Is this the end for the boutique bass?
chris_b replied to bassplayer76's topic in General Discussion
OK, this is getting tedious, we're splitting hairs here. Boutique basses are low volume, hand made, well made and high quality. Obviously they are not knocked out in a shed somewhere in China!! -

Yes they all say that. -
Just had the AVRI 63 delivered. Initial thoughts are that it is possibly slightly lighter than my 78, nicely set-up, the nut width is a bit wider and that it currently has flats on it (whether they stay is another matter). It seems to play nicely, so first impressions are all good. I will put it through an amp when I get a chance later. Also, I need to change the strap buttons, as the previous owner used a different straplock system. I’m gigging this weekend, then on holiday for two weeks. When get I back, I will spend some time playing it properly, maybe even use it on a gig. Then I will decide if I’m going to keep it or move it on, and if I keep it if want to make any changes. First signs are pretty positive!

The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!

Welcome Dan, sounds like you`ve had a very interesting career in music, I`m in agreement, short-scale basses do make life so much easier, not just with the weight but the overall playability due to the scale length and string tension. -

Great bit of kit that lets you play along to songs via bluetooth. My presets are on it but you can get the free app to make your own sounds. I've had this for years and battery life isn't great anymore at around half an hour - I tend to use at my desk and keep it plugged into the USB output of my laptop for power. Price includes UK mainland postage. With box and charging cable.

Price drop - £135 includes UK postage Hi, I’m selling my Aguilar Octamizer version 2. Well looked after and very little use. £185 price includes UK Postage. Here’s a bit of info from Aguilar: AN ALL-ANALOG OCTAVE PEDAL THAT CREATES A WIDE RANGE OF MUSICAL SOUNDS AN OCTAVE BELOW YOUR BASS SIGNAL. Modeled with old school and new school needs in mind, the Octamizer features independent volume controls for both the Clean and Octave sounds. This makes dialing in the exact amount of each a cinch. The two discrete signal paths also have their own tone controls that were specifically designed to enhance and expand their musical possibilities. The CLEAN TONE control uses a full spectrum tilt EQ, allowing for the boosting of treble while cutting bass or boosting of bass while cutting treble. This unique circuit allows you to create a clean sound that creates an octave doubling effect or to blend the sounds together for a great thick, snarky synth tone. *Pedal powered by universal 9-volt power supply only. Not included. Proprietary detector circuit for superior tracking Continuously variable multipole low-pass filter for Octave sound Dual filter architecture Full spectrum tilt EQ for clean sound Pedal powered by universal 9-volt power supply only. Not included. Cheers! Michael

Best or worst? (I played through a TC BQ500 at a rehearsal studio and it was pants!) -

It really depends, sometimes you'll come across a boutique bass that goes around in circles, and it has no end really!
