These only work with tuners that have screw-in bushings as opposed to push-in bushings don't they? I'd probably try one if I had a bass thay'd work with, but I believe the issue they fix can also be resolved by leaving the cut string long enough to ensure that the number of winds around the post is sufficient to push the last wind as close to the wood of the headstock as possible.

It arrived today. Initial impressions after ten minutes of knob twiddling and preset switching. This is good. This is very, very good.

Saw him play with The Firm at Glasgow Apollo many moons ago. I was very impressed by him. He was using a fretless Jaydee bass at that time. Have a listen to his Blue Murder album with John Sykes on guitar and vocals and Carmine Appice on drums. Here's the single from it. Dave

I was sorting out my music drawer at the weekend and found some flat wounds with thin black silks. I'm pretty sure they are medium scale from measuring them quickly last night. Anyone have an idea what they might be? I thought Labella as there's no silk at the ball end, but the thin silks is throwing me. Cheers.

Fair enough for the Moog Voyager effect, I'll need to (virtually) give that a try - but I think it is niche. And yeah, stereo modulations and delays applied to bass/synth bass - mostly if just affecting the high end can be great, but personally they are features I'd look for on modulation and delay pedals to apply further down the signal chain rather than a synth bass pedal itself.

Mastering is applied to the final stereo (or mono) mix. It involves EQ, compression - usually multi-band - and for vinyl collapsing any stereo imaging of low frequencies into mono. All the changes are global and any apparent change to the mix will be the result of the EQ and multi-band compression. Generally a separate master is required for each delivery medium - vinyl, Compact Cassette, CD/Uncompressed Digital, Compressed Digital in order to play to the strengths of each, and in the case of vinyl make sure the audio capable of being cut. Anything involving the use of the original multi-track recording or "stems" should be labelled as a remix.

^This The other reason for change is greed....ie 'Apple" they appear to have converted their entire back catalogue,not once but multiple times in some cases-and what garbage comes back ? An American view of all music created by back street studios wholesale with no no finesse at all- just mass producing the music for apples viewpoint. And of course that new noise is a bigger profit for them times how much ? I hate remastered stuff in the main-because having grownup with the music why should I have to suffer the dirges produced for the different tech offered by a company that is just another US trillion dollar company wanting more shareholder bucks. Rant over........

I know bugger all about music production. What is the difference between remixing a track and remastering it?

I had one of the Indonesia passive single humbucker models that I bought direct from Vox. There were no problems with it but it had clearly been removed from the shipping box and worked on. It was well set up and everything fitted properly. Unfortunately, the price I paid was much closer to RRP. I was in the process of selling it when they dumped remaining stock on GuitarGuitar at fire sale prices. I had to go even lower to sell it. Consequently, I have lost my trust in Vox and radical designs in general (although I still have a Nordstrand Acinonyx).

About 30 years ago we bought a 120 year old upright labelled as Jackson’s of Coventry (which I have never been able to find anything about). It was overstrung with an iron frame. It sounded nice and worked fine apart from one of the end keys that had been used to repair one of the more central keys. Moving it was an absolute nightmare. It was unbelievably heavy! Unfortunately, when we moved to Wales, 17 years ago, we just couldn’t bring it with us. We ended up having to skip it, which felt like sacrilege.

Stereo chorus and/or delay can sound wonderful on synth bass. Obviously more widely used on lead and chordal stuff though. And stacked stereo bass with subtly different settings on each side can be really great. Moog Voyager does this sort of thing, having two low pass filters in stereo output.

I can see the point of a new mix/master if tracks were mastered for vinyl and the remastering improves how it sounds keeping the vibe of the original. For me, the PF's Animals '18 remix sounds more detailed as if it was painted with smaller brush strokes. Nothing has been made too prominent at the expense of anything else, but the '25 RL Trouble master sounds like every instrument is trying to be more upfront than everything else making it sound cluttered and fatiguing to listen to. One album that genuinely baffles me though is the stooges' raw power. I have a few versions of this album and all sound a bit like they were mixed/mastered by someone with cotton wool in their ears. The original mix sounds like there's a blanket over the speakers, the 1997 mix sounds like its being played too loud through speakers with ripped cones, and there's a 'legacy' version which sounds like the guitars are in another room with the door closed.

I suppose for more atmospheric pad type sounds it can be useful. But bass (synth or otherwise ) is best in mono as far as I'm concerned, and that's the general rule in music production as well as live. Stereo bass can cause phase issues, and it just looses some of the impact. e.g. on a reggae soundsystem all the bass is mono.

I guess big boy prices, big boy bass. Shame in a way but the original models didn’t sell well and they seem to have concluded that the scale length had something to do with that. I wish them well but I think these are going to be even less successful at this price.

Just having a listen to some stuff by The Firm Great bass work from TF. I've never really listened to him before Any fans here?

I remeber being hugely underwhelmed by Led Zeppelin Remasters back in the 90s, especially after all the hype tjere was at the time To be fair I was a poor student at the time and didn't have a high end hi fi system, but to me there was little difference between Remasters and the Led Zep albums I already had on cd, meaning I'd essentially bought a superfluous compilation album of stuff I already owned. I've been skeptical of remastered rereleases ever since.

I don't even thing you do even - main jack TRS is stereo .... You can use the expression for stereo if you want to use a pair of TS cables or something. Is it just me, but I don't get the stereo thing, I'm guessing it makes more sense for recording and non live stuff?
