dave_bass5 started following Chorus, What Songs Need It

Ive always liked Chorus on bass, in the right songs, but recently I rediscovered phaser, and, oh my.........😂 Still got a Boss CB3 at home, and have had various Chorus pedals over the year, but now I use phaser in a lot of songs that I really shouldn't 😇

Brain fart! I've used too much thoughts to be much good for goodly looking at things and stuff this afternoon. (Power Automate can suck it though) Looks like it's still there on the website, so they're probably sat in a container somewhere, waiting to return. An email to SBMM might be an idea? https://intl.sterlingbymusicman.com/collections/stingray-sub-series-basses/products/stingray-ray4?variant=31560137441395

After several months of waiting, the Iron Ether Subterranea has finally arrived. Described by Taylor at Iron Ether as a, ‘multi-timbral analog synthesizer and octave pedal’ it acts as an oscillator section for a great analogue synth setup when paired with an envelope filter. These were discontinued a few years ago but recently brought back for a limited production run. Hopefully they’ll be added back to the regular production line. It’s a great analogue synth pedal. https://on.soundcloud.com/CpmKMabzrIOQzEnS99 https://on.soundcloud.com/U5G8C0THhHiAINPoEz https://on.soundcloud.com/HmamFI3dmsihHflhpM https://on.soundcloud.com/aEdvwY6QUt0qnNTR8M

I have something very special in my possesion that I may potentially sell or trade. It's a lefty 1978 fender precision bass, all completely original with original case and labels booklets, even the original key. The bass was owned by Ed cosens who was the bass player for reverend and the makers. He owned it for 20 years, and bought from wunjo guitars around 2005. It was used to record the album "state of things" and all his solo stuff. Toured all over the world with it. Played it at Wembley with Oasis and kasabian. It's been on jonathan Ross, jools holland, v festival and loads of others. I have photos of him playing it, its on loads of YouTube videos, I even have a video of him playing it for me before sending it to me, aswell as a letter from him. It's even got the same strings on it from when he bought it 20 years ago, which means they are the very same strings that recorded the albums. It was something I planned to keep forever, as it's not often you see such a story connected to a bass, but being a lefty bass it is super weird to play, I was going to reverse string it, but it seems such a shame to do that.

warmnotes started following String through short scale strings

Had the same set of TI jazz caflats on my squier vista musicmaster for 18 years and I feel like a change. It's a string through body and the TI flats are a good fit as they have a winding length of 32". Any recommendations for replacement medium scale strings? Preferably something with a bit more tension than the thomastiks. Interested in flat and round wounds. Thanks

I took my wife and daughter to see Wednesday 13 at the Tivoli in Buckley. Absolutely no my things but they put on a good show. The In-House sound is atrocious though. The bass player's Stingray was unrecognisable as such. Loads of mud and zero tone. The sound is always bad at the venue.

Cheapest Fender or most expensive Squier?

I'd get a secondhand Fender player series -

Personally, I'd go for TI Jazz Flats (JF324) - gauges are: 43, 56, 70 and 106. Many find the string to have low tension/high compliance - this is something that I find attractive, though others may not.

Thanks Bill, good to know.

Chatters! I’ve just picked up a lovely Sandberg Florence short scale bass. I have a question about string gauge. They come with 40-100 which for me is too light for a standard scale bass. Can anyone advise what string gauge I should go up to? I’m looking at flats if that makes a difference. TYIA Matt

1. What amp is it? 2. What kind of sound are you trying to achieve? 3. What EQ does the amp have?

Depends entirely on the circuitry of the pre-amp and power-amp sections. For solid state amps generally you want the gain as high as possible without introducing distortion and then adjust the master volume to give you the overall level you need. For amps with a valve pre-amp and solid state (or Class D) power amp the gain control will usually also act as a drive control. To get the right balance you really need to set it up in the band context as IME bass guitar can nearly always do with a bit more dirt in the mix than you would be comfortable with when playing solo. Have a listen to some isolated bass tracks to see what I mean. They are always more distorted than you would imagine from the overall mix. For all valve amps it's almost entirely down to taste, provided that you haven't got the settings introducing too much noise. Use your ears to get a sound you like not the numbers on the controls.

The foam has long since rotted and I can’t remember what it sounded like before. This bass has been in my brothers wardrobe for the last 20 odd years 😂. And Headlessbassist made me realise that it WAS Marcus Miller that I saw resting on the pup cover! Saw him at Koko in London last month! 😂

I saw Lita Ford at KK's Steel Mill in Wolverhampton two weeks ago. She did her cover of the duet she did with Ozzy back in the day called If I Close My Eyes Forever the day after Ozzy died to a mainly West Midlands audience, that was emotional. Overall Lita still rocks and she rocks her red leather catsuit but he superpower seems to be spinning about 50 minutes of material out to 90 minutes. The highlight of the evening was her being joined on stage by Vixen to perform an all girls rendition of an old Runaways number. Vixen as a support band were very impressive and Ms Julia Lage (Mr R Kotzen's "other 'alf") on bass is quite the performer. Vixen is one of those bands from back in the day that has just one original member (the drummer) but it was good entertainment executed very well indeed.
