And here is how it sounded when it was fretless: The funny thing is that I asked Jean-Paul, the bassist here if he had a vintage Jazz Bass for sale, and he pointed me this refinished one that used to be his and he gave me all these informations.

Yeah I've been looking into non-EU basses and it all looks nice, but adding import and VAT usually doesn't make the actual price lower than e.g. a German one. Well, I already have 4 vintage basses ('66, '70, '71 and '71) so I'm pretty well set. I'll have to wait for the right one. Ah thanks! I've been checking Bassic and Zikinf already, of course

Got a few items for sale after making some recent upgrades and having a clear out TD25 module £375 KD9 kick pad £60 KD8 kick pad £35 KD85 kick pad - very little wear to the head £120 PD80 pad £35 FD8 Hi-hat pedal with new actuator £40 Cable harness to fit TD9, TD11, TD15, TD17 or TD25 - works fine although some of the labels are worn off £30 I’m based in Wakefield, West Yorks but I’m happy to box up and get a postage cost for any of these. I normally use Evri so it’s not too pricey. I’ve also got a spare MDS9 frame for £45 but probably trickier to post that.

The second one, the natural, belonged to a friend of mine, who imported it from the USA in 2009 and only sold it in 2023 to the actual seller... It was already refinished in white when he received it, but it wasn't a great job when looking close, so a local luthier (Olivier Roux from Saint-Nazaire) turned it into a natural finish, but everything else is fully original, except the frets that were dead in 2018, so another luthier (Cyril Guerin) turned it into fretless and it was refretted just before its sale in 2023 by the same person, and it even comes with its original case. Maybe worth asking @BassAgent. If French is a problem, just ask, and I'll help you.

High Quality 3/4 DB Gigbag - suggestions?
Happy Jack replied to Happy Jack's topic in EUB and Double Bass
Thanks Pete. Used to have one of these in 3/4 size, but I too gave it away. It would fit quite easily in my vehicle but (a) it was a right bugger to manoevre through the front door, the front hall, and the 90-degree turn into the sitting room, and (b) once emptied it took up as much room as when it was full. Not sure whether they actually do these in 7/8 size anyway. -
Nice bass @BCH what is it ? Dave

High Quality 3/4 DB Gigbag - suggestions?

If you've got room in the van, one of those semi-rigid cases with wheels might be an option? Someone had one FOC on the forum a couple of months ago, but it wouldn't fit into my car. -
High Quality 3/4 DB Gigbag - suggestions?
Happy Jack replied to Happy Jack's topic in EUB and Double Bass
This remains a lovely piece of kit but it's deffo intended for a genuine 3/4 DB, not a 7/8 DB like my Alcoa. Overall length is 2cm short (bit of a stretch but probably manageable), but body length is 7cm short for my bass. My guess is that I could just about squeeze the Alcoa into this gigbag but it would be pulled out of shape with inevitable potentially disadvantageous consequences. I.E. I'd end up breaking something. Not keen to spend £835 to find out. -

High Quality 3/4 DB Gigbag - suggestions?
Happy Jack replied to Happy Jack's topic in EUB and Double Bass
This is making progress. They're giving a rough estimate of US$750 for a tailor-made bag to fit my bass, and in a custom colour. On top of that I'm looking at US$125 for shipping, and then at UK duty & VAT, so we're heading back towards UK£800 overall, but that's for a custom build. The conversation continues. -

I have just ordered this beauty from Thomann: Bought from money I got from the Boss GT-1000CORE I just sold. Top: Spruce Back and sides: Sapele Bolt-on neck: Okoume Fingerboard: Purpleheart It's an Ibanez TCY621-BOT. I don't own a proper guitar and no Western guitar at all, but always loved the sound of the latter, and is a big fan of folk music. And listening to demos it sounds great, despite its smaller body, and the pickup sounds great as well. Should have it Thursday or Friday. Will post an update when I get it.

Never thought about playing it, but it sure is a great show and a great soundtrack. Saw it with the wife a couple of years ago, downloaded the soundtrack and then accidentally played the opening number in the car with the kids (9 and 5 at the time) - they loved it. We do have to bleep out the STFD bit every time though! And we had to be a bit careful explaining the story. Maybe I'll try and find some tab...

It just proves how gullible Joe Public really is. As we know from being performers of various levels of ability, Joe Public just likes a nice tune, usually a nice tune he knows. It doesn’t matter if you’re terrible or amazing. They don’t know the difference. You can have perfect technique, sound and chops. It doesn’t matter to them. You can have the most horrendous technique, terrible sound, and no chops and they’ll still love it when you play something they know. They’ll love it even more if a young lady flashes some pretty flesh. How’d you think Stock Aitken & Waterman made so much moolah in the 80’s? I always remember the two old hecklers at a Thursday night Jam in Carlton, Nottingham several decades ago. If you were good they’d shout, “Play something we know!” If you were truly awful, it’d be “Play something YOU know!” As for Sapko, I’m left wondering who’s taking the urine out of who? After all, he’s making plenty of YouTube money out of hot air and fake outrage. Good luck to them all, I say. I’m off to watch Hoovie’s Garage. “Wiiiiizard…”

High Quality 3/4 DB Gigbag - suggestions?
Happy Jack replied to Happy Jack's topic in EUB and Double Bass
I was actually very impressed with the range of DB gigbags these people sell, and their prices are really keen, so I did some digging. Oh dear. Oh dear, oh dear. Oh dearie, dearie me. It's apparently a tiny music store in Thessaloniki, up near the Macedonian border: Papafi 91, Thessaloniki 544 53, Greece if you want to check them out. Their FB page comprises endless photos of the same guy playing solo sax in different settings: https://www.facebook.com/drumlandsound/ Am I interested in sending Loadsamoney to Stavros? I am not.
