  1. Past hour
  2. Thanks, I'll give it a go when I get back from the SW on Friday - I think part of it is due to the Elixirs having no tapered end like some other strings do. They're actually quite a light gauge too - 40-95 set with a 125 B-string.
  3. Blimey they are chunky. those strings could be set better in the saddle by pressing hard over the bridge - that B string is looking like it could be bent much more than it is. That’ll help quite a lot. I’ve used abrasive cord on all sorts of bridges - I’m sure they’d make light work of brass. I tend to tie one end of the cord to a door handle and hold the other end, then with my other hand I run the bridge saddle over the cord. It doesn’t take long to deepen the groove - just be careful to keep it straight (ish). Oh and the saddle will get quite hot! I have only really needed to do it for D and G strings (I like a super low action particularly on the treble side) so you might need different gauge cord for the bass side, so it might be a different ball game. Hopefully Overwater can supply some lower profile saddles but if not, instead of a new bridge, this is worth a try.
  4. Bernie Goodfellow (GB Guitars) uses them on many of his builds. As you say, it’s really helpful and with no forseen downsides.
  5. The problem with most combos is that they fire at your ankles. Try an Eich BC112pro - the tilt back functionality makes it seem like it’s super loud and amazing for monitoring.
  6. Thanks Ped - these string guides are solid brass. The ones that have the separate inner block and the Alun key bolts in the top.Would an abrasive cord go through brass? Interestingly, I spoke to Chris May this morning and his idea was to take the bridge off and rout a few MM deeper, thus setting the whole bridge lower. 🤔
  7. I'm late to the party, but I'll give it another go this year. I think this will be 3 years now. I really need to get better at impulse purchasing!
  8. I’ll take 2 please mate! I’ll send you a pm to sort payment.
  9. Bah! uninstalled everything off my PC including all of the drivers. Before connecting my pod go to the PC I did a factory reset. I then connected it and downgraded the firmware to version 2.0 with the wireless plugged in. Then installed version 2.5 (the current version) again. When I did this it reminded me that I needed to update my GT10II receiver. Went into Line6 Central but it didn't see the receiver. Followed the advise of taking it out and plugging it back in several times before giving up. BTW - I emailed Andertons at 8am this morning to say that asking me to use a cable for a wireless effects thingy or contact the manufacturer was poor form on their part. Granted, if it had been a few years old etc then I would've gone straight to Line6 but it's only a couple of months old. I was polite about it and more disappointed than anything else in their initial response. Had radio silence since then so I'll give them until lunch time tomorrow before I raise a return or something like that. I don't want to return it, I just want them to help me but if they don't respond then I'll have to act to get their attention.
  10. In addition to bass I can play a solid drum beat and I can also play a couple of additional instruments not so well. After all that lot I reckon bass guitar is probably the easiest 'professional' instrument you can learn to play and, sound competent without having to study much. U could if you were so inclined learn a bit and join a country band and play two step for the rest of ur days...probably the easiest genre there is. In fact I know one guy who kind of did just that. But for most that wouldn't be enough. But how to progress? What's the plan? Its not that easy.
  11. Anyone going on Sunday ?
  12. I used one of these once with PA support liked it. The question is do they have enough power to drive a decent cab to use without for small to medium pub gigs ?
  13. A solution would be to use some abrasive cord and file down the string grooves in the saddle
  14. People still go to hear classical music live, right? And arguably the very best of that had been composed by the early 20th Century give or take? There's still a very considerable demand to hear orchestras performing covers. Why is that? The human interaction I'm referring to is between performer and audience. If their rep includes AI music and it's great music, then the performance will still be the performance irrespective of who/what composed the tune. That was my point about Elvis. No one cared who wrote the tune as long as it was a great tune.
  15. Hi all Watched BTW's recent review of the Mantle preamp pedal, and Gregor made a good point regarding notched pots (i.e. ones which don't turn smoothly, but in fixed increments) He said it's really easy to replicate a tone in a studio etc, as soon as you find the sweet spot you are looking for, you can easily access it again next time by recalling your preferred 'notch' on your tone knob e.g. 8 out of 10 etc. It makes me question - why are more tone knobs on basses for example not notched? It seems to make sense for some applications. Do any such instruments feature this? I know a lot have a centre detent of course. Would like to hear your opinions! Danny
  16. Must be sold surely ?
  17. It is worrying until you get 'used' to it.
  18. Thank you @dannybuoy for giving me the heads up on the Zoom MS-60B+ and I took a punt on it and it arrived today and I've been playing it non-stop this afternoon and love it. Apart from the Octaver being just as good as you said it was and getting very much in the OC-2 ballpark, it also tracks really well, even below a low A, and you saved me some bucks on buying a separate unit and it's a huge improvement on that effect when compared to the past Zoom units we mentioned; however, the big surprise was just how good and useable the amps and preamps are and once again, they're a big improvement on past units. I'm very impressed and it was instant like shortly after I plugged in and it's livened up my EBS Reidmar 250 head which needed something. Cheers and much appreciated!!!!!
  19. Hahaha, I remember first seeing that little girl at 9 years old??? Lovely to watch, but did make think why bother!
  20. I like that too but my bass only has a neck, no headpiece at all..

  22. Profile is quite shallow nut width just over 41mm
  23. I had lessons from the age of about 15, and if I was starting out again I’d do exactly the same thing, I think it set me on the right path of how to learn, my teacher played mainly blues so I learned a lot of that first aswell as doing my own thing with reggae, I was also taught how to read music which is one thing I didn’t continue with, sometimes I wish I had but it hasn’t stopped me from playing anything I wanted, there’s no harm in just trying a few lessons just to see how you get on
  24. ....well, I'm currently having piano lessons. And I DJ/produce DnB and Techno as well as being in a Ska/Reggae band playing Bass and occasional keys. And I dep Bass for a rock band. So there is that.
  25. Today
  26. Will it? If music is something done by AI there may just be less interest in it. Certainly there is less interest in younger generations than older generations. With pubs closing down and event spaces reducing, I can't see that there is much time left for people playing live. I have the advantage of being old so I don't really have to worry about it, but you know, people only started going to see groups from the 50s on, everything has a time and maybe that is over. What is the actual point learning an instrument if you are never going to be as good as a machine?
