basstone started following Gillett Contour ST
-
The Gillet basses are fantastic being innovative, unique and very well made. I tested some early prototypes for Mike and gave him some feedback. I've always been on the lookout for an upright bass sound from a bass guitar and these came close. Being a long scale fretless player, I did not want to spend the time getting the intonation sorted for a shorter scale so I did not buy one! Probably also a bit of a niche market for them but this is a rare opportunity for someone, surely as there are not many Gillett basses out there?

USA Ernie Ball MusicMan Stingray 5 string ‘Special’
MuddBass replied to MuddBass's topic in Basses For Sale
-
Yep - I repeatedly see people trying to sell replicas for "what it owes them", but that doesn't equate to what it's worth. It doesn't matter if it's subjectively "better than a real one", because it's not actually a real one. If you buy used, then it's likely to be a zero-cost item if/when you decide to move it on.

Baloney Balderdash started following October Composition Challenge
-
Ok, so here's my contribution, given it a Halloween-ish twist, since it is October: Single track 1st take, played on my 28.6" scale 5 string Ibanez GSRM25 Mikro Bass, tuned to E standard tuning, recorded through my "amp-less" setup, directly into my Zoom H4n handheld recorder, only edited using a simple Wav editor.

WishIcouldplay started following Vintage Basses
-
Has the bottom dropped out of the vintage guitar/Bass market?
-
Loving this, big tune
-
Lol! Would love to, but I don't have a wide enough lens or enough guitar stands.... 🤣
-
Next question- do you have a photo of them all together? I’m sure it would be a spectacular sight.
-
Assuming I get rid of the Lurgi, I am going to check out the venue on Wednesday first thing. I expect it will be fine, but if it only has a single 5A socket under the stage we would have a problem...
-
A favourite brand for sure. Actual instrument.... probably not, I love so many of them....
-
Out of 94 I have to ask if you have a favourite? The inquisition ends here I promise 👍

1988 Alembic Persuader PMSB-5 5-string Bass signed by Stanley,Victor,Marcus,etc
Kiwi replied to Soli's topic in Bass Guitars
My first reaction on reading that you had made an offer was 'oh no, I hope he didn't accept.' Think these kinds of sellers are the ones we just walk away from until they have a light bulb moment...assuming that happens at all. -
So, since getting the Tascam I've found I don't really have to do too much to it at all to get a good track out of it. Placement is the main thing. I use it in a reasonably small room with drums, bass, keys, 1x guitar and vox (with the vox and keys going through a PA in the room). Generally speaking, I keep it away from the drums, with mics pointing towards the PA speakers and on top of an amp. I've brought a tripod with me a couple of times, but haven't used it. Once I get the recording, I just normalise it and do some slight EQ tweaks in Reaper then convert it to MP3 and drop it on the band drive. It's all pretty easy and only takes 10mins. I'm sure there's more I could do to it, but I don't really find I need to for just sharing with the band.

@spyder If I understand you correctly it is the circuit that is responsible for (or determines)how the given valve sounds- that makes perfect sense but essentially the valve attributes to it too as otherwise the circuit would sound the same with any valve? Thinking of it - Being it the easiest thing (valve) to swap in order to get the better/different sound out of amp - that’s not that bad ,,economy,, as if one would be swapping amps to get the better sound out of one valve.. 😁 Should stop following this post as now i am about to start thinking of getting myself ABM or any amp with valve in it to see for myself (i only have hifi valve amp and never the time to listen to the music and stash of many ECC83 or 12AX7)- not good for my wallet.. Btw - anyone with opinion on Brimar valves?

GrahamLeeds started following D'addario EXL165TP

You have more basses than the aforementioned Wunjos have on their shop floor I'm sure. Not sure I'll count the guitars though. Let us know when it's 100 basses 😄

Are bank transfers safe to buy goods from here?
chris_b replied to lushuk's topic in General Discussion
To answer the OP's question, bank transfers have no safety net, so there is always a risk. You have to judge the person you are dealing with. So with homework and a dose of intuition, you can be as safe as you can be. I had a guy in Europe wanting to buy my bass, but he kept messing me about, several times trying to renegotiate the price and juggling the postage and price. This went on for over a week. In the end it didn't feel right and I backed out of the sale. You always have to be prepared to walk away if alarm bells ring. I only buy and sell from proper shops or Basschat members with a track record. I've used bank transfers, for buying and selling in the UK and Europe, cash and meet up within a 100mile radius, I've also bought and sold on the way to far flung gigs, and once I sold a bass on instalments! So far (touch wood) I've not had any issues, with Basschat members or with carriers. I always use Interparcel and whichever carrier on their list has the best terms. I insure myself, ie I'll stand any losses. I pack basses in a gig bag or case, place in heavy duty bicycle boxes and pack with polystyrene sheeting for extra protection. As I say, so far I've been fortunate and had no bad experiences. -
Okay , catching up … From what I’ve gathered ( mainly on you tube of course) , is that if you have for example a sub 37 then you don’t need the 25 as well. Also there are comparisons to other moogs . By this I revert to a nice excited jack on Andertons comparing the moog sub 37 with the Grandmother! Worth a look , if you haven’t seen it . Also with the bassy moogs , you may not need more than one . In my position for example , I have the Grandmother and the Minotaur. I really really like what I’ve seen of the sub 25 , but it would seem silly to get it ! The one thing I love about the minitaur is its size , ideal for me in my small flat . I did wonder about offloading the Grandmother and minitaur for the sub 37 or25 , but I’ll stick with what I have ..but it is tempting and I am jealous of you sub 25 owners 🙂

I have access to a private storage facility that I visit regularly to swap/retrieve stuff as required...

EmmettC started following New batch of 3leaf audio Doom 2 dropped. Still in stock
-
Sorry to resurrect a dead thread, but seems better than starting again - I have a 3 Leaf You're Doom, and I have the option to trade it for a Doom 2, but it'll cost me around £150 to swap. Is it worth it, I'm really happy with the You're Doom, it is really simple to dial in between songs for live use and it never sounds bad. I do like the eq option on the Doom 2 though, seems like it will be even more versatile, but will it be as usable live? Anyone who has tried both, is it worth £150 to "upgrade", or should I just be happy with what I have?
-
Sorry to ask but where are they stored? 🤣

This is a very good quality plate, made by Fatboy Guitars Ltd. in Newport England, probably about 20 years ago. I have had it in a drawer for years and never even removed the plastic film so it is in new unmarked condition. The colour is a very pale mint green to my eyes which is not captured in the photos. Price includes UK postage.
