How was Your rehearsal last morning or night ?
Stub Mandrel replied to nilorius's topic in General Discussion
Decent rehearsal tonight. Cut a bit short as drummer is waiting for an mri on a rotator cuff injury. "Did you do it drumming?" "No I fell over when I was pïssed." Six new songs went well. Also jammed Midnight Specialn which I'm not familiar with. Just listened to it, and my line wasn't that far off. My new earplugs worked excellently. Used the Sire P10. Got told I was a bit quiet. Did a lot of subtle fiddling with eq to no great effect - eventually realised I was in passive mode with two songs to go... -
What if you filled in the letters with gold or silver paint as subtle mockery of the fender logos?

That is f***ing awesome there is a parallel universe where I would create something like that (as well as being a millionaire aristocrat with my own harem) but sadly I don’t live there
-
What are you listening to right now?
Stub Mandrel replied to Sarah5string's topic in General Discussion
Sounds like Nightwish with a harmonic minor scale (not a criticism). -

I’m the same with my U5, not a problem for me. My issue now is that I have two 30” scale basses - the U5 and a Squier Jaguar a mate has recently given me - and only really need one, but which needs to be moved on? Both have their good points, and are almost identical weight wise. Going to take them on gigs over the next few weeks to try and decide. -
We used to use passive speakers and a (heavy!) power amp. The powered Mackies are a real game-changer. Just those and a mixer with built-in echo/reverb, it's a lovely quick setup and breakdown
-
It’s a fairly budget system comprising two passive bins with internal crossovers linked to two 10 inch passive tops. We use a Yamaha EM512SC to power these, 2x500 watts. It all works okay, but does need upgrading. Did a gig recently where we used in house QSC powered 12 inch cabs and it sounded great. Ideally would like something to handle acoustic guitar, acoustic / electric bass as well as 2 vocal mikes, probably powered cabs like your Mackies or similar. RCF stuff gets lots of recommendations on here too, so will have to start looking.

It certainly looks the same apart from the paint.

I’ve been very happy with mine and I haven’t found the forearm thing too bad. There is a bit of a contour at the back edge but not enough. I have found stick on foam edging works on other basses with edge binding. The sort of stuff made to make furniture edges safe for toddlers. It would mess up the look of the Sire but might be worth a try, if you find the binding too uncomfortable. -
I must admit, I have yet to click "play" on any of this AI music. Perhaps that makes my opinion on it uninformed, but I feel that if it wasn't worth someone's time to write, play and record it, it's not worth my time and attention to listen to it.

Probably the same concerns that arose when recordings became viable , the industry made plenty of money selling reproductions of artists performances , technically not actually real. The money and authenticity now is in the performance again.

Anyone recognise this 15" speaker?
Bill Fitzmaurice replied to TheBassCripple's topic in Amps and Cabs
Looks the same to me, other than the paint. If the OP's was an OEM that might explain it, as OEM very often left out cosmetic touches. -
What PA are you using? Our pair of Mackie SRM-450s are fairly old technology now, but easily handle our vocals and occasional acoustic guitar, and can be picked up second hand for not many notes

That board has an aesthetically pleasing look. Nicely laid out. How do you find the MXR compressor? I'm thinking about getting a dedicated one (I'm not finding the ones on multi-pedal usable).

As ever - context is everything. I saw a band on Friday night Papa Shango. Adult rock (Limp Bizkit?) pantomime on steroids is how I'd describe it. Female and male lead singers, 4 backing singers and a lead guitarist wandering around the floor. Rhythm, bass and drums occasionally joining them. Walking round the audience with squirty cream, biscuits, water pistols, it was a full on audience participation. If they're playing local go and watch it, even if the music isn't your cup of brandy. I'm all for that kind of ridiculousness. We have a tendency to take ourselves far too seriously. -
There's such examples posted on this GP-5 FB group, inc mine. It's good to have both 5V USB and 9V nozzle power options on the GP-5 https://www.facebook.com/groups/2661648260701246/?ref=share

For me I thought Chi Cheng had this very laid back groove that worked between the guitars and drums. Simple and functional but with a great feel.

Both seem perfectly rational to me. -
