  1. Past hour
  2. Would consider trades for a medium or short scale something, or a EUB. What do you have?
  3. I love the pic , I’ll get something , but not banking on picking the photo next month 😁
  4. Excuse the non bass anecdote, but it was an embarrassing rookie error. (and excuse the name drop...) While still a studio assistant early '80s, I had to run a session for Heaven 17 who were recording some demos. The engineer who I mainly worked with had a line in cheeky phrases that he could get away with and would always get a laugh. So we ran through a lead vocal with Glen Gregory. No issues, all fine. However, I thought I'd try a cheeky remark, you know, as you do when you think you're above your station. "that was great Glen, thanks. If you'd lke to leave your name and number in the bin on the way out" It didn't really go down as well as expected! I was rather embarrassed, but had to balls it out.
  5. Haven't done one of these for a year (or two?), I'd love to give this a go if I can find the time.
  6. Shame it didn't work out for you as the above is all true.
  7. Excellent choice, congratulations!
  8. It started a bit like @Skinnyman with my first ever fiver, a brand new Hohner The Jack V. I proudly came to the rehearsal with that one and only bass and started to tune it EADGD instead of BEADG with the factory fitted strings, even if I found the strings very hard on the fingers, I kept going on until the G string broke in a loud snap very slightly injuring my left hand that was on the neck. No more rehearsal that evening, but beer drinking instead... I had to wait for a month to receive a brand new set from the local store, hey it was 1989 so the store was not stocking fiver bass string sets at all, and certainly not double ball type.
  9. If changing the setup to BEAD requires a bass change, go for it. By the way, how do you manage string changes with your other basses?
  10. This is my last resort! I like the satisfaction of being able to do it myself although in this case a good luthier may be the way forward!
  11. 45mm it is 👍
  12. Thanks for your reply. I’ve got the neck fairly straight, just a very slight bow. Compared to my Warwick thumb it’s very straight. The Warwick is set up really nicely. Though I have tried more relief in the Bongo and after saddle adjustment I have the same problem. I’ve not changed string gauges recently. I’ve just not played the Bongo for about a year or more and when I came back to it I noticed the action was terrible and tried to make adjustments and now this problem. I’ll try more relief in the neck again like you suggested.
  13. I think it's a prop like the Marshall ones. A local music venue also has one. David
  14. Precisely, so I can’t solo a pickup to check if just one cancels the hum. But from looking online it seems as though they definitely do.
  15. Thanks Bigguy I’ve got the neck fairly straight at the moment. Maybe a very slight bow. Ive tried more relief but have the same problem after adjusting the saddles to lower the action. I’ve got more than 3mm at the 12 feet and still buzzing. I have already taken care of the nut slot height and pretty happy with that. It’s not individual frets but really all frets from the 7th onwards that are a problem. I’m curious to understand what you mean when you say shim the neck to get the correct angle? We will get to the bottom of this problem 😂
  16. I'd always encourage anyone who's not convinced by the 5-string experience to restring it with a high C and try it again. It becomes an entirely different beast.
  17. Bought a Stomp as a backup, then realised I only ever used the Stomp as it was enough so I sold the full fat Helix, then realised the Stomp wasn't enough so swapped the Stomp for a Quad Cortex. As ever much time and money was spent for little, if any, gain.
  18. So just a follow-up for anyone interested: today a beautiful 1980s Kawai K502 in mahogany was bought from and delivered by a local piano tuner/2nd hand dealer. Couldn't be happier!
  19. Cum On Feel The Noize - Slade
  20. Today
  21. Went round to the rehearsal space last night to drop off the new biamp cables for my GK rig and test it out, so thought I'd kill two birds with one stone, so to speak and brought the new P Bass to test out with it. To say I'm happy is an understatement 😁😁
  22. I'll see if I can muster up the courage
  23. DMZ pups are usually 4 conductor wiring to eliminate hum [asfaik], but if both pups are always on, shouldn't that eliminate any hum????
  24. Agreed, but if you don't ask him, you'll never know, and I truly think he would give you all the advices needed to start on good basis. One hour with Axl will be better than a year on the YouTube... You have absolutely nothing to lose, on the contrary.
