The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!

For the money, Broncos are great. In the event she changes her mind you haven't shelled out too much. On the other hand, if you get the Squier CV and she gives up you've got yourself a pretty nice new bass! -

I think the problem is that IEMs don't need as much distortion due to their frequency response - amp/cab pairings will inevitably cut some of the top end which will allow more dirt due to the bass not sounding as 'fizzy'.

Show us your rig of choice for the weekend ** Basschat edition**
DGBass replied to bassace97's topic in Amps and Cabs
Rig for my final scheduled gig of 2025 last night. I thought I'd break out the Christmas lights since it's that time of the year. Cab( Silverstone II) and pedals same as usual, AH250 SMX for the first set, and a Series 6 GP12 for the second set. Bass on the night was my 90s USA Standard P-Bass. All sounded rather splendid together. Merry Christmas rig posters and Basschatters -

DOD FX25, DOD FX25B, Q-Tron (big box) Q-Tron Mini, Q-Tron Nano, Q-tron +, Chunk Systems Agent 00Funk (a close second, but mostly because is sooooo much smaller), and a couple of Donner micro pedals (a purple one and a white one). All of them did what I needed them to, but the meatball is just incredibly flexible; I can set it for any sound from any bass.

I'm really struggling to get an overdrive pedal that works with IEMs. I think it's because the sound through them is so clear that is the issue. I've only tried a few but I don't want to have to go and spend a fortune on them to get one that works. I just want mild overdrive but what I get is a ton of extra bass with it or a cheap, boxy sound. I know that 500 members could advise 500 different pedals to use if I still used backline but if I could get a list together of the ones that people are using specifically with IEMs then I could start looking more at these.

Ok, I have two. A rather nice Rob Allen MB-2 and a lovely PJ which I aquired from @Beedster earlier this year. Oh and a DB, that's enough for now 😉.

Your best (and worst!) bass gear purchases of 2025?
miles'tone replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
It's a journey for sure. Beauty at it's hardest 😉. I wouldn't change a thing though. No time for bands anymore but music is it's own reward at the end of the day. Bass playing finds a way! ✊️ -

Me... I enjoy having basses that (in general) feel and sound distinct from each other so not a Squier Mustang if a Fender Mustang is in the future. Plus, check out all the videos of young kids shredding on 34" scale basses. Small build is not a valid reason to choose short scale, there are other more compelling reasons. -
I just bought an LCR meter, an old Philips/Fluke 6304A to measure pickups and certain other components. I have results from a set of bartolinis. Practically nothing comes out after 4 kHz. Only reason to have a 10 kHz adjustment in the preamp if it has very low Q i.e. a shelving treble that reaches much lower frequencies. (Well, might be functional with a piezo pickup.)

I'm a bit puzzled by what you mean by "enough fretless basses". I have never heard of anyone in this unfortunate condition, or anywhere near it. Please explain?

Out of those I’d probably go with the Mustang…it’s logical if you’re looking at a JMJ or Jap Mustang upgrade path. -

Now £330.00. This amazing emulation of the acoustic control corporation 360 preamplifier with variamp and built in fuzz is up for grabs. Hand made by the renowned JC Maillet and commissioned and imported by myself at great cost. I have used the 360+ for studio recordings, gigs, rehearsals and at home, it has never dissapointed. The preamp sounds fantastic and the fuzz section is the best I have used. I have owned this pedal for a good few years from new, as can be seen it's in pristine condition. Specially sourced UK power supply also included. Will happily run from other sources with the right leads (I used it with a trex chameleon). Fully detailed printed instruction manual also included. Only available as I have more preamplifiers than I can use. Try out/collection always welcome, or UK insured postage for £15.00

EBMM know how to make a nice bass when they want to, no doubt about that. I don't know how much Pino might use his one, but that's not really that relevant. I wish EBMM and Flea would bury the hatchet and bring a Flea Signature Stingray based on his black/ rw 'Ray from the early '90's.They could have my money now.
