I have only heard the first half of the album but I quite like it so far. The whole sound of Deftones has changed post Chi. Carpenter now generally uses 8 string guitars which takes up a lot of low end space. The bass now takes up a lot of the midrange and doesn't have much sub-frequency content. Even when Sergio was in the band he often wasn't even playing downtuned like Chi was previously. I don't think it is bad at all, just different. Still sounds like Deftones to me, though I actually like Diamond Eyes and Koi No Yokan more than a lot of the earlier albums.

Had my first real test with the GP-5 over the weekend, back to back gigs with a solid, well organised soul band (GP-5 on my board at the end). I used just one effect all night, the "finger bass" (that had felt right for this band in my testing) and got compliments from the guys on my tone (more than for my playing 😂) so happy days with the GP-5 so far.... VID20250824205002.mp4 It's so convenient and versatile, today I popped it off the board with 5V, bass and headphones wired in for some song learning...Insert existing attachment

Three (!) gigs this weekend Friday was the Cantina Band at the Vaults in Knowle for guitarist Steve's 50th. A good laugh, a decent turnout, Steve insisted nobody drive so we could all have a few drinks and who am I to argue? One of his daughters (14? or 15?) joined us on drums for 5 or 6 songs, she's really good! She made the mistake of knowing the songs and playing them properly, which really threw the rest of us. His other daugter (11? or 12?) joined us to sing A-P-T, which was great, she gave it loads! We also had a friend of the band on additional guitar so Steve could go and have a few (more) drinks. Mrs StingRayBoy came, she loved it which is always nice... I joined her on the "dancefloor" for the last song, first time I've ever smooched someone while playing. Played the Sterling -> small board -> Amp board -> Mark CMD 121p, Silver/Gold glittery Converse. Saturday was Azura (3 piece) at O'Neill's Leicester. Dep drummer (Little Nige) who's been gigging since I was a glint in the Milkman's eye, lovely bloke, great drummer. Good gig, bit seat of the pants, usual drunken rabble... one bloke thought we were Grandad, Father and Son (The ages are about right, to be fair), we played Happy Birthday to three people (all at the same time (Alison and two others whose names escape me)), we did 'I'm a hog for you baby' which Little Nige sang - great song and a ton of fun to play. First outing for my (Basschat purchased) LD IEMs which worked flawlessly - happily, the band use the same system so I didn't even have to set up the transmitter. Went for a wireless wander for the encore (Don't look back in anger (Don't judge me, it's a Saturday night pub gig)) which was an absolute hoot. Same setup (and footwear) as Friday. A good night, except I didn't get home until gone 3 o'clock. Sunday Afternoon was the Sax Pistols at the King's Arms in Cleeve Prior. How the BL finds these gigs, I'll never know... tiny little village with about four houses (and the King's Arms) It was a 'reopening under new ownership' type affair, a good few people there, we went down well, we played OK, we sounded pretty good. The whole band (apart from the drummer) use wireless mics, so there was plenty of strolling about, especially for 'Tequila' and 'Minnie the Moocher' which is always fun and goes down well. There was a Delorean there! (Weirdly, Mrs StingRayBoy had seen a different Delorean on the M5 about two weeks ago) Oh, and two blokes dressed as Spiderman (He's a web designer... he sorts out the bugs) and Superman for some reason. I went off charts for the first time, not entirely unsuccessfully. Played the Sousaphone, wore the same Converse. A good weekend!

PaulKing started following Tailpiece Jack Clip
-
After a busy weekend (four festivals in four days!), I can report that my new tailpiece jack clip performed perfectly ... even when the power went on my whole pedal board mid-song, meaning I had to rip out the jack and plug direct into amp in a big hurry. Previously would've risked fiddly velcro coming loose and jack falling off tailpiece - but no such trouble. I was back in business before the final chorus, and a massive Twinwood Festival dance floor didn't miss a beat! Very nice, simple, rugged bit of kit. Shoulda got them a long time ago. Thanks @bassace for supplying three clips, one for each of my main gigging basses, with options on mounting screw length. FYI - Underwood is just OK with the smaller clip, Shadow hexagonal barrel deffo needs the bigger clip!

Been up for a week or so now 👍 Release date, 27th August. -
You could add some water to the tidebond if it's too thick to run into the crack, maybe a little "pumping" with the headstock to let the glue run into the crack.
-
Depped for a soul band at the weekend and got complimented on the tone (stock "finger bass" setting on the GP-5 to an Ampeg BA-210v2 and PRE from the Giga Set into the digital IEM band mixer) and a nice discussion of the board with the guitarist. A totally unnecessary diagram, because it was fun to do (used Google Drawings) 🙃

I'd msg @Andyjr1515 for his take on the matter, and glue choice. Its a crack rather than a break, so no real alignment and angle issues, plus a nice bit of extra volute wood for strength in the vacinity... ASAP While the tension is still on, some titebond(?) or most suitable - be nice and warm and runny this weather - to wick in all the open gap. Rather than looking to open the gap again for the glueing. Then off with the tension and a good clamp... (i've seen inner tubes wrapped around things, then pumped up to apply conforming pressure if no decent clap and packing) - how long? 48hrs? As mentioned previously, no lacquer finish, so a little bit of sanding, wire wool 0000 to remove any glue ooze and a dab of oil or wax!

Chris2112 started following New Deftones
-
From what I've heard so far, it's typical Deftones. You usually get a few bangers per album with great catchy riffs from Stephen and a few plodders/filler tracks. I haven't heard a track as good as 'when girls telephone boys' or 'CMND / CTRL' yet though. The bass work sounds absolutely fine to me, which is what I expect. The appeal of Deftones for me has always been the interplay between Abe and Stephen, particularly the way that Stephen is often happy to play in quite a 'sparse' fashion and really get his amp going. His style of riffing is like an elephant falling on your head, but even when Chi Cheng was on the bass, I always just found the bass parts to be functional but never with any particular flair. They fit alongside Stephen's parts and that was it. I'd love to hear them play with Ryan Martinie on the bass (with a Warwick Thumb rather than those weak-sounding Foderas he's playing at the moment). He wouldn't have to go full Mudvayne, rather just do enough to get some great growling bass tone and presence on the tracks.

RonC started following Can this neck be repaired?
-
It looks like a clean crack with no wood missing. Just pull the strings off so the crack won't crack any further. It's not a difficult repair so it sure is economical to repair it.
-
We are you based @Aygotaygo as there should be someone around willing to help you or fix it for you?
-
If it's uneconomical to repair by a tech, you won't lose anything by trying yourself. I'm sure you'd find a good youtube video and get a few clamps from a hardware shop or B&Q, or somewhere thar repairs furniture. It's just wood. Removing the string tension will stop it getting bigger before the repair.

Your oldest and newest bass playing photos
StingRayBoy42 replied to BigRedX's topic in General Discussion
Oldest: No Fat On A Turkey 6th August 1991 - the day I first picked up a Bass. (My brother's Hohner Jack... I had to lie and tell him someone else was playing Bass - he'd lend it to a stranger but not to me. Cheers, mate.) We thought we were the next Stone Roses... we were not. Newest: Depping with Manchester Ska Foundation last month - joined the audience for "One Step Beyond" Playing the Sterling - not my first choice for ska, just fancied a change! -

I do agree Tom, but without the original packaging, I'd be concerned about sending this out into courier world. I also much prefer potential buyers to confirm they are happy with the item in person before they purchase. However, if a buyer would be prepared to arrange collection by their preferred courier I could source appropriate packaging.
