What are your irrational prejudices? I have some bonkers ones...

Yep - radio first. All the diodes down my left side are aching. -
Played in Sevenoaks on Saturday. My new amp had developed a fault and its replacement didn’t arrive on time. As such for the first time ever I had to go straight to the PA and use in ears. The gig went very well, but I found it a strange experience not having an amp behind me. Ours is quite a basic PA and so we could only put a bit of bass through it, but it all seemed to work OK and the crowd all seemed to enjoy it.

I have to say I think Rush are in it for the money. I was looking at buying their Steven Wilson HD remixes, but (apart from one album) they’re only available in £300 box sets. As for Ticketmaster, they’re just a bunch of shysters.

Two of them run on about 0.2A, so you could use a usb powerbank.

TKS is King CAB's, just enjoyed mine, way better than many top brands, if you like a very clear sound, (it's easy to make a clear cab sound less clear, but not he other way around) My TKS cab is clear as a bell, and makes it pretty flexy, what you put in you get out, choice of bass/ tecniq/ playing, amp, love to have this pair, looks crazy inzanely good

Choice between Warwick Pro Fet 3.1 and Ashdown RM 800 Evo - Help Needed

Ashdown 🤟👍 -
I think it has a useful place on your board and it’s a bit like the TC Spark Booster although the TC does more. I think increasing amp gain is sort of the same thing but perhaps not quite as some of the weaker bass signal is already lost in a long lead and you cannot increase gain on frequencies that are no longer present so I see some mileage in your points. It might also be the pedal EQ points are voiced differently to your amp EQ tone stack. Either way it was a nice pedal and often used by guitarists as a boost pedal in the FX loop for solo boosts

Wow. What a day. So many incredibly nice people. Tried lots of 'first time basses'. Cracked up with the absurdity of that bass synth that turned me into Eddie Van Halen 🤣 Brilliantly organised, wonderful nosh. And then I won the bass... I think I was in shock for half an hour! On my way back, I stopped to call my guitarist brother and he was 30 minutes before a gig at the Earl Haig. Only 15 minutes away, so I decided to watch the gig and give him the bass. He was absolutely made up and says it's stunning and "It’s the bass I would have chosen!! Colour and spec". He promises a photo soon... Thank you everyone, what a brilliant day. Three requests for next year: 1 a compressor workshop to explain how to set them up properly for different purposes. 2 more vegan lardy cake. 3 can I win a left hander for my other brother? 😁😁😁

LeftyP started following Inexpensive 5 string bass

For some time now I have been thinking of getting a 5 string bass. I play in church and some of our worship songs drop down to an Eb and even to lower D. I usually play them up the octave (Eb on the A string) and can get away with it but I then have to go to an F and then G by which time I am venturing into six string guitar territory! I didn't want to spend a lot of money in case I couldn't get the hang of the extra string and my 75 year old back won't take a lot of weight to I hunted around the internet and eventually found a likely candidate at Gear4Music. They do a "Chicago 5 string Bass" for £129.99 plus 99p postage! This includes a lightweight carry case, audio lead and strap! How could I refuse? When DPD delivered it the next day my wife joked that they must have sent me a toy plastic bass because the box was so light! The bass was well packed inside a stout cardboard box that was inside another stout cardboard box. When I eventually uncovered the bass I was impressed - it really looked good in a deep transparent red colour. Using my luggage scales it weighed in at only 6.5lb (2.9kg). That's about 1lb lighter than my 4 string semi-hollow Italia short scale and just a few ounces more than my Tanglewood violin (Beatle) bass! On the strap there is very little neck dive and its contoured shape is kind to my aging body. I changed the strings to LaBella lightweight flat wounds and the instrument sounds very good through my home system. Getting used to the extra string is a challenge! I'm either hitting the wrong string with my fretting hand or my plucking hand or both at the same time! It's starting to come together and for £130.00 plus new strings this is one very capable bass guitar. If you are thinking of venturing over to the dark side of 5 string but don't want to break your bank give this one a go. I shall be playing in church this coming Sunday so there'll be plenty of practice to do between now and then.
