The only difference between these basses and a standard 2 band Stingray of that era ordered in any one of those three colours (candy apple red, metallic blue and white) was the lack of a hard case and substitution of an EBMM gig bag instead. They were certainly sold cheaper at the time (£995 IIRC) but that was because Strings and Things had a bulk order for them and used the slightly cheaper gig bag (nevertheless the gig bags are reasonably expensive - I bought one for a used Stingray which came in a very cheap cover). They are red, white and blue as they also celebrated an anniversary of Strings and Things, the U.K. Distributor. So don’t feel you’ve been done - it’s a standard full fat Stingray. This is rather similar to the fact that certain finishes (such as natural and sunburst) had a higher new price than say, a solid colour - despite this they often don’t seem to command commensurately higher used prices….. Poplar was used on most solid colour basses made up until the Stingray Specials in 2018, which all had ash bodies for the first couple of years. Poplar was also used on the late 80s/early 90s blueburst basses (as well as the US Sub basses made in the early 2000s). Alder was used on most translucent red basses. Ash was used on most natural finishes and original sunburst/ honeyburst basses.

What to insure an irreplaceable, but not expensive bass for.

Whatever you do, when dealing with any insurance company get the thing you've asked them for in writing. -

I'm loving this thread. A great introduction to some new music, and supporting fellow BassChat members too. If you're on Bandcamp and I've liked what I've heard, I'm following you. My bank balance may regret this on the next Bandcamp Friday. Mark

Acebassmusic started following Elrick Basses
-
I currently own a Cort Elrick NJS5 which is a great playing bass and I've modded the pre and pickups to my liking. The design is based on the Elrick handbuilt "New Jazz Standard" but at a more affordable price. This obviously has sent me down the Elrick rabbit hole. I believe Rob Elrick makes them all by hand himself so understandably theres not huge quantities of basses / reviews / information flooding the marketplace. I've only seen one being played live and that was a few years ago in the Bass Gallery....a certain Steve Lawson was noodling about 🤣 It sounded great, but then again Steve has the skills to make a tennis racquet not sound like a racket! 🤣 As I'm more likely to find a tame haggis in my garden than I am to be able to check out an Elrick local to Aberdeen I'm wondering what experience and knowledge the Basschat collective may have on the higher end Gold / Platinum series etc. Fit & finish? Sound & flexibility? Weight and balance? Playability? One trick pony or adaptable? Work horse or home bird? Any info welcomed 👍

Yeah, I think it was mid-late 66? I believe the lollipop tuners were made by Schaller, so I suspect it went along with that?

Some video that surfaced after our gig last week, courtesy of Eilihd our talented videograher on the night. The emphasis as always was on keeping it laid back. Our version of the Sonny Boy Williamson classic "Help Me". It's a bit grainy, and sounds better with decent monitors. HelpMe.mov

Katy's got a really great vox and your band sounds great! Not surprised she's got 10k+ followers on Insta! How did the band get started / how long have you guys been together? Are you regularly out gigging?

Rather than viewing the Toneprint as a replacement for an effects pedal you have to constantly change consider it as a way to add a fixed feature of your choosing to the amp. It's not something you have to figure out or mess with much, just add compression, drive, chorus etc to your amp with its own dedicated knob and crack on. For me the Spectracomp vastly improves the amp and makes a massive difference to achievable volume/depth when using a small cab, I wouldn't use the BH250 without it. The smart eq requires more figuring out than the Toneprint feature IMO.

Acebassmusic started following Vanderkley - Whats Happening?
-
I use a Vanderkley 210LNT and am really impressed what volume damage it can do in a rock band setting as well as more delicate nuances of my funky / souly / poppy type bands. However I've just done a trawl of the internet and couldnt find the Vanderkley website. Also most stockists (eg: Bass Direct etc) are out of stock. 🤔 Anyone know whats happening?

Quick question guys, when did Fender stop using Kluson tuners, I see them until 66 but could they have stopped before the end of 66...
-
Well, after much piddling about. i’m in one band…just one. Fiasco Jam Named before I joined, it should be The Fiasco Jam or The Jam Fiasco if it were my shout, but it’s not…so I’ll shut up. All originals, sort of indie rock stuff. I enjoy their company and we’ve done an EP which is available on all streaming platforms called “Broken Bridges” - currently self-recording an album which is edging towards completion… Here’s a live recording of a track called “We’re Connected”.
