  2. Not a bass, but my 1967 Gibson SG junior I drove to newcastle upon tyne from Dover. It was a 700 mile round trip and I did it in a day (it was a long day)
  3. I'm learning the original. E flat plus lots accidentals 😖
  4. What if... what if... OK, stick to tee-shirts and hoodies, then.
  5. Im not a lawyer, but isnt it Copyright infringement, i.e. the denial of profits which the creator is entitled to? which is a civil matter rather than criminal? until it gets to mass production of counterfeit goods. Jonny
  6. For example, promising small gear manufacturers that you'll review their gear, then you don't, then you actually SELL said gear instead of sending back to the manufacturer... I think that's actual theft. Selling the transcript for other people's solos (who are also trying to sell the same transcript they ACTUALLY wrote)... I think that's theft too. Just... read some, man. It was never about the pretending part.
  7. NeuralDSP have about 12 hours left on their 50% off plugins deal. The Parallax is a particularly great bass plugin. Free 14 day trial is available on their site, but the discounted price only lasts to tonight.
  8. Just to add, labella LTFs and the TIs aren’t floppy, they are lower tension though than the others mentioned, I also had the fender flats and they are fairly high tension , maybe look at labella 760 FS they are a nice string that still have brightness even when played in

  10. Many thanks for the detailed reply. The more videos I watch, the more I like the Fender 9050. I guess this isn’t the cup of tea of many flat users, but the sound of these with tone fully open, with both fingers & pick, is the closest so far to the kind of sound I’m wanting, kind of growly but without the finger noise of rounds. 3:43 (after he removes the foam!) - 5:00 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Xw4fNSRcjCQ&pp=ygUjZmVuZGVyIDkwNTBsIGZsYXR3b3VuZCBiYXNzIHN0cmluZ3PSBwkJ2ACjtWo3m0M%3D
  11. Heard it through the grapevine (Creedence CR version). Interesting walking line, no two tabs remotely agree, I will have to use my ears...
  12. That's the truth of it, and any percentage applied to the confiscation of proceeds versus number of prosecutions would be dependent on the rate of prosecution, the estimates of unlawful gains etc. In short, the overall percentage of money confiscated versus money stolen is far lower than would appear - the reality with most fraud is this it goes undetected or if detected unpunished and if punished often at nothing like equivalence That's true
  13. 1: He sold transcriptions of other people's work claiming it was his work. 2: He released music on Spotify and claimed he was the only composer but he wasn't a composer of the tunes at all. Both are fraud / obtaining money by deception. Not just civil disputes but actually criminal offences.
  14. What if the machine they were using had something on it, unbeknownst to them? You would only need one error at some point in the chain by one provider to bring the whole method into question. Hmmm, indeed!

  16. I've tried all of those. The La Bellas are definitely out for you - they are the sound of Motown. TI Jazz are lovely but are low tension. The Rotos are massive tension and they are very bright for about a week and then the brightness falls off a cliff. Steve Harris of Iron Maiden changes his every single show. John Deacon had them on his P bass too and you can hear how different his tone is to Harris'. Fender - nice string indeed. Reasonably bright, nice feel under the fingers. I do wish they changed their gauges though. The E can be a bit floppy compared to the rest. EB Cobalts - I have these on a PJ at the moment. They are not bad but I do find they feel a bit weird under the fingers for some reason. Once they die I will not get another set. They are bright but you still won't get a Marcus Miller type brightness out of them One you haven't mentioned - EB Group Flats. These are the other EB flats. Stainless steel. They are not quite as bright as the Cobalts but it's very close once you've EQ'd everything to taste. They feel much nicer to me under the fingers. They will do a good 1970s chunky slap sound brightness. Hope that helps a bit.
  17. Passing off other people’s music as your own is basically theft isn’t it? Selling a guitar which had been given to you for exposure but then not given said exposure isn’t illegal but is highly dubious behaviour.
  18. Technically its fraud if people are paying you money to do it. He's not just "pretending to play guitar". But, I was just commenting on the fact that proceeds are often recovered.
  19. I know he used it to record the last Who album. The strings were changed for the recordings (through a Fender Deluxe!!) and I got given them. Not my thing so I passed them on.
  20. One wonders, then, who put the files on the USB in the first place. I was suggesting that the group did that, using virgin USB media. Would they inadvertently corrupt their own merchandise..? Hmm...
  21. It's not so much viruses but as has been said executables that are likely to be the problem. A less than scrupulous band might include something that would make your computer stream their Spotify catalogue 24/7 in the background. Having said that most short run CDs are on CDR these days. Even if you have them duplicated by a commercial outfit do they actually check what they are producing? Most of the services will ask for a DDP file which could have pretty much anything on it. And even big labels aren't immune from including undesirable files on their manufactured CDs. Anyone remember the Sony Records root-kit that was supposed be for copy protection in the early 2000s?
  22. Often it will be the cost and likelihood of recovery vs the amount recovered. No one is going to pay thousands of pounds to recover a few YouTube royalties.
  23. CD's can never infect PC's, though..? Hmm... It seems a bit excessive. I spent a very long time in the IT world, and am well aware of the potential risks, but also of their probability. I would trust a USB bought from a group's concert just as much as their CD, bought at the same venue. Apparently I'm doing it all wrong, though.
  24. Well, they may not do so deliberately or even knowingly.
