  6. Just to be clear the price I am asking is £3000. That being said I am sure anyone who might have an interest in a Bass of this quality and condition would drop me a message to negotiate.
  7. Ah thanks. That makes sense. I've never had an expensive enough bass to need one. 😆
  8. Very handsome OLP MM5 five-string natural-finish passive Stingray-alike (some dispute online as to whether these were licensed by Ernie Ball Music Man or simply that the headstock shape was). It’s in pretty good nick (see pix for some very minor dings and wear, especially top of headstock) and definitely does the Ray thing, from clank to warm P-bassish. These were generally considereed at least as good as - if not better than - the first Sterling S.U.B. entry-level Stingrays that were around five years ago. I bought it a couple of years ago to experiment with fivers and, though I had none of the common issues with the transition from four to five strings, I’ve really had no need for the B, so it seems to be a bit wasted on my wall. I’ve got a Sterling Joe Dart Signature one-knob to scratch my passive Stingray itch anyway (and I’m really loving it!). If I feel the need to drop from low E, I’ll possibly add a Drop D tuner. String spacing at the bridge is a rather tight, but still very playable, 17mm. Nut width is 44mm. The neck finish is shiny - I suppose it’s gloss, but not at all sticky. Weight is a comfortable, but not lightweight, 4.5 Kg (9lb 14oz), there’s no neck dive and it’s fine on strap or lap. Currently wearing Ernie Ball Slinky roundss (the bass – not me!). I'm not really after trades, but I might be tempted by a good quality preamp/di pedal, eg MXR or a Sansamp; or even a Radial Tonebone, with any financial adjustments either way. I have a range of suitable boxes, so I'm happy to post at buyer's cost. I might have a gigbag somewhere to throw in. If you'd prefer to collect, I'm in Mapperley, Nottingham, or I'm happy to meet up within 50 miles of here.

  16. Over the years, I've video reviewed or tried out pretty much the entire EBS range, sadly not a Fafner! I think in terms of clean tone, they may be quite similar, but the Fafner II does have a separate drive preamp' section wheras the 802 does not. The EBS MicroBass III takes those elements from the 2 channel Fafner and squeezes those in to a pedal, so I would assume that having an 802 and MicroBass III would do just the right amount of damage. I do really rate the MB3 too. {edit} then I scrolled back up to the top of the post and reminded myself you have the Fafner I, so, in that case, I'd ponder that the 802 can "get" the Fafner tone along with all the other extras on board. I have to say, I love the two semi-parametrics in the pre, rather than just the one on many amplifers. (My favourite amplifer has 4 making it happy with every bass a throw at it)
  17. Yes, me too. I have a 34” scale Sigma ABG and have the same issue of being 2 frets sharp if I’m not concentrating. The answer for me has just been practice and regular use at our weekly village guitar club where I back local singer - songwriters. I’m usually doing a mixture of playing by ear and watching their hands as I don’t know the songs so it takes my mind off focussing on myself and I’ve just got used to it over time. I doubt a short scale would give me the tone & volume I need acoustically.
  18. They strike me as a sort of bastárdised Bellowhead/Fisherman's Friends mashup without the appeal or the ability of either. And they make for quite horrifying reading.
  19. Price drop to £515. Same awesome bass, new improved price! Happy to answer any questions.
  20. You can only try, I'm in my 70's & would not be playing without the Torzal....best Bernard
  21. That 802 looks amazing, much of a difference to the old Fafner do you think?
  22. This argument is adding nothing to the topic. If you wish to continue the frank exchange of views, please do so via PMs.
  23. For IEMs, I prefer to have a limiter in the chain somewhere before noise hits my ears too, especially useful for those bands that get louder and louder as the night goes on! Your ears will thank you!
