You know it’s bad when you look at images of boards you were using on gigs, or in the studio, and you think, “what the hell is that pedal?” Or “I have no memory of that!”

It looks like the most basic version of the bass Overwater made in the late 1970's/ early 1980's. I think it was called the Artisan, if I remember correctly. It might well have been a slightly different shape to the full-spec Thunderbird-basses they made, a bit more compact, but I'm going back a long way in the recesses of my memory. A local guitar shop was an Overwater stockist and I remember they had one in stock. That will have been about 40 years ago. Anyhow, they were excellent quality instruments and would look the part nowadays in any indie/alternative rock band. I know that in those days a feature of top of the range Overwater basses was conical fretting, where the frets got progressively thinner going up the neck. It's worth checking if this bass has that. Anyhow, it's a really interesting bass and a very good find.

Dead chromes, a light touch straight into the board on a good few recordings disagrees with that statement 100%. My P bass records with a thick gritty tone that studios have found very easy to deal with.

Some sort of adapter ferrule that will enable a smaller machine head to fit into a larger hole in a headstock? I have a set of Fender Japan-sized machine heads - the tuner posts are 12mm diameter but the holes I am putting them into are 14mm (replacing vintage fender sized tuners). Long story short, it’s been a nightmare trying to find anything that will fit and these are perfect apart from the bushings/ferrules etc not matching up. Does such a conversion kit exist? I’ve been googling and some exist for guitars it seems but not for basses. I don’t even know what they’d be called to search for them. Anyone else overcome this same problem? Cheers

Same. I actually took a group shot of my pedals earlier this year for posterity but it’s not seen the light of day yet. A lot have since been sold but I wanted to catch it at before I started the big sales.

It’s an overwater bass I believe. I’m sure someone on here knows the model.

And the real answer is - 10am. But we'll be there from 8.30 and anyone coming early to help with set-up gets something for breakfast and lots of brownie points (redeemable in Heaven).

It’s a solid idea, and I have plenty of materials I could take. But I’m trying for an instrument here.

I don't know to be fair. I'm running VERY clean. I literally have no idea what sounds good in the mix. I just set what sounds good to me, so I'm probably still in the "home" tone zone, not "pro" tone.

Do you want to start a new thread with your list? Would be cool to see how much overlap there is between people, especially those who have massive collections. I'm happy to provide my list as well.

Hey Guys! I recently had the privilege to meet the maker and buy one from Chris himself! I've never really been into fuzz pedals until now and im still figuring it out as it does so many things. Nonetheless ive been having lots of fun with it and its definitely going on my board alongside the CMC Proto Type. These 2 together are a match made in heaven! Hello there from Germany! Can someone please tell me something about this bass? It was built by Chris May, who owned a music store on Denmark Street in London. It was built in the early 80s. Solid woods, Schaller hardware, overwater pickup, 24 frets, Thunderbird headstock. What series is it? thank you

Take a notation-for-bass book, and a treatise on chord tones and harmony instead, maybe..?

Check out Jorge Roeder. His solo album El Suelo Mio is lovely. Also check out Kham Meslien. He loops his bass and plays melody on top, but has an amazing weight and tone.
