Does Your Covers Band Change Songs? What Changes and Why?
Franticsmurf replied to Sean's topic in General Discussion
I've had exactly the same experience. The Guitarist/singer took great delight in 'impromptu changes' which, he said, were the sign of a real professional musician and that we should be able to follow him if we were pros too. It was extremely annoying at the time, but I later realised that I had learnt to improvise almost instantly and as a result became more confident on stage. One night we let him improvise the opening to the act on his own and he made a right royal c*ck-up of it. We only joined him on stage after the silence had ended. In answer to the OP - In the band mentioned above, we played simplified arrangements (usually a reduced number of verses) as the 'professional' guitarist/singer rarely rehearsed, which may also have been the source of the 'professional impromptu changes'. We had a longer introduction to 'Psychokiller' which involved the solid bass and drum beat with some odd guitar over it - I quite liked it myself - and at the end of the song we would often swap between it and '500 Miles'. In my current band, many of the arrangements have been modified to accommodate the range of instruments - usually involving a simplification of the rhythm for the ukes and brass - but the songs remain fundamentally the same. Last year we did a version of Pinball Wizard that didn't change key for the last verse because the singer couldn't hit those notes. I had no problem with that and it went down just fine with the crowd. I am not averse to rearranging a cover if there is some artistic merit to it - say to fit in with a band style - but definitely not to showcase a single band member or to overcome the failings of band members to properly learn songs. -
Of course, other outlets were guilty of this contamination too, it’s unfair to saddle just one company with all the blame.

I ate a Tesco burger last week. It disagreed with me, but fortunately, I'm in a stable condition.

2006 Squire Vintage Modified Precision Bass in Olympic White for sale - with some modifications to dress it up like a 70s P bass. I will include the Thomann gig bag with the sale. I have always wanted a 70s P, but as a mainly 5 string player I knew I wouldn't use it that much so I didn't want to commit too much cash to one. So, I found a Squire VM P bass in Olympic white which had a few dings online and then proceeded to create my own. Personally I think it looks great and it saddens me to sell it but I could do with a little cash injection right now. So, the main change is the headstock. The squire details were removed and sanded flat, some discolouration added to age the wood, a 70s decal added and then a vintage amber Nitro lacquer from NorthWest Guitars. I have flatted it back and flatted off the sheen from the back of the neck so it's nice and smooth. Aged string retainer and neck F plate was added (I always intended to add aged tuners and bridge but never got round to it.) Body - it had a few dinks here and there which have been added to (nothing major to be honest) and the bass still has the Seymore Duncan designed pickups, original bridge and tuners. The olympic white has aged and yellowed really nicely and the rosewood board is nice and dark. I know this won't be to everyone's taste but if you fancy a 70s P and don't fancy the price of one, this could be for you! I have included a picture of the original squire serial number for information. Not sure what else to add about the bass. It plays great and sounds just like a P should. The previous owner changed the wiring to cloth wiring and added an orange drop cap to the tone control. Any trial is welcome and I have packaging to post. Will look at quotes and would be happy to share the postage costs.

Hi all, I bought this on here in July 2024 to use on an upcoming tour, then decided on two separate signal chains (upright and electric) instead of using this as an A/B box. It has sat in a drawer in its pouch ever since, so is immaculate, and has probably only had a few hours use by me. It’s essentially the same pedal as the Basswitch DI (more well known to us electric bassists) but with a couple different features, namely a notch filter, and the ability to mix both inputs (for those using mic and pickup on their upright). It’s mainly aimed at upright players, hence the name and variation from the Basswitch, but it’s a lovely and very capable electric bass preamp, and has 2 effects loops, and a DI out. A real swiss army knife utility pedal. Perfect for running 2 instruments into a common signal chain and sending a single DI out. Comes with velcro attached (can take off if needed), it’s detachable rubber feet, and its protective pouch. Looking for what I paid for it - £150 + postage, or can be picked up from UB10, London.

These look stunning! Very much aiming at the Rob Allen style of bass. RRP of around €3,500.

Who is the approved repairers in Sheffield ? -
Relisting due to financial situation. Not the bass I want to sell most but suffice to say I have enough jazz basses, even if this is jazz software on precision hardware. Made in Korea in the 80s, it's well made and well used. Let me know if you want more pictures. I replaced the pickup covers with cream covers because I like the Tony-Franklin-esque contrast and the originals were in a state. I do not have the thumb rest. Quick edit, photos above don't show this wear:

Thanks. Have another biscuit ! These are stunning basses in appearance, even better than my photos and the pickups / preamp don’t disappoint either. I couldn’t find any other preowned one’s for sale in the UK currently so this is a great chance for somebody to enjoy a magnificent bass. Cheers. Quent
