  2. I have a rule of thumb that I tell to every player: If you can't hear yourselves playing, turn all volumes down. Most are dubitative until they do it. And never forget that you first have to match your sound level to the acoustic instrument(s) in the band.
  3. You could always get a bypass switch fitted. Easy enough for a techie to do.
  4. I've recently changed my main Status S2 from Bass Centre Elites to GHS Stainless Steels. The bass sounds very good on these, but there's more tension than the previous Elites nickels. They've only done one gig so far, so longevity is yet to be seen. The nickel Elites usually only do 3-4 gigs before needing to be changed. I wish Elixir did a 30-90 DBE set - I usually get 30-40 gigs out of the 40-95 gauge Elixirs on my Jazz.
  5. This is the module pickup I designed This is underneath the top cover., The top cover fastens to the guitar body and is permanent. The clip at bottom right is a holder for a five pin pogo connector. This is the pickup frame, this connects to the top cover. You can see the three guide and screw sections that match above. The pogo connector at the bottom, connects to a pogo connector at the top. This then connects to the wiring loom. This is a generic piece and takes any pickup. This is a specific sledge for a Type Humbucker. The raised circular sections connect to the humbucker bottom plate. The four circular holes near them are needed to attach the humbucker bottom plate back to the humbucker. Every sodding humbucker is different so it needs a different bottom plate. The three holes that are slightly recessed are the adjustment screws to raise and lower the humbucker,. I note that the bottom left appears to be missing the through hole it should have Here's a bottom plate for a Fender lipstick pickup. The only features that carry over are the three cut outs around the edge and the three recessed screws for raising and lowering the pickup. The idea was to have a standard top cover and pickup frame and only the bottom would change depending on the pickup. I got this working but not sure if it will make it into this guitar or bass. Rob
  6. I have a cheese grater called "AGHyafeckinbastid!"
  7. Just come across this thread. What a wonderful ad for the friendship and collegiality that characterises the best of Basschat. Makes me proud to be a part of it.
  8. Just another summers day in Scotland. Dave
  9. Yep, love an Overwater.
  10. At least people will be inside watching the bands. That's a lot of rain. Dave
  11. Its a pretty little thing, I played a Roscoe fretless with the Diamond wood (I think?) fingerboard many years ago, sounded great, no funds to make it come home with me at the time though. Hope you can get used to the 18mm spacing.
  12. I have to confess to being a bit of a bounce around bassist...
  13. I’m a bass player with a lead guitarist’s ego. Our guitarist hangs back like a bass player. We’re a strange lot, tbf
  14. Glad you could find a solution to make it work for you, especially with the flats. I love the sound of a Bass VI, I tried a friend's custom model that is based on the fender design but large mitts and sausage fingers don't like the close string spacing!
  15. You can pre-order on Andertons, I've always wanted to try a Bongo, so weird looking ..
  16. I exaggerate a bit, but we can get a lot of rain here. Flooding is awful, even if it only damages property.
  17. Can't believe nobody has mentioned this yet: https://www.cashconverters.co.uk/shop/music-tv--video/musical-instruments/guitars--string-instruments/bass-guitar/054400261222 Worth sending a cheeky offer.
  18. I took one of those HILS Next Bass 5-strings as a part exchange a few weeks ago. Mine had a non standard preamp, but it definitely had a serious punch. Another highly recommended bass for the money. Not quite as compact and svelte as the Space 4/5, though.
  19. Regarding the pricing if USA EBMM basses v the import ranges ect, it's a complicated situation. So much is about marketing rather than what you are actually getting for your money. Manufacturers are becoming more aware that part of what gives their instruments value in the minds of their potential customers is charging a high price for them. Putting up the price can actually attract punters to buy your goods because of the new way they perceive them. It's all about how you present the package. EBMM tweaked the Stingray into being the Stingray Special and simultaneously put about another 30-odd percent on the price. They wanted to start putting their USA-made instruments in a different marketplace and the redesign gave them the perfect excuse.
  20. Print off this quoted post, hand it round to those that need their "penny drop moment". If the penny doesn't drop, or if there's no penny there, wave goodbye. [Don't say "goodbye", they won't hear you.]
  21. @police squad You did exactly the right thing there by walking off. I do wonder why some bands have three 'guitards' and that wall of hateful guitar noise. It really is just a row. We often ask audiences near the start of the gig if it's too loud for them and jokingly suggest that anyone that finds it too loud should write us a note on a £20 note. But joking aside, we do genuinely ask the question. We want to keep things down to acceptable levels and make it comfortable for everyone. When you get to the point where everyone is having to turn up to be able to hear themselves, that's the time to have a serious conversation. I've seen plenty of amateur bands where even I had to leave the building because I couldn't stand the noise levels.
  22. Just thought this would be the perfect place for people who are interested in our pedals to ask questions or discuss settings. Thanks!
  23. Was watching some YT and happened upon this Anderton video where they are playing HILS basses (never heard of them). About 15 minutes in they are playing a short scale, passive, headless bass with a humbucker and they cost £499. Would have though it would be perfect for travel :
  24. Here's Tim Lefebvre's settings on the Taylor Shift II if anyone is interested!
  25. Thought I'd update this thread with my outcome! I eventually bought a Hagstrom 8 string to get me by and did recordings and gigs with it (see video). However this week I've eventually tracked down and bought a 12er, so it will be brought into service asap! 8 string. 12 string
