Sadly yes it was!
Surely one ply is good, it's when it's more than one ply that it's bad...

Does this constitute bad plywood?

This might polarise opinion among non-fans of playable furniture... :)

Love it! Never seen a 2 part bridge like that either. What is it? The knobs look Aria Pro II-ish

i found an old jap 6 string in a skip and when moving house offered it to jon, would have taken it round and everything in the brief chance of seeing the legendary basement.... but he had too much stuff to want it!
it's still in my old house if someone want me to fish it out, old old kay thing with a headstock break
Not mine unfortunately - I think it's a custom job, I just did a Google image search for "hippie sandwich bass"! Have to say I've always loved this sort of plywood!
Found it. It is indeed a custom, using a Warmoth neck. Pictorial history of it being built is here.

I'm guessing that the claim to be MIJ is incorrect, and that this is Korean. Correct?
Yep - I had one, ply body, fairly dodgy fretwork, plastic-button tuners - very basic cheapo J copy. The suggestion that these are "better than a Columbus or Squier" is really quite laughable.

I might be wrong (I usually am in this thread :)) but if this is the .... ahem... bass I think it is, there should be a chunk missing from rear of the neck pocket.
