I have had many great dealings with rich tone music in Sheffield, the downside is it's hard to leave the store with money in your pocket as they have so much good gear!

I was just about to post something similar... That Bass you have looks very interesting. Not one for the masses, but certainly one I would consider a 'players' instrument. I should imagine that it plays and sounds great! 👍

millar138 started following P bass - Pickup recommendations- weird one.
-
So I’ve just had a 2018 American original P bass delivered and it’s outstanding... big fat neck, plays beautiful.. BUT - the pickups… the 58 split with the two raised poles under the A string. It doesn’t work for me… I play stainless steel strings and the A string is ridiculously loud in comparison to the others. (I have set it up to accommodate it but I’m not happy). Here’s the thing …. The a string has a much more clanky, clear and aggressive tone the other strings which kind of sound sterile and dull in comparison. I’m looking for a pick up recommendation that will give all four strings the same clank and grind my A string currently has. I still want the classic P bass tone. I don’t want heavy metal type pickups as they lack dynamics. I have another bass with geezer butler EMG in it.. it’s too compressed and smooth- maybe that will help understand the tone I don’t want. thanks guys

I'm in. I'm really hoping I have time to make a headless travel bass with an additional Roland Hex pickup system this year. The design has been in my head for ages, so with a bit of luck I'll go out when I buy the headless bits 😁

I bought this very well upholstered Gator gig bag (current retail £135) for my Guild Starfire bass, but although it fits, its a bit tighter lengthwise than seems sensible, so this has barely been used. It is fairly obviously sized for a Gibson 335 guitar, but will also fit a flying V or a short-scale bass that's a fraction smaller than a Starfire Loads of padding, loads of pockets and a waterproof cover (in pocket 6 on the back, I think - depends how you count the pockets) The padding at the base of the bag can be removed (its on velcro) to give a couple of cm extra space - the quoted overall internal length is without this extra padding fitted Pickup preferred, but I will post it, although I haven't worked out what that would cost, let me know if you're interested and I'll get a price. Internal size: Overall Length: 46.1" (117.09 cm) Body Length: 25.0" (63.5 cm) Body Height: 3.5" (8.89 cm) Lower Bout Width: 17.3" (43.94 cm) Middle Bout Width: 15.4" (39.12 cm) Upper Bout Width: 13.0" (33.02 cm) Exterior Dimensions: Length: 47.8" (121.41 cm) Width: 18.3" (46.48 cm) Height: 6.9" (17.53 cm)

Yeah I contacted one, very quick reply and for a guitar I have they said they’d give £435 as they’d sell for £650 but when I actually searched they’d sold similar modes for more like £700-800. I’ve never even heard of bass bros. Seems like I need to do some serious research. I only even thought about it cuz Facebook started shoving it down my throat!

LA Audio high quality active DI box, very solid construction; comes with an instruction leaflet - which is worth reading since the box is deceptively versatile! This works off an 18v rail so can cope with high or low level signals. Power via phantom from your mixer or 2 x 9v batteries Usefully it has a +20db switch to increase the level of low output devices and with 1M ohm input impedance is compatible with piezo pickups The Input will work with Instrument or Speaker levels ('Pad' switch is for speaker level), isolated XLR output for your mixer and a 'link' output to take the signal on to an amp or cab A separate unbalanced output is available as well as the balanced XLR

In a world record for me, no basses for 4 months. Although this is since getting my Dingwall ABZ and it being the epitome of perfection. I guarantee I am at my limit, however will enter 2026 with this mindset, for a limited time.

I have made it to the end and I'm not even tempted. No, I've not looked at Anderton's sale just yet, but the next six hours can easily be held off for.
-
I'd like to see if I can manage this coming year without multiple tier 2 fails again.
-
@Cato and @chris_b if you listen to the aforementioned Charles Berthoud cover with anything else than your phone, you'll hear a nice and power B string with a super well balanced overall tone, nothing harsh as the stainless steel fingerboard is very close to a Brazilian rosewood one sound wise (as I already stated elsewhere).

In my experience it is almost always the room/PA. The only time I can hear the difference between a very expensive and cheap DI is through headphones or in a studio. As soon as you project into an imperfect room through an imperfect PA there are other factors that make a much bigger difference (although I agree there is also quality of construction differences and the more expensive ones are built like tanks). BTW did you put something over the soundhole? This does a slightly different thing to the sound and also helps stop feedback.

Suburban Man started following Streaming Big Ben bells at midnight
-
Depends if you want the Bells in real GMT or streamed (slightly delayed) time. Real time best option is VHF Radio (yes I know its almost insanely old, but it doesn't have any discernible latency) If streamed then any broadcast feed - TV, Radio etc should do the trick and you can bluetooth it into your PA from your phone/laptop/tablet thing. It won't be accurate to actual GMT, but if its the only source of the Bells available, then most people won't notice

A bit of dyslexia 😉 , as it's indeed a Le Fay (Remington Steele), just like mine...
-
No - you are right - I meant 1/4" and 1/8" which are easier to write than 6.35mm and 3.5mm! What was actually confusing me was the number of rings on the connectors as I always thought that more than the normal two ment there was also a mic line, so didn't realising that there was also a wider jack 4.4mm connector with four rings! Then I thought maybe it was an IEM thing and I had inadvertently bought the right thing, but no, the "pentaconn" connectors are a cork-sniffing audiophile thing! Anyway the adaptor has arrived now and all is good.
-
I'm definitely in for the Tier 1 challenge, but reckon that it will be almost impossible to achieve Tier 2 across an entire year. However, nothing ventured...
-
Do tell. I shall update the scoreboard later, folks.

I am @thebrig, just been away doing Christmas stuff and being ill. Will shoot you a message when I am free. There’s shed loads of bands in the county, lots of busy function bands and plenty of pub bands too. There are a good few different venues in and around the county, but most will squeeze ten-years-ago pub pay out of their takings for entertainment, though there are a few that genuinely do their best to look after bands in the county. I teach bass (and guitar) here and yup, there’s one or two of us bassists in the town. I haven’t been out in the town for a while for, well, reasons, so I can’t comment on which of the pubs are still doing bands, but of the pubs we do have, they are nice, good food and generally, not too much trouble even when the Wymondham Massiffff are out.
