I don't think it needs a refret. I replaced the pre-amp with a very cheap one last year which isn't fantastic, but the bass is only worth a hundred quid at most. I'm better off moving on to a better new bass. I did put Gotoh machine heads on it which I'd probably fit to a replacement Ibanez.

Retired ? Due to fret wear ? If you like the bass and there's not a serious neck issue then get a refret. Preferably in SS.

Initially I found him intolerable and typically clickbaity as is typical with modern social media. However after listening to him a bit and some back story, he seems very humble, and a working class lad with no pretentiousness, also he says what he thinks without any brown nosing. I'd happily have a beer with him.

Well, more not gibsons when it comes to twin tone and volume controls, fender have their own crazy ideas.

I wonder if it would sound better stacked the other way 'round? Sat above the two ten it might have less floor effect. The two ten should have a tighter sound anyway.

@Silky999 just received the graphite neck today, so now the build starts in earnest. Within a week or two we'll hopefully have a complete instrument. It's similar to auto tune on vocals. Used on every recording - then when you see a real singer they don't meet expectations. I think we may already have covered bass players who can play several complex tunes at home in the bedroom along to the recordings, but can't play at a simple blues jam.

Update, I took the combo over to a mates house this afternoon, the always lovely @Tmg, with the intention of swapping out the preamp valves, and the amp was not making any strange noises at his place, nor his place of work around the corner, which he assures me has dodgy electrical wiring. We even set it up right next to an old tower PC running 3 monitors and could not get any unhealthy noises out of it. And once back home it was still behaving itself. So, with the lack of interest when I had it up for sale last year for months, plus a possible intermittent issue (although the only place this has happened was at Ainsleys' place as discussed in the original post) I think I might as well hang onto it as it really does sound glorious especially when cranked up. In the words of my late granddad, Well, bugger me, boy.

I tried it today. The first strange thing was my Kaka ukulele bass just doesn't play nice with the AH300. There's a high pitched interference that sounds a bit like RF interference. My other instruments don't do this, so I'm thinking it must be the Kala's pre-amp circuits. Anyway, I switched to my Squier Jazz which is a much better choice anyway. I actually didn't like the 15" on its own much, the sound was too muddy and felt like it was reacting slowly. I loved the sound of the 2x10" cabinet on its own though. That's definitely the one to take.

And my contribution this month: Mystic whiskey with a quite oriental side effect : 3rd take, played on my LTD B4-JR 28.5" scale length, tenor bass, tuned in A standard tuning (as in the upper 4 strings of a 6 string bass in regular B standard tuning), directly into my handheld Zoom H4n recorder, and only edited through a simple Wav editor.

I bought one of these recently. Amazing little tool for the money, but the main use I had for it straight away was an octave effect, and despite all of the other effects and blocks being quite decent for bass, the 'Octa' effect's tracking was too scatty to be useable. I'll save up for a HX Stomp now I think, which would also do everything this does, other than the battery, so I returned it the next day. I particularly liked the Aguilar and SVT NAM captures, I thought they sounded excellent. Unless octave is important to you, these are a great little device if it fits your needs.

Every year I promise my wife 'no more new basses and no more new gear'. Every year I fail. But I'm weak you see. And I'm retired and it rains a lot in Cornwall. Woe is me I shall go and disembowel myself 😔 Just get myself another bass before I do.
