I’m often blown away by the various expertise of BC members on certain subjects, but @Bill Fitzmaurice is another level. Amazing knowledge.

mybass started following Custom 33" scale Fretless bass
-
I've made quite a few basses over the years, mainly fretless and I use them all the time for live and recording work. This build was to see how a 33" scale bass would work out over my usual 34" scale basses. The smaller body and scale length is very nice to play, maybe good for someone wanting a fretless now and then in the set. Selling because....I'm still into my old and newer 34" scale basses so before scavenging parts off this one for a new build, I feel I'd rather sell it on. The specs will show its got all top parts and woods...I think all this wood and parts would cost about £600 before making them into a bass. You are welcome to try the bass of course...tea available! Weight...approx 7lb 6oz 12" widest body section. One Piece European 'Rippled' Ash. Three piece Rock Maple flamed. Macassar Ebony fingerboard. Delano passive Jazz Pickups.Gotoh GB7 Tuners. Bone Nut. Metal Dome knobs.....Volume/Balance/'Tone'. Hipshot Bridge. Barrel Jack output (probably Switchcraft). 3mm Black side dots. Large Strap buttons. D'Addario Nickel strings 100/80/65/45 Maple wood back and neck pocket "inserts (see picture...just an idea I had!). NZ Paua (abalone type) inlay on body rear and truss rod insert.

Lowther, and many Fostex models as well, are primarily aimed at audiophools who are convinced of the need for single driver hi-fi cabs. To extend the highs they use small very light cones. That also gives low Qes/Qts for high sensitivity, but with weak lows. To get the lows up to a useful level they put them into rear loaded folded horns. The high sensitivity is useful with very low power valve amps, over which audiophools also wax poetic. But these are the same blokes who'll pay 100 quid or more a meter for cables. They're easily bested with two or three way ported speakers and modern amplification.

Got one of those basses and out the box they are fantastic especially for the price. I didn`t have to adjust anything, it was spot on and the neck is super comfy. I would say it`s the same sort of size as a Fender Player P but for almost half the price! -

I had no idea these existed. I have often fancied the control that digital offers but in a 4 channel package. Well, here it is. I was worried that it did not have parametric eq. It does. They also make. Cute mic stand adapter. So I shall buy one. BC, always finding me new ways to spend money.

Bugger all I suspect. The others have a good run and if you plugged and redrilled the E then it wouldn't line up with the rest. -

I was lent a stagg bass in bits that had been part of someone's CDT project, so I had to assemble and set up a bass before I could play it... played it loads before I had to give it back and had been saving... we found it hidden in the back of a shop in colchester where it had been sat for years, neck like a banana. I was a kid and my dad was working in colchester so had got a lift up with him, he came and bought it... turned up in his work suit and mentioned he was an auditor and the guitar shop owner was a bit unsettled and gave us a good good price. Played it for years till I bought my first Fender Presision (Japan) and then it kinda got retired. At that stage I probably didn't appreciate what it was... I think it was about then I discovered Basschat and realised there was a bunch of folk who would buy things from me and I could use the money for other things, this got sold and I picked up my first Warwick from @warwickhunt...

Speaker advice for Silver Face Bassman
Bill Fitzmaurice replied to revolver's topic in Amps and Cabs
Your current Celestion isn't all that bad, but the port is too short. It should be 13cm long, which will give better lows. The driver xmax is very short at only 2.5mm, which limits it to 50w before reaching the excursion limit. If you're not have an issue with distorting lows it doesn't much matter, but if you are that's the likely cause. Going to the Celestion FTR15-3070C with 5.5mm xmax would cure that. You also want to see if the cab has cross bracing and wadding inside. Fender was notorious for leaving out both. -
