  2. I can just see Matt sitting on top of the car with strings through the window to the steering wheel and the car loaded with gear.
  3. Can You Dig It? - Mock Turtles
  4. I saw what you did there 😎
  5. I’m after a booster pedal that’ll enable bass solos to stand out more that’s the same size as the TC Electronic Mini Spark but has an EQ setting. Anyone know if this’d work? I don’t want to buy one and potentially have to return it. Anyone have recommendations too? https://aguilaramp.com/en-int/products/db316-mid-eq-pedal?srsltid=AfmBOorh-gPs47Ycmu7DJ2-jhDdAQaa4ttBQl9RLKLQ9FkMV7pM3fZwt
  6. I wish I were the same Bill, though I do have a bass at the moment that I bought new in 2015 which I’ll never sell (unless things determine otherwise of course).
  7. Here’s my trusty, and very capable combo up for sale. Owned by me from new, with cover. Extension cab now sold. Gigged plenty, but both still in immaculate condition, and never pushed hard. This has been a quality amp for me and has never let me down. No more live playing for me anymore so it needs to go to a new home. Planning on downsizing home n the near future so clearing out unnecessary stuff now. These will be collect only from sunny West Yorkshire as I have nothing to ship them in, but you’d be welcome to come and try it out…..and I’ll have the kettle on! Combo comes complete with unused foot switch. Any questions just ask.

  8. Wireless kits imo are essential if doing the sound yourself, at least for one member of the band.

  13. Dont try and play with others immediately tho. Lock urself away in ur room and learn the fingerboard. A sure fire way to get enthused is to play along to ur fav tunes/bands.. in front of the mirror if you need to.. we've all done it, its grt fun and you learn pretty quick.
  14. Lovely! I thought you only played spectors.
  15. Thanks for all the replies. It's good to get a balanced view on this. My stance is option 2 i.e. that we should sound check for the best possible sound. What I didn't mention in the original post because it would be clear I was biased one way was the following issues that have occurred: 1. Every gig we have at least one person come up to us to say something was too loud or too quiet. This is either between sets or at the end of the gig. The last gig someone said they could hear me for once. It's all a bit soul destroying after the gig is finished to find it didn't sound great! 2. We had one gig where we were about to start, the singer raised the fader on the mixer for the vocals and keys and there was deafening feedback for 10 seconds... then a few minutes of fumbling around trying to find the source. 3. During the last gig, there was this awful delay effect on the vocals that was very loud, and quite long so it sounded a mess. I don't think the singer was aware as he had only heard what was coming through his monitor which I can only assume had no effects on it. 4. Also during the last gig, people at the end said it was too loud apparently. The solution offered was that we turn down a bit for the next gig... but compared to what? How will we remember what volume we were at? I have an active bass, so it has a volume control, bass, mid and treble controls, the amp has a gain control, eq controls and a master volume. There's no way I'm going to be able to remember what level I had the bass at. 5. I usually stand at the back, next to the drums, behind a keyboard and guitar amp. I have no monitor so can only hear the main vocals through front of house. It is impossible for me to know if I am too quiet or too loud from this position. It sounds pretty thunderous from where I'm standing next to the amp, but out front, it doesn't sound loud at all. I've no idea how loud it sounds in comparison to everything else. As a generalisation, it seems the people here saying a sound check is not needed are the ones who are very confident with using a PA, perhaps have all intruments going through the PA and may have a person doing the sound. None of that applies to our band. I must say that I very much like everyone in the band and don't want to cause any issues. If the majority don't want to sound check (I appear to be the only one that thinks it's a good idea) then that's fine. You've all given me a few ideas about what else to try. I have a wireless system, so can have a wander during the first song (not sure if that's any more professional looking though). As everyone is not going through the PA, this will be reliant on individuals adjusting levels when directed to. We also have a few people who come down that we could ask to do "sound" (i.e. tell us who needs to go up or down). However, that means trusting someone else's abilities/opinion. Alternatively, we just do nothing different and continue to have sound issues at every gig!
  16. Does anyone have the mp3s? I'd be happy to send a few bucks your way...
  17. This is a beautiful bass and Matt is an absolute gem.

  19. Hi, On an ordering page, I'm seeing a neck and a bridge model for the Big Split, however, with being an internally hum cancelling pickup, I don't understand why there would be more than one available, unless it's coil wind, volume etc.... Does anyone know. Intended installation would be Bridge, Mid, and Neck, all up against eachother, with Dingwall type wiring. I.e. Bridge, Bridge + Neck in Parallel (Jazz), Bridge plus middle in Parallel (MM), and Neck in series (Psuedo P Bass) and Bridge (Parallel) + Neck (series) for PJ tones.
  20. Same here (year and model), even though I don't play 4s any more except the odd open mic night when I take it for a run out.
  21. Can't believe this hasn't been snapped up yet!! These are excellent basses. I've had one and also the much more expensive Music Man version. To be honest there wasn't that much difference in terms of playability and the sounds were slightly different but IMHO equally good. In fact, there are some Talkbass members who prefer the 'voice' of the SBMM. AND I think the black/tort combo really looks the business. Add to that the lightweight tuners to counterbalance the very light body weight of this one (mine was heavier)... If I had the spare cash right now I'd be buying this. GLWTS.
  22. I've been with my current bass for 47 years Bill, but over that period, have owned around another 1965! 😂
  23. Very much considering selling my QC, if I can get the right price. I use a patch with a compressor, drive, delay and a phaser for most live stuff I do and then a patch that I use fro practice. It does seem crazy to me that I'm using so little of its potential. It does sound amazing though but I watched the IMA video and some of the things he mentioned were things I felt about the QC.
  24. Probably to have as a 4ohm pair. When I’ve used mine together they are much more than the sum of their parts 🙂
  25. Bought this a few weeks ago for a gig I had at new year as a last minute replacement for my fuzz that died. Since got my usual fuzz repaired so this isn’t needed. Pretty much brand new except Velcro on the back. Price includes shipping in the UK, cheers!
