I very rarely use any compression at all,but I have had a few pedals. I had the Boss Limiter/Enhancer for
about a fortnight, and didn't really get on with it. I've got an Aphex Punch Factory which is nice and really
subtle, although I recently replaced it with the Emma Electronics TransMORGrifier which I prefer.
Like I said,I don't really bother with compression as a general rule, but when I do my favourite one is the
Emma.

I've got a Trace Elliot AH250SMX head, which has dual compression; I generally use a bit of the Low comp, and none of the High.
As a standalone pedal, I have a Nobels CO-2 - budget but works really well for me.

The best of the current pedal compressors that I've tried is the TC Electronics Nova Dynamics. Extremely versatile and sounds very good and totally silent. It's actually a dual compressor or as I use it, comp/noise gate.

If all the knobs frighten you, then a very close second place is the EBS Multicomp.

+1 on both of these, in that order too! I have both and are my two favourite compressors and I have owned a few!

I use a EBS Multicomp in the dual band mode. I have the internal trim pots set to a point it compresses/limits the highs a little more than the lows. I like it and use it always on because it's not much of a compressor but more like a limiter. It doesn't affect my playing dynamics, if i want to play lightly on the string it won't turn my volume up and if i stroke the chord with more power it lets that note come out. It acts in the frequence of the sound instead of on the volume of it like the vast majority of cheap pedals on the market.

Aguilar recently launched the TLC compressor, i think it may be even better than the EBS, from what i've "heard" n the net, but haven't tried it yet!

Another EBS vote here, even I can use it. A used Boss or it's Behringer clone may be cheap way to see if compression is your thing & tend to resell well.

EBS as well. If I use Compression my fav is thankfully built into my EBS Fafner amp head… amazing onboard compressor. But in pedal format I find the EBS Multicomp to b very close to what my amp has. Great pedal if you play and slap/pic based stuff!

I nearly always use one of those (& I also bought a one spare I've not had to use). Cheap as chips and worth every penny. Its very transparent and evens out my levels to make my playing more audible at a lower volume if that makes sense. I've tired loads of compressors and it turned out that all along I was looking for a limiter.

I hear you totally, got one on its way in the post of a forum member, Ive had one in the past and sold it to move on to bigger and better, its turned out to be a backward-sidewards-move thats gone full circle so back to the BOSS it is .......

+1 on that, I've just acquired one and it's studio quality gear, very well thought out controls and you can see exactly what's happening to your signal
