Hiya. My 2cents. Attached is a pic of my '64P when i bought it. It has since been restored to 3-colour Sunburst and refretted. All was original except for the paint job, so it should give you an idea of the covers. If need be I can get some better shots when I get home tonight if this doesn't answer your question. After reading this article, I've decided in favour of the Gotoh 201 for my '71 Jazz Bass instead of a Badass II. Would I still be able to install the bridge cover over the Gotoh 201? Mention has been made that it won't work with a Badass installed. This isn't a deciding factor, just wondering since I'm busy ordering the parts needed to complete the project.

I have recently picked up a 1971 Fender Jazz bass that happened across my path as a box of parts. The restoration is all but complete, except for the pickup covers that are in a terrible state and a tortoise shell pickguard that looks like it didn't make it across the road. Some pickup covers in the Fender catalogue are sold as vintage and I assume they are for the 1973 upwards, when the pickup moved closer to the bridge? is there a difference in size in the covers? Also, I'm after an 11-hole, 3-ply tortoise shell and there seems to be a few options from Fender themselves. Some are sold as '62 reissues with the recess for the truss rod, some claiming to be nitrocellulose. I'd rather avoid the nitrocellulose plates since they had a tendency to release a corrosive gas over years, shrink and turn brittle and they were replaced with vinyl from 1965 onwards. Does anyone know of the correct part numbers or simply how I can go about ordering the right ones? The Fender importers that I've spoken to were friendly and eager to help, but looked at me with the eyes of a fish long dead when I asked them these questions. I'm not based in the U.K. anymore, so I'll be ordering stateside. I'm just hoping to avoid the pitfalls of ill-fitting parts by consulting with the esteemed anoraks on this forum.

Hi there folks. We had some friends with lights and video cameras over at our rehearsal studio a few weeks ago and [url="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=skUys0oN1rA&feature=g-upl"]this[/url] is what they got. Our practise room is also a live venue, so we tracked audio through the desk with our engineer and went backstage to do video afterwards.

I've spent an extra: • £55 for an extra set of pickups (in perfect shape with) with perfectly intact pickup rings, pots and switches • £15 for the missing tone knob • £17 for an un-cracked original pickguard All in all, I now have a solid, versatile touring bass for under £200 (rubbing hands, grinning self-contently). Oh and of course, I hope there will be that feeling of accomplishment in a month or two when I've completely disassembled and fixed it up myself. While waiting for my parts to arrive, I've started stripping and polishing up all the bits that I can. Expect frantic PM's as soon as the real work starts, FlatEric. *For the life of me, I don't know why the pics are turned sideways when uploaded.*

Hello all. I've also recently become part of the club with a 1980, natural, maple boarded toaster. Like many mine has seen a bit of abuse over the years and had a bit of back alley open-heart surgery performed by drunken quacks. Mine's phase switch sits below the bridge (thus swopped with the pickup selector) and the pick up rings are busted, like so many others and the pickups are shedding a bit of skin on the vinyl. I've managed to score original rings and pickups in great condition, as well as switches for little more than what replacement rings would on Ebay. A replacement knob set me back $25 and that's also roughly what I payed for an original, uncracked pickguard with the white indicator dots. Now, before I head on over to the T-40 Forum and speak to strangers , I thought I'd post my questions here first. I've seen two types of switches for these basses of this vintage, the flat ones and the baseball bat types. I've also seen them mixed up on the same bass. Which are the correct ones for the 1980 basses, and is there a source that has all the subtle changes mapped out for easy identification? I have a feeling this won't be the last T-40 in my collection. Also, mine's phase switch only works when the individual pickups are selected, leading me to believe that the last alcoholic surgeon that's worked on her is facing a malpractice suit. Thanks so much for all the info here already. I'm already keeping my ear to the ground for blade. Apparently this was done by the inventor, Chip Todd himself. Tastefully done, although I wouldn't do it to mine. I like 'em heavy.
