Badfinger album is a classic that everyone should have. Such a tragic story behind them. Dave -
How was Your rehearsal last morning or night ?
Stub Mandrel replied to nilorius's topic in General Discussion
Rehearsals with two bands in two days. Monday, quite mellow, nearly all new songs, straightforward and went well. No Matter What by Badfinger is a gem of a track. Today, the originals. More arranging and I had my first proper go at three part harmony*. We decided we needed to a brief funky interlude, we jammed and it turned into Funky Town. Also had a random extended blues jam, which was fun. *Actually I was only singing one part. -

I would absolutely LOVE to see a pic of this one day! Sharkfins are my favourite thing in the world and I just love how they look, LEDs would be absolutely killer I reckon

I went the other way. Started Jazz copy, then a P fretless, then a few basses later another Jazz back in 80's. In the 2010's i bought a Geddy Jazz, then a P bass (now sold), then a PJ and now a MarloweDK Jazz lookalike on steroids. I do like my Geddy Jazz tho both for tone and the neck and playability. Its just so nice and a warmer tone than the Sandberg. I might have a try on a US P bass again as i do love the tone of a P too. Nothing else sounds like a Fender P. Dave -

Looking good Stevie. You suit the Stingray, and as for that tartan suit, well what can i say. Band is sounding great as expected from your bands. You're definitely putting me in the mood for a Stingray. Dave -
Vocal Microphones, what are you using?
Stub Mandrel replied to Phil Starr's topic in PA set up and use
I've been encouraged to go supercardiod. I have a Superlux PRA D1n which was dirt cheap. Just read some reviews and consensus seems to be it's comparable with an SM58 beta. So... I'll pack it with my SM58 and try it. My I only do bvs anyway (although I was singing the fifth in three part harmony tonight, for the very first time at a rehearsal!) -

My take on string selection is that they’re one component of a tripartite system - strings, instrument, player. I love Gamuts on my 4/4, and if I play my Evahs the same way on the same instrument they don’t work for me. But if I back right off on the Evahs and use more pad and less bone in the finger, I can get close(r) to that lovely airy tone. I don’t think there’ one string to rule them all, just a moving triangle of parameters 👍 -

Thanks Beedster I admit that am a bit behind the curve and I am sure it will pass once the first string breaks on a gig 😂 -

I had the stereo and sold it. Regretted it and bought the mono. It really is the Swiss Army knife of amp world. I’ve got a Markbass Evo 1 to try out at the moment which basically, has the Multiamp amps and effects but has two independent channels, which is exactly what I need. I think it’s what I’ve been looking for, for a long time 😁

Keith McMillen KMI 12 Step and MIDI Expander This is the original KMI 12 Step Controller. It can be used as a set of bass pedals, to trigger chords, samples or even drum sounds. I’ve used it with a variety of synth modules for adding strings and organ for live gigs. I’m now playing more keyboards live so I’ve gone back to my Hammond bass pedals. There is software online to hook it up to a computer or iPad but I’ve always used it with hardware and it has done the job really well. I’ve colour coded the ins and outs with tape but can remove if required I’ve also taped the note names on the unit as I found it easier to see live. I used masking tape so it’s easy to remove without much residue to clean. KMI has now been rebranded as Muse Kinetics since Keith McMillen sadly died last year. Support is still available for all the KMI branded versions of their products. It’s really small and neat compared to a traditional bass pedal controller and weighs next to nothing. The unit itself is slim and made from woven carbon fibre. I have the original (tatty) packaging for both the pedals and the expander. I’ve included a link so you can see what it does. The Mark 2 version retails at around £435 street. The included MIDI expander was bought separately for £65 as I wanted to integrate it with my outboard hardware rather than use it with my computer. Postage at buyer’s cost UK only. No trades.

What Snarky bass is Michael playing?

Yes. I’ve heard his story about it & the bass sounds good. I won’t be encouraging anobium punctatum to infest any of mine! -

I used Laballa DTB’s for years until reading how good TI’s were, and buying a set. I like them. But I recently became aware they didn’t seem to suit the jazz so much. Just a bit too bright for me. And I think the same for the Stingray, but other Stingray users might like them. They work really well on my Medium scale Aria and are fine on my Ibanez SR.
