The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
Stub Mandrel replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
Played a (PJ) Fender Mustang at a jam last Saturday (strictly the early hours of Sunday...) Flats, lots of foam at the bridge, but it played fine. The strap was very short so I felt like Mark King... -

All my amps go there. 4 this year. And I'm in Gloucester. It's 2h each way but worth it, especially for old tech.

An end to price gouging by Viagogo and StubHub?!

I stopped going to anything where Ticketweb/Ticketmaster/Live Nation are involved. They just absolutely fleece the fans by charging huge amounts on top of the ticket prices while adding zero value. In the bright side, Ive seen loads of bands at the start of their career and realised their energy and enthusiasm on stage makes for a much better performance than the dinosaurs I used to see. I go to a decent size festival once a year so still see a few bigger bands but pay £200 for three days of great music instead of £150 for a few hours at a Live Nation show -
Huge Hands started following Donner Pocket Go

I would be interested to see how it compares to the Sonicake Pocket Master, which (if memory serves) is a similar price and has a screen so you can see what you have selected. I have the Sonicake and love it as a headphone amp for noodling in the house and can also bluetooth my phone to it to play along with stuff.

SteveXFR started following Unsung bass albums

Grade 2 - Grade 2 The fifth album by the young punk band from the Isle Of White. Bassist Sid Ryan is clearly heavily influenced by Matt Freeman but he's adding plenty of his own style. He also sings and is pretty lively on stage which is amazing. Monster - R.E.M Mick Mills bass lines are absolute genius. Interesting rhythms and really complimenting the guitar and vocals. Absolutely brilliant bit of 90's alt rock. What The Frequency Kenneth and Orange Crush are favourites for me

Does Size Matter? Is 8” Big Enough?

Lol @Chienmortbb just cross posted exactly my point, more eloquently. -

+1 I can vouch for the HB MV-4SB , great fit and finish with a decent range of tones as stock. Alder body, bound roasted maple neck, makes a great starting point for many upgrade routes. -

Some of those points occurred to me. I thought of how LFSYS came to be... they meet the requirements of a passive PA. Most people who make cabs do it out of curiosity and creativity, not to save money or even to achieve exceptional results. It's an extension to their hobby. -
M4TT started following Johannes Rubner 3/4 bass: best way to sell?
-
Hi, I am looking to sell my late mother-in-law’s double bass. She was an avid musician who enjoyed playing a number of instruments semi-professionally. She had two double basses, the first she asked be donated to a local school for children to hopefully learn the joys of using it as it was “a cheap” one which we have done but the second she said was a much more professional instrument that should be used to the full as she did in front of an audience. Anyway I’ve been searching around and having spoken to a local-ish shop who wanted 30% commission to sell it I thought I’d see what other options there were and stumbled upon this forum. I see that I can subscribe to sell items here but I wanted to ask you, the regular members, if you felt that would be the best course of action for such an instrument or if there were other, better, alternatives I should consider. I won’t put any pictures here as I don’t want to contravene any rules but it is a very well loved and looked after Johannes Ruben 3/4 made in 1987, with the serial 12/87. To my untrained eye it looks to be in great condition and a few years ago my late mother-in-law indicated to my wife it was worth around £7-8k. I’m out of my depth in understanding the real value of such an instrument and would welcome any advice on that side of things too, does anyone know who could help with that? There are also, separately, two bows which we would look to sell. Again any advice on how best to sell them would be fantastic. I am based in West Sussex. I hope this post isn’t breaking any rules and would like to thank you for any help in advance.

This is true of all electronic and musical instruments too. It is the joy of making, t(at is satisfying not financial savings.

How was your open mic or jam night last night?
Stub Mandrel replied to tauzero's topic in General Discussion
Last night Fractured Persona took a four song slot at a jam night. Squeezed in a tiny space. Lots of love for my Westone Thunder 1. Went very well and a big confidence boost for our less experienced members. -
