  2. I agree with this. I feel like the choice of bass is for the bassist but the end-product is for everybody else. If a bass can be heard and you play it well I don't think most people care what it is,and why should they? Most paying audience members and music consumers wouldn't successfully identify a bass from an electric guitar. Play what you like and play well.
  3. I know, mad isn’t it? they’re not my teeth! (Previous owner). strings are Fender roundwounds. They’re not purpose made for shortscales I just cut them down.
  4. Thanks, but unfortunately that bass had to be returned due to a fault. The Sire I got subsequently is lighter so I didn't bother fitting replacement tuners.

    East Pre Amps

Hoping John is OK. I know he's had some health issues over the past couple of years but he's always bounced back. I did notice Maruszczyk have taken his preamps off their options list.
  6. These are underrated! The low and high controls are super handy on bass 👌
  7. Not really. The issue is that Trace power ratings are honest continuous RMS ratings so what a 250W Trace is rated at would be described as 1000W by less scrupulous manufacturers. Bear in mind 2,500W is only twice as loud as 500W, other things being equal.
  8. Talk about blunt 🧐
  9. TBH I take what I feel like to gigs, a combination of what suits the music, what deserves an outing, if the venue is a bit rough and how I feel.
  10. I dont use it to recreate anything, and couldn’t care less about any amps from the past, i just like the tone and how it warms up my sound. Ive had the MKI, the MKII and have also owned the VTBass DI and Paradriver V2 over the years. I never pay any attention to the PR blurb that tells you how wonderfully accurate these things are, i just like what they do for me. In fact ive never owned any of those amps you mention, but yeah, most amps dont have a blend. I use the 1/4 out in to the front of a bass rig, or sometimes via the return. I have always dont this and know it works for me. I was hoping the FR might be a way to have my usual BDDI tone with a bit of Chorus and filter on top, from just one box. Its not a big deal, i was just asking here in case i was missing a way to do with without a dedicated Blend knob. I might even give it a go anyway and see what i can come up with. I guess at the end of the day, for me the BDDI is an EQ pedal that does what i need.
  11. I am utterly suprised anyone that isn't a bass player, can even tell the difference between a Precision and a Jazz to ask for one. For anyone I have played and worked with, all they see is Fender on the headstock. And no one has ever asked me to bring any specific bass.

  13. Vintage tube Ampeg SVT, V4's, Traynors, Sunn, Marshalls had no "Blend" control which is why I mentioned the reason for the design. I think for a lot of players that have only played solid state amps and have never spent a considerable amount of time with tube amps, any type of OD can seem like an effect. When I cut bass tracks at home I usually just use my old Leeds pedal. No blend. I used to go into my Great River ME-1NV through my Emperical Labs Distressor but found even just running the Leeds fairly clean the bass sounds more there and melds with the track better. What are you plugging the Bass Driver into? An amp, mixer?
  14. To me yeah, it’s not completely gone but not as bad. I reckon once they’ve bedded in it’ll be better again.
  15. Thanks - it does the job! I did it with basic hand tools so the screw holes aren’t countersunk correctly. The drill bit I bought for the job just chewed up the plastic I tried it on so I had to improvise and they aren’t as deep as I would’ve liked.
  16. I’m up for a meet up if your not too far away.
  17. My U bass is well under 2 lbs... maybe like the weight of trashy love novel.
  18. I'm not convinced its a "totally different" animal - possibly only a couple years older with both being the very last UK manufactured?
  19. I fitted neodymium magnets to my Squier Jaguar which balanced the p and j nicely (they were very poor before). I made a PJ (precision) bitsa with Wilkinson pickups and they balance quite well, as does my Sire P10 which is active. Vintage style pickups really don't seem to like the PJ configuration.
  20. TBH, only sticking this up as I fancy NickD's 3.0. version. This pushes out 375w stand alone and 600w if you add another 8 Ohm cab (or plug the head into a 4 Ohm cab) Great condition, just a few minor scuffs. Light, powerful and able to cope with most gigs. Everything works as it should. Comes with thick padded cover. Spare 12AX7 inc. Pick up preferably from IP25 Ashill but could arrange something else depending on where you are. If Nick's sells, I will probably withdraw mine unless you have a shuttle 3.0 combo. Welcome to come and try the combo and the coffee.
