  1. Past hour
  2. I wonder how’ll they’ll reposition it?
  3. Thought you was retired! lol.
  4. I hope G&L get helped out and their staff all get their jobs back. I really rate their stuff and have a couple of Tributes that I love. Agree their marketing and brand positioning is about 30 years behind where it should be though. I'd love to pick up a Japanese ASAT bass - I passed on one a couple of years back and kick myself about it. It seems I'm in a minority here, but.....not only do I tolerate the G&L headstock, I really like it (in a 4 string. The 5er looks weird, but that's what you get for adding a pointless extra string).
  5. Up for sale is my Wilkes fretless. I was after one of these for a long time as I used to gravitate towards them at the Bass Centre in the mid-eighties. Sadly, I have to trim back and it's always six strings and fretlesses that go to the block first. It's a fabulous sounding and great playing fretless. Extremely well made with a dark ebony board with lines, super stiff maple neck and a Honduran mahogany body. This is a bass with a lot of deep end and sustain. The pickup in the P sweet spot is unusual; it's a Schaller Bassbucker and has a very hot output and (as mentioned before) a tonne of low end. Apparently these pickups used to go into the early Carl Thompson basses. These pickups sound very full and punchy. They also have a useful coil split switch which sets the bucker to single coil mode (for those moments when you want a bit less beef...there is a lot of beef on offer here). Schaller hardware completes the bass and is rock solid. Condition is pretty good given the age. The headstock, neck and board are in great nick while the body has a few dings but no missing finish. Looks pretty mean in it's black plumage. The piezo slap plates work and add more attack if you were inclined to hit this bass with a thumb. The controls are vol/tone and piezo mix. I've found the piezo mix knob also works as a presence knob. It sounds great. I've also added a YT clip of a spin at Dean Town for laffs...it's punchy! Comes with a gigbag. Not able to ship I think but happy to meet up
  6. Ive had it on very good authority that these are going to have an RRP of between £3499 and £3799 due to Rosetti putting their prices up. For that reason I am very much out, thats an insane price for these "S" version basses which presumably wont have the stereo circuit or binding like their "standard" counterparts
  7. Lovely! I have an identical plum one.... proper US NS2 vibes with these.... GLWTS!
  8. Sure! - 34" scale - 19mm spacing at the bridge - No idea of the weight at the moment, so I'll have to weigh it when I get home, but for now I can say that the bass feels very well balanced on a strap. 😉 Kind regards, Don
  9. First up - I hope you're enjoying having a breather on your hols, it sounds like you need it. Hope you're OK too as you mentioned that you weren't in your first post. Band things are stressful at times and can be annoying, but ultimately there are a lot of things more important in life, so I hope you're switching off and recharging. It's hard to say whether you've over reacted without knowing more about your situation, the type of person the singer is and what they're going through. If it's constant drama and he's hard to work with then I can understand your reaction. However, if everything is normally a happy ship and his message is out of the blue then I'd have said you slightly over reacted. It's tough to call, but the line about 'before it comes out and you hear from other people' makes it sound like he's going through something huge. If it's rocking his life, his family and work, then the band and your holiday is low on his list of considerations, so it's understandable that he's struggled to find time to chat given what he's potentially going through. I'd have just said something along the lines of 'guys, I'm off on hols. Can we find a date to chat when I'm back? I need a break so I'm muting notifications for now but will be back on xxxx' and then go from there. I don't know the guy, so can't say for sure, but if it were me and someone left the band chat because I wasn't communicating properly then I'd be hesitant to reach out to them. My initial thought would be 'bugger, I've annoyed them' so I'd give them some space. If you add on what he's potentially dealing with then maybe he's just retreating into himself?
  10. or the hofner wooden version!
  11. Trying to find a replacement for a broken plastic horn flare. (Eminence APT80-3) The spec changed at some point and the thread is now internal as opposed to external on the one I ordered from DJ Supplies which has just arrived! 🤦🏽‍♂️ Broken flare is glued back together for now but a new one would be preferable.
  12. One of the first Czech made Spectors that is arguably the closest one can get to the NS2 spec without quite the wallet-twitching cost. This is finished in a plum colour which can look quite different depending on the lighting. It has solid flamed maple wings. Weight is 4.05kg This has been fitted with an LHZ preamp for the full NS2 HAZ effect. The original EMG BTC preamp is included. Condition is excellent. Very minor signs of wear. No chips or dings. Plays and sounds fantastic. Includes a Spector hard case in great condition. Includes a Spector branded comfort strap. Trial and collection preferred but happy to discuss courier options. These CRFM rarely appear for sale. I’ve owned many Euro and NS2 Spectors and this is the last one to go.

  14. Quite clearly says £5600 in the title!
  15. ***PRICE DROP NOW £1300*** 2010 US Stingray, 2EQ, CAR with rosewood board. One of the limited edition 133 basses, full fat ‘ray but with a soft gig bag case instead of a hard shell job. This is in excellent condition with one very minor ding on the top edge, and the pickguard is quite marked but obviously easily replaceable. Comes with a Hipshot D-tuner (long key though instead of short… doh), if you want the original tuner key I’ll chuck it in. I’ve also replaced the pickup with a Nordstrand MM4.2, which sounds flippin’ great. She’s quite heavy (10lb) but with a decent wide strap it feels ok. ***EDIT*** now comes with the option of a Warwick Rockbass semi-rigid case - photos added. Loathe to post this but can at buyer’s (insured) expense, or can meet in person at either Portsmouth, Southsea, Southampton or Lymington (I’m on the I.O.W.)

  16. Yeah, it’s a whole new experience. Mostly wonderful, frequently revelatory, but occasionally puzzling..! The hiss at the end of In the Cage. The remixed vocals on ‘32 Doors’ which totally changes the harmonic centre of the chorus. The completely MIA low synth swoop on ‘…burn it to ash’ on Back in NYC. There’s some strange choices. Otherwise… great.
  17. These look appealing; it just goes to show that white pickup covers can work when you co-ordinate them with the rest of the instrument. £400-450 for the Plus, I reckon, going by another HB "signature instrument with quality appointments" guitar that I bought recently. Tempting... not that I need another Jazz, but you all know what it's like 😄
  18. An occasional charity gig is fine if nothing else on and reasonably local (within e.g. 30 mins drive), but not as a regular occurrence. Re: band member availability, sadly any really decent musicians are likely to be in 1 or more other bands. If only doing 1 or 2 gigs a month it should be possible to schedule for each in advance with shared diaries. If any 1 band is doing every weekend or similar then problems will arise with clashes/availability, unless you use regular and trusted deps.
  19. I know you mention that you've tried Facebook Groups - have you tried these two? https://www.facebook.com/groups/133927049955561 and https://www.facebook.com/groups/567722186694185 both Essex based and cover band specific.
  20. Fender Rumble Stage 800 Combo £650, no exchanges In very good condition and in perfect working order. Comes with original MGT4 footswitch, GTX-7 footswitch (shipped with the Fender Mustang GTX100 guitar combo, and available separately, but works great with this Rumble and a significant upgrade to the MGT4), soft Fender cover (with a little wear round the bottom, but these covers are pretty cheap!), original box and packaging. Genuine reason for selling as I have been ampless and using digital modellers for over a year now and it’s time to declutter! Collection preferred but can deliver around the Crawley area (within reason) for £10 for petrol and time. Happy for buyer to arrange own courier. https://uk.fender.com/products/rumble-stage-800
  21. I don't really know what it's like trying to get into a covers band but for an originals band this would be a bit of a red flag, as bands tend to like their musicians to be fairly focused on the style of music they want to play. Certainly when I have auditioned musicians who say they like a very range of music it turns out they might say they like everything, but they have little understanding of the specifics of many genres outside of blues-based rock music and ultimately are unsuitable for the band. If you really do like (and have a good understanding of) a wide variety of genres I would suggest that you do a separate advert for each one rather than trying to lump everything together in a single one, as it has the tendency to make you look unfocused rather than versatile.
  22. Hence my comment re sandpaper and oil earlier. Yes, Bravewood (and Limelight) do instruments that feel very authentic to play, whereas to my mind Fender rarely manage that. I've owned Fender relic instruments ranging from the Flea Jazz to the Jaco Artist (the now stupidly expensive Custom Shop Model) to a Masterbuilt '55, I've never owned a Fender relic that felt like a 60's instrument. Whether this is due to the large scale manufacturing processes of even the small run/niche instruments, to complex business strategy ("we mustn't build new instruments that devalue the 60's instruments on which our legacy is largely built...."), or simply poor luck on my part I'm not sure, because in the grand scheme of things it's really not hard to take a new neck and make if feel like it's been played every day since 1962. Yes, there is mojo in playing a necj that has actually been played every day since '62, but it can be done a whole lot cheaper, and I suspect that in a blind test, few people would be able to distinguish between the real thing worth close to £10k and a well crafted relic worth less than £1k. If I had the money to spare, it goes without saying I'd have a '55 Precision and a '62 Precision (again). But they would be more as pleasurable investments than as instruments
  23. Apologies the late responses to PMs. I’ve been travelling back from a wedding this weekend. I’ll try to get to the PMs later tonight.
  24. How do we feel about bands that don’t allow/like you to be in other bands? I get it but if said band does 2 gigs a month on average and one band member has “Martini Availability” ("Any time, any place, anywhere… that’s Martini”), that really puts a constraint on that member. Also hypothetically, and this is an endless debate we’ve had many time, what if said band does rather a lot of charity fundraisers without getting paid or expenses. I’ve played a lot of Charity Fundraisers in the past for the likes of British Heart Foundation, Cystic Fibrosis Trust and they pay full function band prices but what we’re talking here is 50 miles each way to play a gig for a small local cause that you’ve no connection with other than the guys in the band are connected to it in some way. IMO, this needs to be something discussed up front before accepting any offer to join.
