Glad to have been of some use. You're not alone in having the dock taking up valuable screen real estate. Most of the people showing how to use various Mac programs on YouTube are guilty of this too. I'm wondering if it's a self sustaining attribute, since the Dock is one of the interface items that automatically identifies MacOS and therefore anyone demonstrating a Mac program thinks it needs to be on their screen and consequently users looking at the videos never question it. Because I come from a graphic design background where every vertical pixel is at a premium and therefore any interface elements make use these pixels at the expense of what is in the program window are banished. At the moment my bane is the Adobe "Home Bar" which is at the top of every Adobe program and for many users like myself serves no useful purpose, but can no longer be removed/hidden. And you never stop learning Logic IMO. I've been using it for over 30 years now, when I got my first copy it was either late V1 or early V2 when it was just for sequencing external MIDI instruments rather than the fully-fledged DAW it is today. There is no correct way of using it; the two people I collaborate with each use the program in a completely different way to me, yet we all manage to get similar end results. Finally for reference here's my "home studio" set up (which also doubles as my graphic design studio for my day job) You can just see the bottom of the dock on the edge of the right hand screen:

Tier 2 sounds about right - it's gear, but it's not specifically *bass* gear.

In a 212 discussion, I'd question whether we need a 212 at all. Using the right cab might mean you only need a 112. With cabs I always used to over compensate. I prefer a clean sound so if 1 would be good enough I'd use 2. On very loud gigs I used to run a Berg CN212 and Berg AE112. Then I switched to a Barefaced Super Compact and Super Midget, and found that these cabs were louder than the 312 stack. I also screwed up once on our jam night. . . . I forgot to plug in the SC! I only discovered that at the end of the night, so the whole gig had been run using only the SM. We had some heavy handed players that night including a reggae player who doesn't take any prisoners and the SM was loud enough for all the guys who got up. Maybe Alex's claim that 1 BF 112 is as loud as other manufacturers 212's might be true. Since then I've used one Super Compact on several occasions when I would have previously used 2, and not found it wanting.

Yes I have to admit that we've been talking about going IEMs for a while now, just did a firmware update on the desk so we can set monitor levels on our phones, so buying an IEM probably does count as the next step forward albeit not directly bass gear as I will also use it for drums & guitar - hence I figured tier 2!

I used to play with a guy up in Ealing - we'd pop over to this guitar place locally (Peter Cook? Dunno). One time we were perusing the stock, my mate latched onto a 12 string Stratocaster and one of the staff asked me whether I was man-enough to play a six string TRB. He didn't know I'd depped on the Conklin stand one time. We had this acoustic song called 'Symphony to My Senses', guitarist was playing this up the back of the shop, so naturally I joined in at the front of the shop. It was a beautifully crafted song. There were a few punters in and the place went silent. We played for a couple of minutes and this spontaneous round of applause started up. It was a beautiful moment and the last time I played a six string bass.

Wasn't it always thus? When you buy the expensive stuff like Fender USA products you're paying for admittedly better quality materials, but at the end of the day, you're paying for the FMIC workers' mortgages, finance payments on their F150 pickup trucks and crazily expensive health insurance & pensions, not to mention fattening the pockets of the company shareholders.

IEMs are not (solely) ear protection. Ear plugs are ear protection - and definitely allowed. The choice to go IEMs is the equivalent to the choice to go wireless, as far as I'm concerned.
