Shabbs Posted November 5, 2012 Share Posted November 5, 2012 (edited) Evening gents, just recently joined and laughed when flat Eric mentioned another heavy bass, the Ibanez Studio which i foolishly sold many years ago but thankfully held onto my T40. It's natural with maple neck, early one I think need to check the serial, but an amzing bass all round, I'll post some pics when I get the chance. The 8M serials and generally accepted as some of the earliest T's, altough there were others slightly before. I will come back with more details on the 8M. This has the very early "Line around the truss rod cover". This was only run out on a limited number and then changed to the way all the remainder are. It has the early case but not the first, they were more traditional looking. I have a case like this but the interior is in Blue! never seen another one. . . . Yet! According to the blurb, this was the Demo bass that the store bought in 1978, and sold basses on after a trial on this one. All as per ex-factory. The only thing missing is the film cover, which showed how the controls work. Not many of these around!! Nice bit of history. Cheers. Lots of mistakes, but a chance to hear the T40 through the practice room's Ampeg 450 (solid state) and 8x10. I normally set it up with both pickups on and in pahse, neck pickup fully open (humbucking, 10 on the dial), and the bridge pickup at 7 (humbucking but brighter). Strings are picatos roundwounds. razze06 Posted November 14, 2012 Share Posted November 14, 2012 (edited) My T40 has a different writing on the headstock, looks like a transition period I don't have the serial number on me just now, I seem to recall it was dated to late 1979/early 1980. Only some of the patents had been granted at the time, it seems.
