  2. Yes it takes a bit of practise. Start simple and build upwards. One trick when singing is to simplify the line your playing, kinda fudge it a bit. To think I once sang lead vocal on 'Forget Me Knots' in a three piece? Can barely even play the bass line anymore...The exuberance of youth can achieve pretty much anything.
  3. Hi , I have an Ampeg Combo ( Ampeg B-200R Rocket Bass Combo ) with a 4 ohm 15 inch speaker inside , Can I replace it with a 8 ohm 15 inch speaker , being that it is a Transistor amp ? I know it will reduce the output . Pete
  4. I'd never heard of the condition, really interesting to hear Victor talk about it and how he's combating it John 😎
  5. What's this ? Giving up gigging. I reckon you'll miss it. Always take a large 18" gym fan and have it at your side of the stage. It makes a world of difference even on a minimum setting. Dave
  6. Meant to ask if you were using an amp or DI to desk. ? Can't quite see what's behind you in the vid. Dave
  7. Love the catchy wee bass line in Crazy Train. Dave
  8. sounds like a plan. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cwye5jx8y3go

  9. Just to confirm, I will be coming. I'll bring a Reverend Triad 4 string and a Reverend Mercalli 5, with a GK & Barefaced rig.
  10. Oh John, it would have been a comedy if it had been at an open mic. The speaker stands had been set up with the legs splayed little more than the width of the speakers and then had been placed on an uneven bit of field which ws sloping. His eq was all over the place, just at random it seemed, and he'd turned the mids right down at some point and was then complaining of no volume. Someone with a bit of sense set the eq to flat and bingo you had volume. At one point he switched the output to the monitor channel and couldn't understand why the master volume wasn't working! Total panic. Btw there are line level outs on the front of the amp but you'd ideally want to use TRS to XLR leads. Anyway I'm glad we got it working and it turns out that through decent speakers your guy has a good voice. It might persuade him to let you in if you reassure him he'd sound better with someone else operating the PA. Your bass sounded great by the way. Was that the Monza?

  15. Looks like the hot cover is about to peeel of ? (wish it was mine, what a nice cab)
  16. I laughed at Nige working in a cheesemongers with the guitars hanging up behind him. Elton on keys and vox was a bit odd, will reserve judgement until release.
  17. Tone wise, this only makes a difference on open strings doesn’t it? Other obvious factors are ease of working with the material on initial fitting, aesthetics and ongoing adjustments.
  18. On Friday we jumped in the Boogie Monsters van to drive from Surrey to New Brighton. That took 8 gruelling hours thanks to it being the first Friday of the school holidays and various car accidents. We stayed at our old drummer’s lovely new house (coz he was playing the gig with us), then yesterday headed even further north to Poulton-le-Fylde to play at their annual Wanderland event. Three 30 minute sets spread across the day, with our usual mix of pop and rock songs interspersed with kids songs, and it went pretty well all things considered. Kids and adults alike seemed to enjoy us and the organisers were very happy. Not sure I played brilliantly in places but that’s more to do with my relationship with those particular songs than anything else. We were back in the van and on the road by 4.30, and I was home by 10pm. Sleepy today 😀 Bass was my sexy Zoot Funkmeister, straight into the PA with my HX Effects and Digbeth preamp. Shoes were my now standard Soul Cal low tops. Now got a few weeks off before going all the way back up to Wigan (ish) for a Katy Hurt gig 🤓
  19. Laney Digbeth? Versatile thing and great value at the price. No idea on durability though. That’s the one thing Sansamp has. A proven history of being bullet proof.
  20. Busted - Ray Charles
  21. Easily fixed with a shower, leaving just the memories
  22. Final price drop, now £1600
  23. Since developing arthritis in my fingers I’m playing a lot less and thus am moving on much of my bass playing kit, keeping just a few essentials. Up for sale are a few of what I would say are my higher end pedals. * Peterson StroboStomp Mini - £SOLD * Darkglass X7 Ultra - £250 * Darkglass Alpha Omicron - £115 All in excellent condition (note the AO has some scuffs on the under side). Prices include insured delivery inside the UK. The StroboStomp and X7 ultra have their original boxes, the AO does not. No trade offers please.
  24. I’ve had the 4 and 5 of these. Marvellous basses.
