Mammoth WVH 👌 One of the best modern rock bands in my opinion ✌️ -

@Byo @Lozz196 I loved the JMJ’s punch, but I wanted a warmer, beefier tone with bigger lows, less top-end bite, and a hotter output, so I dropped in the Nordstrand. That said, depending on the amp and pedals the difference can be subtle—both pickups are great…I mostly just wanted an excuse to put Nordstrands in. 👀😂 My father in law has a JMJ with the stock pickups, I’ll do a side by side to see how noticeable it really is. 👌

ash started following Ibanez Roadstar II 1981 MIJ & Case

Ibanez Roadstar II 1981 Japanese made bass with original case. This is the early 80’s Ibanez version of a Precision, the difference between this and some Fenders of the same era is that this model doesn’t weigh a ton and costs about a quarter! This is a lovely bass in its own right, simple passive volume and tone, split pickup and a nicely proportioned neck. It weighs 4kgs and is in pretty good condition for its 44 years. It plays very well and sounds like you would expect. It’s all original apart from the strap buttons which were changed years ago for strap lock types. This was prior to my purchase so I’ve no idea what happened to the originals. There are some dings to the body and some small blemishes to the neck. Truss rod is fine and works well, frets are in good order as is also the pickups and hardware. I got this in a trade and it owes me £495. Classic black and maple looks which I love, sadly the slightly wider than a P bass body is uncomfortable for me to play so it’s not seeing any action. I’m getting rid of any basses that aren’t being played regularly that hold no sentimental value. Sorry no trades unless you have a Sterling SB14 or a US Sub Sterling then possibly. It comes with what I was told is the original case. It’s certainly of the same era. One clasp is broken but it still does the job. Great vintage MIJ Precision alternative at a decent price. I’m sure it will bring back memories for some of you. Prefer pickup but can post in the UK only at buyer’s cost.

I keep forgetting how much I like Skunk Anansie, Cass Lewis is a monster.

It's like when you watch those "isolated bass" videos on Youtube - the tone is often pretty unpleasant when solo'd, but perfect when heard in its proper context. I got to hear that first hand the last time the band and I did some recording earlier this year - I laid down some fretless, and once it was in the mix with heavy guitars and a drummer who's not shy with his double-kick pedal, it became a bit hard to hear. Just sorta rumbled under everything. So the engineer and I sat down, we tweaked the compression (I use a fair bit of compression anyway), added some overdrive and did a little EQ'ing and frequency slotting, and, all of a sudden, there it was, a big, warm, supportive-yet-audible fretless tone. Soloed it doesn't sound great, but it works when combined with everything else.

I could get used to the feel Tony, in fact I had really, but I just couldn't get on with the tone. They just didn't sound like me. Anyway, they're sold already! Rob -

Many basses I’ve bought have had rounds already fitted and I’ve always given them a try, it’s not so much the sound I don’t like it’s the rough feel of them, I just prefer the silky smoothness of worn in flats ,and of course the tone, probably the rounds that stayed on the longest which was about a week was the ones that came on my new custom Sandberg, they are quite a nice string -

Oh you know me so well. Fender seems not to like them. Maybe they detract attention from the Land of the Giants' headstock logo too much...? @neepheid Neepster? If I bought this could you change the neck for a nice Ibby SR series neck for me? If not... knock the price down enough for me to buy one and I can take care of it m'self. Joking aside, I bought a selection of metallic powders to see if mixing them with resin & hardener would work as a metallic looking filler to do an inlay on one of Jack's uke builds. It didn't bling as I'd hoped but it looked eye catching anyway when flatted and buffed. I've still got some somewhere if you want to have a play before you decide how you want to fill the water damage. PM me and I can pop some in the post for you.

Sadowsky SBP2 into an MXR M87 comp, into a VTDI, works a treat with rockier tunes.

The first 113 bars of the tune #Remembering' from the 2005 Avishai Cohen album, 'At Home'. I stopped before the solo as it gets really challenging in terms of the rhythms and, frankly, I bottled it. Otherwise, it is just a simple and pretty tune that is a great early exercise in note recognition on ledger lines. Slow and steady wins the race. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/remembering-avishai-cohen/

I think it's a good upgrade - well done Boss - I still have a lot of trialing to do I'm keeping the old OC-2 as well though

Ditto. My Dingwall has been off for a couple of days for a repair to the preamp and I’ve been mainly playing my old Stingray and it’s completely not me any more. Gonna be listing it for sale soon… -

So, my foray into rounds has come to an end and I'm back to flats. To be fair, I almost kept these, but then every time I picked up a bass with flats on, I liked it more. Only two weeks old, cut for Fender P or J, but generously, with three or four turns around the peg. I've played them every day, but only at home in the evening, and they have never been gigged. They are the best rounds I've heard, and these are the strings that Sean Hurley uses on his vintage P with rounds. Price includes postage. Rob

Spingere started following String changing mystery on Ibanez EHB
-
I recently changed the strings on my lovely Ibanez EHB 1265ms. I put in DR Dragon Skin+ Nickels. I bent the strings before cutting off the excess and was all ready for a final tune up when I spotted the A string unwinding. All the other string were fine, so I assumed it was a fault with the string. A replacement was sent and, you guessed it, the same thing happened. Any ideas for what I'm doing wrong, given that all the other strings are still fine?

Copy cat 😜 I got a shell pink one delivered in March last year, it'll be on his Insta if you want to see what that looks like. Viv doesn't go in for a crazy amount of options, but you could get a matching headstock, I think he still does ash and alder bodies, and binding. https://www.wilcocklondon.com/order-form
