Even though it wasn't as fancy as some other Kawai basses I've seen, I thought that £90 including delivery must be a bargain.

Anyone around here buy it?

Except this isn't made in Japan at all, it's a later (probably Chinese) copy. Be careful out there.

I've got to admit I'm not that up on Bass Collections at all and might have been fooled by that. From the big thread on SGC Nanyo I remember that the serials were supposed to be tucked away in the control cavity and all the model names began SB3**, but the fact that SGC is plastered over the pickups would have had me convinced.

So how can you tell it's a copy?

Mine has 'Made in Japan' written on the cavity cover just underneath where it says 'Produced by SGC Nanyo'. I guess that is the main clue - despite that sounding facetious it isn't meant to be

Well, give the man James at Bristol Guitars his due : I sent him a message and he's amended the listing to remove the comments about it being Japanese.

Besides the missing Made in Japan on the electrics cover and the model number, the serial number is wrong (it starts 00, SGC Nanyo the first two digits were the year of manufacture and they stopped in 1996). The other thing that struck me as odd was the electrics: all the pots and all the electronics are fitted to a single circuit board. All the SGCs I've ever seen had individual pots with bits of circuit board attached to them, and connected up with some wiring (and some fairly dodgy soldering).

Ahh, now I remember Jon's first law of JapCrap: it has Made in Japan written on it!

Still, I didn't realise that the newer creations were going out under the SGC Nanyo brand. I knew there was some kind of dispute over the Nanyo name, but thought that the new ones were just using the Bass Collection name with no other connection. Good to know so thanks for the heads up.

70s. It's had a Strat pickup bunged in it & someone's stuck a bit of plastic on the top to cover the 6 pole pieces. Quality.

It's only because a lot of older MIJ Ps & Js had little Telecaster-type single-coil pups hidden under their ashtrays - this one obviously did originally, & it's a bit tricky to find a straight replacement if they die!

Afternoon JapCrap Crew . Ive been after a Bison bridge cover for my Burns bass for a while. Whilst i dont expect an original one i was wondering if any of you guys have this particular shape and style knockin round in your 'bits box'?

Nothing like that in my parts drawer, but similar things do pop up on Ebay, in fact quite a few on the 60s-era JapCrap guitars had semicircular bridge covers, dunno if they'd fit a bass though.

That bridge cover looks close enough really. The only thing putting me off is how its all enclosed with slots for the strings. Id be worried about the strings hitting the sides of the slots (if that makes sence). My bison is one of the early 90's reissues so dosent need to be an absolute copy of the original covers. I have tried burns, not the best customer service ive had. Bascially replied ''dont have them anymore, if we did it wouldnt fit a re-issue. Bye'' Ill keep checking the bay and see what comes up.
