Can I suggest you choose the way that uses fewest cuts. That'll make it easier for people going to B&Q or a timber merchants for cutting.

He's actually replaced me in the Americana Revue band that I was in (long story but I didn't leave) His Gary Glitter story has me p1ssing myself laughing. @NancyJohnson great to see you again and looking so well @prowla great to meet you and talk Rics @cetera that's some collection of Spectors and nice to put a face to the name @silverfoxnikagain a pleasure to meet you @bassace97 get in touch mate, I'll give you HW contact details and everybody else, a pleasure to geek out with you all -
So if I build two cabs they're twice as good 😊?
-
I'll redo my quick cutting list so it's a little clearer and tidier. @Bassybert how do you want to incorporate a suggested cut list? I can send you it it in Fusion 360 or I can try and find something else. There are a number of ways to cut and if you have a long cutting guide rail, that's one way and a short cutting guide rail a different way. Rob

BTW I demo'd six cabs at the SE Bass Bash yesterday all running off PA amps set flat and adjusted so the levels were the same. The 1x8 was a clear winner repeating the performance at the SW Bass Bash.

I suppose anyone with enough Lego + time + skill could build it themselves without needing to buy a set. They make it look that simple on Lego Masters anyway! That sort of is the core idea of Lego as a creative toy rather than always following box sets and instructions isn't it?... At least that's the message I got from the Lego movie and Lego Masters!- 37 replies

Let's do that then, once I have that I can amend the earlier posts. and I can put @rwillett's cutting list up under the plans. Thanks guys, it's why I like it when somebody builds the plans. It's the little details that make it easier for other people to follow and once a few people have completed the build you do spot little errors.

Love that funky little twist you have going on there Daryl. I've never heard that played with a pick before but that works so well. Don't think the fall was that bad as i hardly noticed it. I've always thought Crossroads sounded like a loose jam and playing the "Jazz" version works quite well in cream songs. In the mid 80's at a very packed rock venue in middle of Glasgow the 3 piece band i was in was playing Crossroads and the singer/guitarist and drummer decided it would be fun to announce a bass solo from their new bass player. I was using a fretless WAL at the time and had never been put in this position before so i just kept the main riff going and added a few fills and chords but i wasn't happy they did it as i'm not great at ad-libbing like that in front of an audience. I'm ok at a rehearsal kind of thing or even at home but when people are watching me the old panic sets in. Since that day i've told almost every band i've been in that bass solos are boring and don't work for me or an audience. I'd much prefer to work a solo out at home and just play a "planned, rehearsed" solo but none at all is better. 🤩 Dave

2025 SE Bass Basheroonie! Sunday 9/11/25 *CONFIRMED*

Really sorry I didn't make it in the end - I underestimated how long the remembrance parades would go on for, and by the time we got home it was too late to get up to you guys (the mountain of trace cabs I was going to bring also intimidated me out of loading them into the car!). But if we get a date for next year I will put it straight in my diary although would prefer to avoid remembrance Sunday if at all possible! -
There's so much to say about yesterday's bash. Sorry, my phone died so I've got no photos of my own. A big thanks to @Mike Brooksfor hosting the talks with Matt from Monty's and also with Chris Childs. Really insightful and lots learned. FYI, the Monty's basses/pickups were played through a GK Legacy 800 with a more or less flat setting going into an LFSys Monaco. The first P bass (the Retro Wind) and the 4th (the green J) were absolutely stunning for me. One of the big insights for me from yesterday was the subtle differences between basses that are "the same". Andy's Hamer Chapparal B12L has some subtle differences to mine and feels a bit different on the strap. The big eye-openers came from comparing Spectors. Even Euro LX models from the same year have differences in neck carve, tuners, pickups and nut width, let alone all the cosmetic and wood choice differences. Phil's speaker comparison was insightful again. The acoustics of the venue made it a different experience to what it was in Taunton four weeks ago. It certainly made a mockery of a comment I heard recently where a chap who was looking at my LFSys Monaco said, "I wouldn't get on with that, I only like 10s".

£150 for a practice tool... I'm sure there are lots of options that do the same thing (maybe not as well but it is to practice with... does it need to be that good?) for a lot less money. I'm not about to throw out my Mooer Prime P1.

Understood, but we do want to have an 80s pop band aesthetic, playing just any instruments and wearing our normal everyday clothes would not do the job.

I have a Retrovibe LP style shorty that came with some hi-gain (forgot the brand) Ric style pick ups. Yes it has a great Ric sound to it. I like to gig it BUT it's essentially a slab body and I find that uncomfortable on my wrist. It just needs a little bit of relief on that top right edge. I dare not do it, it's likely to end up in a dozen pieces if I try. 😁

Yeah, came out last week

Love it when that happens. Dave

Not only that, but IME once I stopped trying so hard, the bands I have been in have been more popular and more successful at a grass-roots level.
