sound is clear and sweet, but not squeaky clean like a digital delay. Here's a Guitar Player review. Excellent condition, boxed with manual. £160 delivered in the UK. Arion SAD-3 Analog Delay Probably analog delay's last gasp before the Carbon Copy brought about its resurgence. Unlike the SAD-1, this squeezes up to 200ms out of a single Panasonic MN3208 BBD chip. Consequently the delay is short, dark, and somewhat low in level unless you whack up the Depth control. In excellent condition with box and manual. £65 delivered in the UK. Walrus Audio Fundamental Reverb Provides 3 types of reverb, of which the Plate is my favourite. The Mix control allows you to dial in more reverb than dry signal, right up to 100% wet, so it can be used in a series loop (most amps) or parallel (some Laneys). In very good condition, with hook velcro on the base for fitting straight onto your pedal board. £95 delivered in the UK. FuzzDog Micro-V Envelope Filter Built by me from a FuzzDog kit, the circuit is based on a Mutron Micro V. All works as it should, but after an initial burst of wack-wacka lunacy, I kind of lost interest and have never found myself needing it on a pedalboard. Rubber feet on the base. The white spray-painted finish has sustained a couple of nicks, otherwise it is as you see it. Yours for £45 delivered in the UK. Boss AC3 Acoustic Simulator Does what it says on the tin - turns your clean electric sound into a passable facsimile of an acoustic. I think it sounds best with 'G. AMP OUT' into a clean guitar amp. In excellent condition with box and manual. £60 delivered in the UK. Burford Electronics Robot Ring Modulator (with useful mods) Not just any robot but one that has been out on the lash, scranned a kebab, had a fight, tried to shag a dustbin, and is now throwing up in a shop doorway - that's the sound you're hearing! You're probably not going to play Valerie through this but great fun can be had by tuning the oscillator to the key of the song and letting rip. (Some oscillator signal is audible when the pedal is engaged but nothing is being played.) This came to me faulty but I have rectified the wiring issues. I have also made it more user-friendly by adding a 9V power inlet (was previously battery-only) and a status LED. Some dings to the paintwork as per the photos. Comes with instructions. £75 delivered in the UK. Danelectro Cool Cat Tremolo A lovely optical trem. I think it shares the circuit with the earlier Tuna Melt (which I used to own) and the more recent Billionaire Filthy Rich. I was going to keep this but That Pedal Shelf is struggling under the weight... Controls for Speed and Depth, plus the Hard setting on the Hard/Soft switch takes you straight to choppy square-wave mode. In excellent condition with box - yours for £40 posted in the UK. Dazatronyx Optical Tremolo As far as I know, a unique design, hand-built in Australia. You don't see many over here. Controls for Rate, Tuning, and Boost. Tuning is kind of like depth but also affects the overall volume, and you then compensate with the Boost to taste. Mechanical true bypass switching. Operates from a standard 9V boss-style adaptor or a PP3 battery. In excellent condition, and just look at that artwork! No box, velcro on the base ready for your pedalboard! £85 posted in the UK.
