    I don't think the stock preamp helps TBH. Ibby obviously assumed that they would sell more to the metal crowd who want a load of top end and when that is combined with hi-fi pickups like the Nords it's an excessively bright combination. You might have better luck removing the preamp completely and sticking in a passive loom. As they are still humbuckers I'd be tempted to try 500K pots rather than 250K but I'd put a 0.1uF capacitor in there so it can roll off loads of the top and and go super deep. All my passive basses have 0.1uF caps in them now for that reason. As long as you use a good tone pot that doesn't get in the way when it's at 100% there will still be plenty of brightness but with a little roll down it should work very nicely to tame that top end. It would be quite a bit cheaper than swapping pickups or the preamp too. I always follow the Duck Dunn school of tone settings. Back off the bass tone by about a third and then set the amp. Then I've got somewhere to go in both directions without having to tweak the amp mid-gig.

    I am all for beautiful American big name pickups - I have a set of Fralins which are sublime. But I suspect that any of the myriad UK winders could do something which would be easily as good for significantly less.     One must consider two factors - the act itself, and any premeditation. In this case, there was no premeditation, so a prima facie case fails if that was the sole criterion. However, there is the act itself, and in this case, it was perpetrated not by the (self) accused but by his girlfriend (whether with or without the knowledge of his wife), without any direct solicitation by the accused and apparently without his intention being to cause the purchase. I think a caution would be appropriate, and congratulations on the choice of girlfriend.

    I had one of the original RM 500s for a couple of years and thought it was great. The eq frequencies are well thought out. I didn't rate the compressor much, but otherwise it's a very good amp. If you're concerned about repairs, choosing an Ashdown amp is a good move.

    Barber Linden EQ Pedal. Baxandall style EQ pedal, similar in style to a B15/Fender amp EQ but with some interesting options on the toggle switches. Remarkably similar to the Noble DI in the way that these interact and a lovely parter to the JF Luce DI as I've found out this week. Price includes UK Postage.

    Given the nature of the Bird... I'd prefer collection/Delivery but well packaged and very insured postage is possible. This one has been my gateway drug, and before i knew it i've bought myself an old single pickup model. It's in mint condition, and comes with a great padded gigbag. Pretty light at 3.8 kg, and personally I haven't had an issue with neck dive as these sometimes suffer from. These are proper neck-through models like the originals. As always please hit me up with questions/photo requests! .

    La Bella 760PN-MUS Stang – Pure Nickel Round Wound A set of never gigged pure nickel Mustang rounds. These are designed for string-through mustangs. Tried on my '69 for a few days, but honestly just don't see that bass being anything other than a flats bass so off they came! Price includes UK postage.

    I've taken this in a trade... as much as I've been impressed by these my forays into digital haven't been successful and I've no intention in starting afresh with another unit! Please forgive the text from it's previous advert... everything is applicable and i couldn't have worded it better! Immaculate 12-month-old MKII Turbo (the one with the faster processor and larger screens). Purchased direct from G66 with 2 years of transferable warranty remaining. It’s been babied and well looked after.
