Hi, I haven't had these for long (I used to own both these pedals many years ago, but bought them for the second time recently), but a recent change in musical direction has now made these obsolete. I have about 700€ invested in these and I' m looking to get back 650€ for them which seems reasonable considering the ridiculous prices the seperate pedals go for these days. I'm selling to fund some new hardware and onboard pre-amp for my main axe, so I'm not interested in trades this time, sorry.. Shipping from Belgium. Sales pitch: Up for sale is this magnificant duo of rare pedals made by Spencer at 3 Leaf Audio. The Proton is his take on the Mutron III filter and it doesn't get much funkier than this! The Doom is a unique sounding fuzz that is extremely dynamic and can get supersynthy. When combined these pedals offer a wide variety of funky and synthy sounding tones that are used by lany great artist that are looking to get someyhing "extra" out of their pedalboard (think of Stuart Zenders work with Jamiroquai, Tim Lefebre, Janek Gwizdala,...) Due to the very limited production these are very hard to come by and they keep going up in value, so finding a set like these two is quite a rare opportunity. Both pedals come with the original packaging and can be shipped worldwide. Kind regards, Don

I've had a couple of pickguards from Brian / earlpilanz and they are both perfect. I will soon be ordering a custom one for one of my epiphone casinos in single ply transparent tortoiseshell. The only thing holding me back from placing the order is my inability to decide whether I also want to order one for my other casino, and if so, what colour. I doubt I'll ever be inclined to order a custom pickguard from anyone else.

American Professional II Jazz Bass V, Maple Fingerboard, Roasted Pine. Almost brand new and excellent condition barely taken out side of case. Was bought with the intention of gigging but never happened. Slight accidental nick at the top of the bass. Doesnt affect sound in anyway. Pricing very low for (BC users) for quick sell and I dont want to negotiate.

Great basslines can also be one-off phenomena, like Slave To The Rhythm by Grace Jones, played by Luis Jardim (RIP). You couldn't really point out much of a body of recorded work as a bass player for multi-instrumentalist Luis, but he was obviously a terrific player and that track alone must be one of the standout bass parts of the 1980's, and that was the decade of the standout bass part. Players like that will most likely be overlooked, as will session musicians who were guitar and bass doublers, like the late great Tommy Cogbill. But like I keep saying, I'll be watching avidly and enjoying whatever crumbs of comfort and inspiration this series has to offer. Bear in mind I regularly spend an hour or more watching brain dead British couples deciding if they want to sell their pre-war semi in Slough and move to Post-war semi in Swindon with a bigger garden and sufficient room to add an incontinence-themed extension ( pending planning permission). I'm sure I'll be glued to this bass fest. -

No not a virtuoso, but he makes the most of his abilities in a really musical way. Adam Clayton knows how to play to the strengths of the instrument, and that's something that can elude some very technically-able players. -
How was Your rehearsal last morning or night ?
JapanAxe replied to nilorius's topic in General Discussion
This evening I was rehearsing on guitar with the rockabilly band that I recently joined. The guy who runs the band plays upright bass and has a very clear vision of what he wants. My job is to work out what that is (mainly old-school but not slavish copies) and deliver. Fortunately it seems I can do that more often than not. Previously I’ve played my Gretsch Duo Jet but tonight I tried my Palir Titan C4 (Cabronita T-style) which was great, and my Jazzmaster, which in sound terms wasn’t right for that band. I realise I’m talking to bass players here so you probably want to know about the BL’s bass. It’s blond, that’s all I can tell you. -

Greatest bass lines? Try those played by James Jamerson, Larry Graham, Bernard Edwards, Duck Dunn, Nathan East, Carol Kaye. . . . You can almost guarantee none of these players will be included! -
Fender blacktop jazz bass. Only played a few times, excellent condition. Includes original fender hard case. Made in Mexico, 2013 model. Champagne/pearl colour. I have swapped the pick guard for the purple tortoise shell. Original black pick guard comes with sale. A few of the pick guard screws have some rust on. All specs can be seen in the last few pictures. Sad to get rid of it but I am no longer the bassist in a band so have little use for it. Sounds incredible, the dual split coil pick ups give an amazing tone. Any questions feel free to ask.

Just wait until it's on. See if I'm wrong. -
We don't play at The Thornton (club) very often but it's always a nice friendly place. We managed to pull a few in, so it made for a good time. Lots of dancing. Lots of compliments. Although we were totally upstaged by one of the guitarist's young grandchildren who stood on stage dancing while we played the last set. The heat combined with a very busy weekend meant that I was pretty tuckered out by the end of it. I have next weekend off so hopefully can crack on with a bit of spannering on my old VW camper.

Those Chromes are pretty stiff flats in the scheme of things. Looking at the problems from the reverse angle, is there anything exceptional about the P Bass that makes them so playable on that bass? A non-angled headstock, yes, but I would still expect Chromes to be pretty tense on a typical Fender.

The Altos are… good. The specs are nonsense marketing waffle, but they’re capable enough for the money. And compact and light enough. If you’re a function band charging £5k a night then no, if (like me) you’re playing at the Frog and Hand Shandy and knocking out Brown Eyed Girl for the 748th time they’re well worth a look!

TheSwing started following B&W BW DM610 audiophile hi-fi speakers, VGC
-
The DM610 is a large bookshelf/standmount speaker from renowned hi-fi brand B&W, featuring a well-braced 30-litre sealed cabinet with 8-inch mid-bass driver. The larger driver and extra cabinet space create a much better low end range than from most similar speakers. This model allows for either bi-wiring or bi-amplification. These speakers present clean tight bass response, surprisingly clear mids for such a large driver and the pleasant highs that the well-designed B&W tweeter at that time was famous for. They can be driven quite loud, enough for the physical effect of the bass to be felt without audible distortion or a sense of sound compression. Both speakers are in Very Good condition, especially for their vintage. All-original, complete with full grilles (one of which has a small hole, shown in the final photo). Only £125. Collection from Bournemouth BH6 preferred. Here comes the science bit… Type: 2-way closed, shelf speaker Colour: Ash black veneer Dimensions: 490 x 236 x 303 mm (H x W x D) Weight: 7.8 kg Recommended amplifier power: 30-150 W Frequency response: 70 - 20,000 Hz (±2 dB) Crossover: 2500 Impedance: 4 Ohm

Chance to own something very cool indeed! For sale here is my 80s Fender PB-555 😳 Super quirky and rare, but really cool. This vintage Japanese made beast is a rare find that has some killer tones inside. As well as the most noticeable dual angled pickups, this has a series/parallel switch as well as a passive treble boost! I don’t know why they don’t re-produce some of these amazing 80s basses instead of regurgitating the same stuff every time (it sells, I get it) because these are so fun. Scratches and dings here and there, most notably on the headstock, but overall decent condition for a 40 year old bass. Only fault is one of the “F”s on the treble/tone knob is missing. Happy to post at buyers expense. Trades considered, mostly looking for a USA Jaguar bass or Sandberg California VS4.

How was your open mic or jam night last night?
Rosie C replied to tauzero's topic in General Discussion
I don't go to many open mics. The one above is a bit different as each person can choose to do a solo performance, or pick a song from a book the organisers provide for everyone to play together. Indeed! and playing fiddle while working out a harmony line from the guitar chords in real time is about as much as my brain can manage! -
Perpetuum Mobile — Penguin Cafe Orchestra

A weekend of Eagles tribute shows. Halifax Playhouse on Friday - a beautiful old hall, formerly a methodist church. A lovely, friendly crowd. A bit of a nervy trip back to Tyneside which involved negotiating a couple of floods. Next day, another Playhouse - this time at Alnwick, a little closer to home. Another lovely crowd. The front row of seats is int he same level as the band, and one particular highlight was when a chap in the front row spilled his drink, sending ice all over the stage. He got on his hands and knees, and crawled around under our feet trying to pick it ip, which he couldn't quite manage as ice is rather slippy. It all went on for a comically long time. This is the stuff you really remember in years to come. Next stop - Edinburgh & Whitehaven. Pics...

Misdee replied to martin8708's topic in General Discussion
It'll inevitably be the same old hoary favourites, Seven Nation Army, Smells like Teen Spirit, Peaches, Runaway, Walk On The Wild side ect. Also, expect revelatory and hitherto unheard anecdotes about how Bernard Edwards didn't know what strings came with his Stingray and such like. Such a great opportunity wasted. Still, a crap series about playing the bass is better than no series at all.
