Yes I noticed the Octamizer too but thought that was more likely to be digital than a comp. The comp is based on the original smaller one isn't it... which I thought was analog. Maybe it is correct as you say.

That is a lovely P sound. Quite like the Pure Vintage derived "Coastline" one in my American Professional Classic. Very clean top end, but not too harsh or nasal sounding, and lovely and warm at the bottom.

Well, last night's gig with The Inevitable Teaspoons (we're on Spotify, by the way ) at Drummonds in Aberdeen was a lot of fun. Gigged my Cort Curbow for the first time since I replaced its guts with USA Bartolini pup and Glockenklang preamp and it is the bass it always should have been now. Sounded terrific last night - punchy and strong. To be honest, I didn't need to do any EQ on the bass, I just left the EQ flat and ran the pickup in series. The gig itself was a good laugh, maybe 50 folk there, hard to tell because some folk were at the end of the room up a level. Mrs. Neepheid came down to see us too, yay! She reported that she saw quite a few folk into it, not quite motivated enough to get up and actually dance but there was chair dancing going on in various pockets of the room. The crowd took a while to warm up, but we had a few folk up dancing by the end. I went walkies during "Shake a Tail Feather", that got a good laugh (and a dance with Mrs. Neepheid). I'm a happy boy. Gear was the Cort Curbow and my pedalboard - I love a "just turn up and play" gig with house PA and a sound engineer who knows what they're doing. Although I had some Trace gear behind me, most of my monitoring was through the house wedges in front of me.

I'm sure these will be very nice, judging by the constituent parts they've used, but I do find more and more that I prefer the OEM Fender sound (when you get a good one!) I'm sure I've either played or owned most of the alternative Jazzes, from the £63 Ash and Roasted Maple Fazley to Sadowskys and Lulls, and you know what? If you get a good Fender, it just feels and sounds right. I've been setting up an as-new American Professional II Jazz that I took in as a PX the other week, and it's just sublime. Also, I played in the house band at a reopened Jazz Club in Sheffield last night, and played my American Elite Jazz all evening. Pure bliss. My point? Sometimes only the original article will do.

just a heads up for Beyerdynamic users. Been testing this out for a couple of days. It seems to do what it says and is free. It makes quite a difference with my 700 pro X. It smooths the high end quite a bit. I didnt realsie how harsh they are until i tried this. Great for general listening but not as flat as i had hoped.

Just to refresh this thread, given that there are currently two Odyssey basses in the for sale section, and I was looking forwards to reading more about them. The ads seem to have been overlooked.

Sad day (well, week). After a year of no use and increasing pressure to free up some space, I carted my wonderful SVT and Fender Bassman Neo 8x10 off to BassBros. I don’t normally think twice about trading gear in, but I really winced at this one. If I could have kept it, and believe me, much man-maths went into it, I almost certainly would’ve. Very glad I started this thread a few years ago and got to tour a massive, over-powered rig. Nothing comes close. Time to join the other wedding band warriors with a Markbass set up! 😔 (Joking. I love my Markbass rig, just in a different way.)

So what's the main benefits from them. ? Why spend that much more than a good quality set of nickel strings. I'm just curious. I did have a mate that used them because he was allergic to SS and nickel strings so his reasons were understandable. Dave

If that new Doug Wimbish bass is only available in that relic finish then I won't be buying one after all. The relic finish they offered on the old new Doug Wimbish last year cost an extra thousand quid, and I don't like relic finishes anyway. I'm certainly not going to pay a premium for one. I don't mind the aged white colour, but the rest they can keep.

That looks fantastic. Congrats! Looks pretty much like my American Original Fender, but probably at about a third of the price! What's not to like?

If the top end is reduced too much, you could remove an area of leather under the bridge and insert a metal block/shim to ensure direct bridge to body contact. (As long as the neck joint is tight and stable, that isn't really any different to the plastic under-plate used on plenty of F shapes basses).

RE: just marketing and such, I don't know about the Daves etc, but they mention that this is designed for small clubs, churches and pit bands etc, where there's not much space. In churches/pit bands at least the amp never really gets moved, it's more of an install. I reckon this fits the bill. It's small enough to sneak on some stage noise, the rear connections open up a bunch of options for in-ear monitoring, and having some simple impulse responses available on the DI outputs is actually pretty handy. As an aside their new Octamizer / TLC pedals have some genuinely nifty features too. The new Ashdown series looks ace but it just has one plain DI out - it's a different thing. It's a shame you can't connect another cab to the Aguilar, but that'd kind of defeat the point anyway. Maybe it's a bit pricey but my experience with my Tone Hammer head is that it's a 'buy well, buy once' thing. Re: Eco-mode, maybe it's similar to some modern active PA speakers. We use a big HK Audio system with an eco-mode. If it doesn't receive any audio signal for a while, it powers itself down, and automatically turns itself back on as soon as it gets a signal again. This could be pretty handy for the target venues.

I sold eight basses to finance this one, now in the making. It will be a once-in-a-lifetime build for me by my luthier of choice: Christian Olsson at Unicorn Bass. Here is a close-up of the headstock just to show the incredibly grained 3000 years old redwood face. The body of the bass will have the same top and backside, so it will be just gorgeous. It will be an unlined fretless five string with one pickup in wooden housing. No controls , pots or switches, just plain wood. Except for the bridge and tuning machines.
