Stripping and staining walnut body - advice please
Beedster replied to Grooverjr's topic in General Discussion
I'm also going to be stripping this soon (think it's also walnut), although it appears to be a very thin finish luckily. There is virtually no grain to speak of but I hope to bring out what's there as much as possible before finishing 👍 -
Does it go mwahahahahaha with sustain?

Bigger, maybe

Stripping and staining walnut body - advice please
Beedster replied to Grooverjr's topic in General Discussion
I give you a week of sanding to no apparent effect to revise your thinking 🤣 All joking aside, that was my thinking also, and still is, so if I absolutely had to strip a finish like that I'd take it to a professional, although probably not a music professional, you might might find a painter, furniture restorer or similar who'll do it for you at much lower cost than a luthier. Very unlikely and others who know the manufacturer/instrument will know better, but you might be very lucky and find that it's one of those finishes that you can pretty much peel off once you get under it? -
Update: I've added a Cali 76 and am using one for pick attack, one always on. Works a treat. https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/289-post-your-pedal-board-basschat-style/page/486/#comment-5597175 @Osiris thanks for the input.

I misinterpreted the original post and thought the socket in the amp was wobbly. That's really good service from Eich - I had experience dealing with Thomas Eich with a couple of products from pre-Eich days and he was always very helpful.

TrevorR started following What is an expensive bass?
-
I always find the “what bass is too expensive to play down the Dog & Duck?” question very hard to answer given that this was my regular wedding, club and pub gig set up in my function/party band days. They were the basses I most loved to play, so those were the ones I played - wherever. OK, I didn’t pay today’s ridiculous prices when I bought them in 1993 and 2000 respectively but their second hand prices in the mid 2000s was still substantial. The Sandberg I bought this year would probably be considered expensive by many but, again, I love playing it so I do! Here it is funking it out at our local jam night.

Woodwind started following 2 channel mixer pedal - what's out there?
-
I need to reconfigure my boards for a show in February and will most likely use this new set up for a while after. I was originally running two DI feeds to FOH, but I need to blend both my channels to one DI for this show. I have been looking for an inexpensive 2 channel mixer pedal and can't find anything outside of second hand Boss KM2 which would be absolutely ideal apart from the price. Does anyone know of a similar pedal to a KM2 that is being produced now? I'd like something small so it can be mounted on my board. A switcher is no good as I use both channels simultaneously. Thanks for any pointers

Unopened, still have the cellophane wrappers. This is a 5-string set and commonly used as replacements for 40DCs in Spectors to get that PJ sound. The 40P has a reverse P inside and the 40J has a single coil J in there. I have a Euro 5 LX with the same and prefer it to a pair of DCs. I can't see myself buying another 5 anytime soon, so these need to go.

Raz bought a Sadowsky Metro from me - the deal went very smoothly, with fast communication and payment. Wouldn’t hesitate to deal with him again! Enjoy the bass Raz!

I may be in a minority of 2 here but stereo is overrated, especially fake stereo, the other on is Wilko Johnson who said the Feelgood's first album Down By the Jetty was mono because they couldn't really get a stereo recording from drums, bass, vocals and one guitar

Bought these recently here and they’re great but I decided to go with my preferred choice on a bass I’ve modded for a particular situation. In my trial with them I found them to be quiet and even with low output as described (alnico standard) but much better than stock pickups. In other words...pro improvement. My East UK active preamp has gain adjustment so that didn’t pose a problem. I thought they were vintage voiced (60’s) but even slap style sounded pleasant. I preferred the more hi-fi sound of the EMG for the stuff I’m doing (plus I have more vintage styled instruments available). I also did the series/parallel switching with them and that was great (versatile option) but you can choose either as both ways sounded great. The original post: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/518269-celinder-ss-humbucker-alnico-jazz-pickups-sold/#comment-5561431 I have epoxied the tabs so they’re much better and poses no problems to mount the pickups. I’m asking what I paid for them and this includes UK shipping.

Jean-Luc Pickguard started following Pickguard Static
-
Playing my new(ish) Vintera bass VI, I've notived that I get a load of 'static' noise when my hand brushes against the pickguard when plugged into an amp. I don't recall ever noticing this phenomenon before on other guitars/basses. I'm planning to do a copper tape shielding job on this bass soon, like I do with most of my instruments. As part of the shielding I'll apply the tape to the back of the pickguard and ensure it is continuous with ground. Should this cure the static?
-
Thanks for all the advice and suggestions! Not sure if the guy who suggested 'swapping for a pick' is clear that this is double bass we are talking about? Anyway thanks, and best wishes for Christmas!
