  2. That's not an amp, that's a work of art.
  3. Trace elliot twin valve 115 combo. What a beauty this is. Valve pre and 2 valve output rated at 115w. Its LOUD. It's ALL VALVE. It's amazing. The gp7 preamp sounds wonderful, and it has a few things over similar all valve heads.... The mid shift button really add some punch and depth in a good way. However the comprehensive eq means you really can dial in any sound you like. From deep deep dub to harmonically rich all valve sound. It also has a speaker out for adding an extension cab (if your crazy enough to use one). This is in amazing condition. It's around 35 years old at a guess. I've given it a thorough clean and it just looks fantastic. So, why this over any other? Well, it's a combo. A very well matched one. It's loud. It's trace watts, but trace valve watts it has room to add another cab. It's probably the same weight as just another valve head will weigh in at, and it fits in your car very easily. And the entire combo is cheaper than similar heads on their own. No doubt at all it's a collectors item too. Very few around, and even fewer in this condition. I've had the ashdown ctm300, the Laney nexus 400 and bugera svt and this is far better than those. Its guts me to put this up for sale, but I've also my gp12 410 combo up for sale so it's a case of what sells first. Nso if you do want it (and why wouldn't you) you'll need to be quick. Collectors item. Unbelievable sound. Good price. You'll not get many chances to get one of these. Pick up Leyland Lancashire
  4. For sale one of the original Yamaha SLB100 Silent Double Bass 3/4 Scale, Traditional Design Details, complete with original packaging and paperwork. I bought this on here a while ago, thinking I’ll get back to playing upright bass, but then the lower back pain started to kick in again and I remembered why I stopped in the first place! Listing it for what I paid for it. There are currently retailing at £8000 plus shipping from Yamaha UK, so grab yourself a bargain. See links below: https://www.yamahamusiclondon.com/SLB-100-Silent-Upright-Bass/pidKSLB100 Collection preferred, but I can get this over to the UK for collection there, or shipped (insured) within the EU. Genuine acoustic tone - play many styles Silent hollow design allows quiet practice Full frame replicates the shape of an acoustic upright Super Sensitive Supreme professional hybrid strings fitted The Yamaha SLB100 Silent Double Bass is a premium inclusion to Yamaha's Silent Bass series. This instrument features a full frame design. Closely mimicking the shape of an acoustic bass, this double bass is perfect for players who prefer the shape of an acoustic bass rather than the stick-shaped design of a lot of electric uprights. The inclusion of the frame on the lower half of the body also makes this an ideal instrument for players who like to sit when playing. The Super Sensitive Supreme strings which are included make this a great choice if you play both classical and jazz double bass. Full Description Genuine acoustic sound The SLB 100 features a hollow body just like other Yamaha Silent Basses. This makes the instrument sound just like an acoustic bass and is loved by players for this. The real wood body that is finished in a similar manner to traditional string instruments also helps enhance the tone and feel of this bass. What sets Yamaha basses apart from other electric uprights is their use of a traditional-style bridge. These bridges are cut just like those on traditional string instruments - making this bass great for both pizzicato and arco playing. Unlike other Silent Basses the SLB 100 features a full ebony tailpiece which further adds to the feel of a traditional double bass. Full frame design Other Silent Basses feature a frame which covers the top half of the instrument. This mimics the real frame of an acoustic bass whilst minimising the space. The SLB 100 takes this one step further and continues the frame all the way down the instrument. This makes the SLB 100 feel more comfortable for players who prefer acoustic basses or like to sit down when playing. You needn't fear about the portability however, as this instrument is just as portable as any other electric upright - the frame is still detachable for convenience and easy storage. Electronic integration This instrument offers the feel and sound of an acoustic bass while including features which are only possible with electronic instruments. Tone shaping is possible with the tone control and the volume can be controlled as well. During rehearsals you can ensure your bass won't make sudden noises if knocked. For personal practice the headphone jack enables you to plug straight into your instrument without needing additional gear. You can also play backing tracks through the auxiliary input to play along to. Yamaha Yamaha are well known for their superb electronic instruments. The Silent Strings series also includes violins, violas and cellos. As well as this, they produce the Silent Brass series of practice mutes, allowing you to plug in headphones for practicing brass instruments like the trumpet and tuba. For classical guitar players, they produce a Silent Series guitar too Specifications Size: String length 1,054mm (41 1/2") Neck: Maple Body: Spruce/mahogany Frame: Beech (detachable) Finger board: Rosewood Peg: Custom worm gear type Tailpiece: Ebony Bridge: Maple (height adjustable) Pickup: 2 piezo pickups Strings: Super sensitive supreme Electric controls: Volume, tone control, aux-in volume In/out jacks: Phones/line out, aux in Power supply: 9V battery 1pc. or AC adapter (optional) Battery life: Manganese: Approx. 12 hrs Alkaline: Approx. 24 hrs Weight: 10kg (22 lbs.) 7. Yes indeed, I use a Talman 5-er on flats for the more soothing first set, then a much-up-modded HB PJ Mustang-alike 4-string on rounds for the noisy stuff in set 2 I've sold all my decent longscale basses, my small hands with their arthritis don't like long necks any more...
  8. I bought a Hohner Arbor Series P bass quite a few years ago. Never gelled with that thing. It looked really cool in white/white/maple, but that wasn't enough to save it. Neck was too big for a 4 string for me and just something about it wasn't quite right. I think I'm coming to the realisation that maybe I don't like P bass pickups. I'm thinking about moving on a PJ bass I've currently got and my Squier SS Jaguar's P pickup got changed for a Mustang pickup 🤔
  9. LaBella flats are my favourite strings. Sound great and seem to last forever.
  10. Many thanks to Paul and Paul for organising. It was a trip down memory lane for me as i used to teach in Wokingham and Nine Mile Ride was a regular part of my cycling route if I ever headed east from Reading. Really good to meet some new faces and I was pleasantly surprised as to how much difference new pickups would make. Apparently I'm a sixties fan, who knew?
  11. Pigmy Twylyte - Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention
  12. Genuine US Stingray 4 pickup, good condition. £50 posted.
  13. Thanks to all who organised such a great day, and for everyone who brought along such a wide range of gear. It really was a lot of fun and great to meet so many of you. Really enjoyed the talk with Matt from Montys ... still trying to figure out which P pickup I should buy since they both sounded excellent. Also loved the fact that we had a hall full of us listening to bass loops through different cabs. That was an eye opener given my favourite was an 8".
  14. Meh, chicks dig mojo.
  15. ***PRICE DROP NOW £1300*** 2010 US Stingray, 2EQ, CAR with rosewood board. One of the limited edition 133 basses, full fat ‘ray but with a soft gig bag case instead of a hard shell job. This is in excellent condition with one very minor ding on the top edge, and the pickguard is quite marked but obviously easily replaceable. Comes with a Hipshot D-tuner (long key though instead of short… doh), if you want the original tuner key I’ll chuck it in. I’ve also replaced the pickup with a Nordstrand MM4.2, which sounds flippin’ great. She’s quite heavy (10lb) but with a decent wide strap it feels ok. ***EDIT*** now comes with the option of a Warwick Rockbass semi-rigid case - photos added. Loathe to post this but can at buyer’s (insured) expense, or can meet in person at either Portsmouth, Southsea, Southampton or Lymington (I’m on the I.O.W.)

  16. I bought an Adamovic Jupiter Fretless, what a pile of crap that thing was. Looked nice, really nice even, the woodworking was faultless and the woods were beautiful. However, the playability was ok, but critically it just sounded awful. I can't remember the last time I played a bass that was just so acoustically dead. I can't remember what pickups it had in it (it had a big wooden ramp made from the top wood which looked great but completely hid the pickups) but I know it had a Glockenklang preamp. The tone was woody, not my preference but not a bad thing, I had a Sandberg Thinline Custom that also could be described as woody, but it sounded really lively, it was great, however the Adamovic sounded utterly dead. No harmonic richness, no character, just a dull note. It sounded about as exciting as a £200 starter bass, completely at odds with the exotic looks. In fact, that might be unfair on £200 starter basses, on reflection. I think I paid £1300 for it and sold it for the same price, which seemed like a scorching deal at the time - to order one new from Adamovic would have cost more than £5000 and that was before Covid and Ukraine inflation madness if I remember correctly. Ultimately it put me off the brand and I'd still advise anyone thinking about buying a used one to play it extensively first and in no way would I buy a new one, money up front, before playing the finished article.

  18. I would have loved to have been there, it looks and sounds liek it was a lot of fun and tehre's plenty of you I'd like to have seen again and, of course met for the first time! Maybe next time. Looking forward to seeing all the pics and vids!
  19. Damn what a beauty
  20. I posted this elsewhere, but this site offers a (non-scientific) but very useful sound guide for each of the ear plugs reviewed, volume normalised. I found this very useful as I was able to pick up some cheap generic plugs that offered better speech intelligibility versus some that I have that seem to be more bass heavy. I have another set here that are really peaky around 2Khz, which is really fatiguing, so making sure I didn;t end up with another simialr set mean this site was invaluable. I have to say, these would be only short term use as all generics hurt my ears afetr a while and rarely sound as good as a set of moulded Pro plugs. Mine are 64 Audio, but I do have a set of the "Help For Musician's" moulded plugs by ACS through the Musician's Union too - highly recommended for busy professional bassists. https://www.hearadvisor.com/earplug-rankings https://www.helpmusicians.org.uk/get-support/physical-health/protect-your-hearing
  21. Three’s a jolly good fellow . Great news about being mortgage free ! Massive achievement.
  22. We have a gig to support one of our favourite charities, Matthews House (a drop in centre/cafe/advice hub for homeless people) on Friday. Last night's rehearsal was a chance to go through some old favorites and pick out the best for a short set following our performance with the charity's choir. It was quite a relaxed affair and I think we've settled on the core songs, with a few extras should the need arise. The event is to start a '24hr sleep out' raising money for the charity and it's being held in the Swansea.com stadium so technically, my 'How was tour gig last night' post will be for our stadium gig. I somehow doubt it will be a 21,000 seat sell out, though. 😀 As it's an outdoor event and the weather forecast is for rain and cold weather, I've been practicing with thin liner gloves just in case.
  23. That's a JBL E140, rated at 400w, will he really blow it with a Dual Showman? I like the sound of the old D140F in my Bassman cab, but I will never run it very loud, and it is VERY heavy. If the intention is to gig this behemoth, then Bill's advice to put another Deltalite in and port the cab accordingly is the best in my opinion. At least it will make the cab "slightly" more portable. I would also get some new grill cloth, it's fairly cheap, and it's easy to install and it would smarten things up considerably. I like your cab. Rob
  24. If we're happy with the venue - it seemed to work well enough - I think we'd be more than happy to arrange one for next year. Obviously, there's going to be some minor logistical issues, but all in all if we just set out a handful of ground rules at the start and stick to timings, we should be good. Personally, thanks to Paul and Gary and to everyone that turned up!
