Totally agree with you. I have dropped my ABM and the wooden sleeve saved me big time. Saying that, the all-metal cover looks damn cool in my opinion. I see they've removed the AGM model from their line-up, which is sad as they looked rather nice. Actually, they sold two similar AGM amps, one in a wooden enclosure, one in a metal one. Was that Ashdown testing the waters?

+1 for the AC Guitars Mule. I've managed to lay my hands on a couple of them, a fretted 5 and a fretless 4. Both of them were marvellous, and the fretless 4 really had that Rob Allen, mini Double Bass thing going on. This is simply one of the best P-Style basses that I have ever had to pleasure to play. The Bass Centre and Bruce Thomas really created something special here. The neck offers what I like to refer to as 'Goldilocks Realness' in that the neck profile (hence the name of the bass) is ideally situated between a Precision Bass and a Jazz Bass. This one is just under 41mm in width at the nut. As the original pickup (which sounded great) became microphonic, I replaced it and the guts with a much improved EMG Geezer Butler setup. In addition, and this is a 'quirk' for all the Profile Bass models - the original s/p forced the pickups to be misaligned. I got a replacement which addresses this issue and all the polepieces are where they should be. The bass balances beautifully and, more importantly, sounds incredible. There's a growl and grunt on tap that responds beautifully to touch. More photos will be added in due course. The frets are in great condition. The rosewood fingerboard is lovely (and is thick in the slab stakes). And the truss rod has only had to be adjusted twice since I took delivery of this bass in 2017. Collection would be ideal but I am happy to send this to a lucky new owner provided they co-ordinate the courier. In addition, I can meet within the confines of the M25. You can't say that I am not flexible. Currently strung with a well worn-in set of NYXLs (45-105). And it comes with a non-original but serviceable gig bag. -
Fender could have done all those things with a little R&D if they had really wanted. The thing is Fender know that their core market aren't interested in these things. Also G&L's market for Fender-ish designs with a bit more innovation is already pretty saturated, and I bet there's a fair few G&L owners who don't even know of Leo Fender's involvement with their guitar or bass.

C4 synth I bought last week off here for the same price… I used to own one, liked it, sold it, wanted another, saw one at a good price, bought it and then remembered why it didn’t really fit into my rig. it will do synth, it will do octave, harmoniser, arpegator, phaser, drive, distortion, Wavefolding and pretty much every filter sound known to man… it’s just not what I’m going to use. oomos original sale post here -
I have experienced pretty much this exact scenario! William Morris Club in Wimbledon 1988, and it was 7" single. The dog was well behaved at least. Another time, about ten years later, with a different band, after a couple of pretty successful dates in the autumn, we were booked to play the small room at the Mean Fiddler on 2nd or 3rd January, so everyone was still recovering from New Year. What's more it was a Tuesday night, freakishly cold (something like -7C IIRC) and quite windy to boot. Unsurprisingly, I think we had about three people in the audience. I took a peep into the main room and even the headline act had pulled about ten people in. We were told shortly after that The Fiddler wouldn't be booking us any more because we were not able to get enough people along.

About 20 years ago I was a deposit payment away from ordering one. I'd looked longingly at the photos on the Shuker website and exchanged numerous emails with Jon regarding specifications. Then I actually got to play one at (IIRC) one of the Manchester Bass Days. I can't put my finger exactly on what it was, but the bass just didn't feel comfortable for me to play and the whole experience left me feeling very underwhelmed. Especially as a few weeks earlier I'd been at The Bass Gallery in Camden and had tried a Rob Allen and liked it a lot. In fact had the two experiences happened the other way round I might well have bought the Rob Allen. As it was I changed my mind completely about the look I wanted and put down a deposit on a Sei instead. -

We have a gig coming up there soon. This will be the first gig without our own PA and im just wondering what the monitor situation is.

I like it in that it would be lighter, but your point is valid about taking it around. I think I like what I'm used to and tend to prefer the looks with the case.

They do some out there things sometime ashdown. I can't work out why they'd market the new abm in that metal case with no protection. It's either to keep costs down, but then offer you the wooden sleeve at extra cost, or just a bit crazy. We know it won't last without protection with all those exposed knobs and sliders. I said it before about the RM - just add a clippable lid front and back and that would be miles better. Full protection, no need for a heavy wooden cover and very easy to use.
