  2. When I used to do a double bass + vocal duo, my favourite quick and dirty solution for open mic type situations (where typically PA is tops only) was to wrap whatever vocal mic they had in a bit of towel and tuck it down the back of the tailpiece - I'd seen other people advocate for wrapping a 57 in foam and tucking it between the legs of the bridge, but that approach takes a little more care getting the fit right.
  3. I don tic the drums, other than the kick. We do place a small digital recorder close to the kit, this is for the IEM mixes and recording only, not FOH. Problem is, even that picks up his monitor, so gets quite a lot of the mix as well. That's really not a big deal though. He point blank reuses to use Headphones or IEM's and will never budge. Unfortunately he owns the monitors so it's not like I could 'forget' to bring them to the gig.
  4. Ah well, no worries, free bumpology anyways
  5. Close mic the drums (as close to the skin as you can get) and gate the hell out of them to control the mush. For most of our gigs, mic ‘ing the drums is a bit overkill for front of house but essential for IEM’s and our drummer definitely plays better and more consistently on IEM’s. Quite often his drum mic’s are not in the front of house mix, save for a well eq’d and gated bass drum.
  6. I might be in the minority as a PA owner but i don't actually have an SM58 in my collection, the mic's I've got available are a mix of mics belonging to bandmates (who also part own the PA) and the ones I've bought for recording over the years. I don't sing myself and if i did I'd probably buy anything except the SM58 (I just like being different/difficult) Matt
  7. My photo from 2008 - different tuners too
  8. Thank you dude, I appreciate the bump. It is awesome, like all ACGs, and it wouldn't be going if I wasn't planning an immediate replacement.
  9. I can switch to 4 as well without too much trouble, but I can't do a set with any of my bands with a 4 string bass, so if I took a 4 string bass to a gig I would also need to take a 5 string, and then what is the point. So I buy 4 strings, end up not playing them and then sell them. Repeat cycle!
  10. These seem to be getting a bit rarer but despite chasing one of these for years after selling my first i think i need to acknowledge my back needs some lighter weight gear. Here we have a USA made SVT III which preceded the current 3pro's. This one has the much famed SVT IIP preamp couples with a big old led sled solid state power amp. 3 x 12AX7's give it a nice throaty growl but there is no full on valve distortion here just a nice old school type roar. Is missing one slider cap but can still be changed with a plectrum - not that i use the graphic EQ anyway. A few of the pots could do with a blast of deoxit as the amp has been set at my fave EQ and never really changed. I dont have a rack case or anything so ideally its collection from Bolton only but could meet within reason. Possibly consider a part ex for an Ashdown Little Bastard/CTM30 Pics to follow asap

  11. Trampled Underfoot - Led Zeppelin
  12. All sorted for gear I'm afraid. If anything I'm trying to thin the herd down
  13. What a relief! Your bank balance can finally sleep soundly@Quatschmacher
  14. I'd find that a handy feature too. I'm impressed with folks like @40hz who can easily switch between the two. I have to stop and think for a moment whenever I have to do that.
  15. This is not a basschat.co.uk event so not sure if it counts (looks like Janek has decided to steal the Bass Bash name from you lot though!) But is anyone else going to this? Give me a shout if anyone is going and fancies meeting for a beer after.
  16. Thanks so much everybody. Last I heard Boss had abruptly discontinued the Katana headphones amp. This must be a new version, I assume. My benchmark in terms of sound quality is my old Korg Pandora PX4. That sounded so good and was so useful, but is unfortunately now so knackered after years of heavy use. Probably the best money I have ever spent. Does the Boss have the facility to control the volume of the music you are playing along to like you can on the NUX? All I want is to be able to pick up my handy bass and have quick faff-free session playing along to backing tracks ect.
  17. I’m heading to a bass masterclass next month with Janek Gwizdala and Ian Allison. My first time going to something like this, so I’m kind of excited and curious to hear other people's experiences. If you’ve been to a masterclass before, what was it like? Did you come away with anything unexpected? Any advice on how to get the most out of the experience? Would be great to hear any tips, reflections, or stories—especially if you’ve seen JG or IA live before (they seem very different stylistically so I'm hoping that might bring up some interesting discussions).
  18. Hi This is the first Sandberg I bought. Had from new since 2018, bought from GuitarGuitar in Epsom. It plays superbly well in my opinion and also has all the tonal scope of the Sandberg pre-amp, or not if you pull out the Volume knob and go passive. Reason for sale, I don't use it and it seriously deserves to be played I can 'post' at your expense. Alternatively, come and collect or meet at a mutually convenient location.
  19. I would guess you want cardioid (to get the full sound including any fingerboard slapping and in case they move around a bit), not supercardioid unless they are rooted to the spot or the mic can be well back (unlikely). So the SM58 Beta would be out. Other than that, I don't know enough to help. A vanilla SM58 would do it well enough even if there are better options.
  20. Hi. Here you go (from the Gator site)... Length 12.50" Width 19.00" Height 9.00" Cheers!
  21. Thanks, Terry – much appreciated, mate. It's too good to be a backup!
  22. Picked this up off eBay a couple of months ago because I fancied a Jazz - turns out I just don’t get on with them! In as good condition as a factory road worn instrument can be, professionally set up with medium gauge D’Addario nickel roundwounds and Fender gig bag included. Collection from Haywards Heath preferred, but I’m willing to travel for a meet up within reason. Would entertain trades for a Precision of similar value, or a Vintera II/JMJ Mustang. Better photos to come if/when the sun comes out.
